Valenti gives Michigan credit for Austin White
Listening to Valenti and Foster this afternoon...
Mike Valenti spoke for a few minutes on Austin White, commending Michigan for getting a commitment from him. He even spoke of his ability, sounding far more optimistic than even Brian's review of White.
He also went on to say that Rich Rod is a great coach AND Charlie Weiss is a horrible coach.
I am a shocked that I am admitting this, but I feel Valenti has earned some respect today...
But careful making those jokes, there are a lot of MGoSlappies that take Brian's word as gospel. Oh, I see you've met some of them.
Valenti is the best sports radio personality in Detroit...then this doesn't say much for Detroit sports talk radio.
Doug Karsch is the man!
Remember what Sparky Anderson said about sports talk radio when it started in Detroit? "It's the same nine guys listening and calling in."
I like Karsch too. My opinions better align with Karsch than Valenti, but I think Valenti is the better radio host.
To those who said Stoney and Wojo were better than Valenti and Foster - I completely agree. But with WDFN only retaining Matt Shepard for the morning drive show, it's slim pickens.
Someone also mentioned the Chris Meyers show on WDFN... it is terrible in my opinion. There are way too many cooks in that kitchen... they all interrupt each other and yell over each other. Bad radio.
Valenti is actually a fan, which I can appreciate. He can be sort of a dickball and his hatred for Michigan goes a little too far sometimes.
Foster, on the other hand, is so embarrassingly incompetent at his job you just have to laugh off anything he says. Try listening to that show for 10 minutes without Valenti. Your ears will get AIDS.
I don't care for Valenti, but he definitely holds the show together.
I actually LIKE the fact that he is a Spartan slappy. I just don't care for his style. Scott Anderson is also an admitted Sparty slappy, but his style is much less "in your face", which I can appreciate more.
Very true,
Valenti's slappiness is what makes people want to listen to him. Unike Karsch, who also went to MSU yet is neutral on his allegiance, Valenti is definitely not neutral. This can kinda be compared to reading a newspaper versus reading a blog. Sometimes I like to hear the one-sided story...
Karsch went to MSU? I didn't know that, if it's true.
I like Valenti's show quite a bit. Yes, he's totally abrasive, but that's part of the appeal -- he's entertaining, and generates more interesting conversation than say, Pat Caputo (zzzzz). He's a slappy, but he doesn't deny it.
IS SUCH A DOWNER. The guy hates everyone 95% of the time and thinks every trade ever made is the BEST/WORST thing in the world but when it ends up the opposite way he claims HE WAS RIGHT. Valenti has an EGO as big as his bald head too. I know it's tough for him to keep people on the line who think Rick Porcello is next years All Star starter, but he could be less of a dick to people who talk about MICH sports. When he does speak about MICH in a good way it sounds like he has a butt plug up his ass.
Times in which I enjoy Valent:
1. When he picks NCAA/NFL game winners for the weekend against the spread.
2. When MSU loses a game.
3. When he is on vacation.
BOOM MICH'D!
that Valenti won't admit when he is wrong, I present to you: Edwin Jackson.
That's what I'm talking about. He thought Iverson was the cats pajama's coming into the Pistons, then changed his view to "I Said it was a good idea to clear cap space!"
only time I will turn on 97.1 is after msu loses a game.
