Valdez Showers has more confidence than you.

Sam Webb discusses potential recruit Valdez Showers in the News today. It looks like we will offer the RB/DB very soon, As you can see from this quote, while Showers is quite talented, he will need to work on his confidence before becoming ready to play college football: "On the offensive side of the ball I'm electrifying," he said. "I've got good open-field speed and can't be touched. On the defensive side, I'm lockdown." http://www.detnews.com/article/20100408/OPINION03/4080393/1004/sports/R…

This is a pretty good class of in-state talent this year. However, I don't think we should fill up on in-state kids. With Zettel and Beyer likely commits - plus Hollowell and Conway - offering and taking commitments from too many other in-state guys might limit the rest of our class. There are still guys like Showers, Beavers, Raymon Taylor, Hosley, Rawls, Hayes, etc. out there, too. I'm not making an argument that we have to get out-of-state guys to be successful, just that the talent level in Michigan only goes so deep. With a small class and a [hopefully] good season coming up, I think we should be able to get some nationally renowned recruits.

This is probably the first year RR and Company can take their time and be a little more picky on the early offers. If I recall we are only likely to go about 18 on this class. EDIT: This was supposed to be in response to Magnus below.

When the season goes well and RR job is more secure Michigan should be able to pull in the higher rated players. But if the coaches really love this kid, a la Conway, then trust their judgment by offering this kid a scholarship.

We've already offered 13 RBs/Slot Receivers (thank you Magnus). I think we should wait out on some that seem high on us (Malcolm Crockett, Hart I guess, Hayes, Oliver) before the coaches start throwing out more offers

I actually used these lines when I proposed to Wife of Moe: "On the offensive side of the ball I'm electrifying," "I've got good open-field speed and can't be touched. On the defensive side, I'm lockdown." They worked.

You left out the last part of the quote.
"On the offensive side of the ball I'm electrifying," he said. "I've got good open-field speed and can't be touched. On the defensive side, I'm lockdown. And my pad level is adequate too."

Wonder where Showers will play. We have 2 cornerbacks committed and he's kind of a safety/corner tweener. Offensively, I don't think he'll play outside WR, and there are a lot of other slot prospects were in on. But I haven't watched his film yet so we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

I know he wants to play RB but I see him as a CB. He is not a receiver. He has good size for a corner and is a legit 4.4 guy. I was with him at practice last week and if UM offers he will take it. He does have a lot of confidence, but he is a great kid and I hope he gets an offer.
