I'm putting the over/under for number of times I watch this game this week at 5. I've already watched two replays.
September 8th, 2013 at 8:18 PM ^
The crowd really sounds incredible on TV. I can only imagine what it must have sounded like in person.
September 8th, 2013 at 8:38 PM ^
Granted, we were yelling so loud that the lady in front of us left after the first quarter. I felt bad, but, like, if I'm there, I'm supposed to yell loud, right?
September 8th, 2013 at 8:51 PM ^
The blue hair removal revolution has been going well the last few years, well done on keeping it going.
September 8th, 2013 at 9:04 PM ^
you did your job. We need more loud individuals like you.
September 9th, 2013 at 7:28 AM ^
For the record, I stood, screamed and clapped the entire game. Had ND fans right in front of me. I let them have a full dose of screaming throughout the game.
September 9th, 2013 at 11:23 AM ^
If you don't want to hear people yelling, I have no idea why you would go to a major college football game. At least bring earplugs or something.
September 8th, 2013 at 8:38 PM ^
MUCH louder in person than tv suggests
September 8th, 2013 at 9:52 PM ^
and the sound from the replays and the highlights didn't compare to the roar that happened live when Roundtree caught that pass. Sometimes you can hear the sound change when the ref turns on his mic and they try to hear him (like after Roundtree's catch) and the sound overwhelms everything
September 8th, 2013 at 11:29 PM ^
I was there for that too and thought the same thing watching it later. This year, it was when ND was going for it on fourth down. That was as loud as I've heard the place outside of the roundtree catch in UTL 1, and you can hardly tell on tv.

When will we know the kickoff time and tv coverage for Uconn?
September 8th, 2013 at 8:25 PM ^
Either tomorrow or next Sunday. The networks pick start time 6 or 12 days prior.
September 8th, 2013 at 8:29 PM ^
Would think the UConn game would be a noon kickoff on like ESPN2 but who knows.
September 8th, 2013 at 8:38 PM ^
On what other games there are. M going to a smaller program like uconn on the road is kind of a novelty. If the pickings are slim that day nationally I could see it being a regional abc 3:30 game. Especially considering than M may be a top 10 team at the time.
September 8th, 2013 at 8:31 PM ^
Watch ND's linebackers when you watch the replay. They're nuts.
September 8th, 2013 at 8:34 PM ^
They were super aggressive all game.
September 8th, 2013 at 8:40 PM ^
That's what I mean, nuts as in crazy, not nuts as in awesome. Really, really irresponsible.
September 8th, 2013 at 8:45 PM ^
It's not a new phenomenon. The difference is that this year, we actually made them pay with Gallon. They didn't back off and got torched repeatedly through the air.
Yet another reason why I'm not that concerned about our running game. Fitz pretty much maximized his possible yards against ND.
September 8th, 2013 at 8:56 PM ^
That and the zone read. That's what UM did in 2011 against the hyper aggressive ND LBs in the second half. Denard ripping those huge all came from the LBs crashing hard in the RBs.
September 8th, 2013 at 9:32 PM ^
That was my thought as welll re: Diaco. And yeah, I have the same thoughts about the running game. Would like to get a back over 100 next week though.
September 8th, 2013 at 8:46 PM ^
Watching this game again is like falling back asleep and having a favorite dream start again . . .
September 9th, 2013 at 4:04 PM ^
Sticky.
September 8th, 2013 at 8:49 PM ^
Starting to witness the hundred holding calls against Michigan while Beyer and Clark have their shoulder pads popping out every other play. The recent one against Miller was particularly egregious.
September 8th, 2013 at 8:57 PM ^
Didn't realize Gallon had such a huge game. Gardners end zone INT was really the only glaring mistake by the offense I think.
September 8th, 2013 at 8:58 PM ^
Asking this here is far better than starting another thread:
The Notre Dame DL really did not allow us to open up a strong running game, short of getting to the edges from time to time. The Notre Dame OL did not allow us to get to the QB much at all.
Is this the best set of line play that we're going to face all season? Have we seen the worst of it until late November?
September 8th, 2013 at 9:46 PM ^
ND stacked the box and blitzed all night. It wasn't so much their line as it was their scheme. Tuitt & Shembo combined for a couple tackles, no TFLs, no sacks (and one gimme INT). Nix had a couple tackles and one TFL. What worried me was the lack of a field stretcher on the outside. We should have been able to hurt them much more on the sidelines with the way they were stacking the box. That may be where we miss Darboh and his (alleged) Hemingway-type skills. Some shots down the sidelines or back shoulder jump balls would have been nice. I was also disappointed with Funchess. He should have been able to get behind those blitzing LB's for some easy catches. I actually thought that Butt looked like the better option in that particular game. He looked like the real deal in person at the stadium. He made a great play on the ball on that endzone fade. Unfortunately it was underthrown by about 6 inches. In the end, our offense scored 41 on ND while running a very low-risk scheme. There are very few QBs I'd swap for 98. Bridgewater might be the only one that I would consider. The combination of size, speed, and athleticism makes Gardner deadly.
September 8th, 2013 at 10:03 PM ^
Actually I thought almost all the throws to Butt and Funchess were underthrown. At least to Funchess, those passes in the endzone should be about 10 feet in the air but they were hitting him chest high and the DBs were batting them down pretty easily. I'm confident that will improve. Chesson was open deep on that first touchdown to Gallon as well, so I'm wondering how many other times he got open down the sideline. He'll start catching some as Gardner tries to spread the ball around more the next few weeks against lesser competition and hopefully he'll be more comfortable going to Chesson by the end of the season. Can't get over how good we looked yesterday though for it being the second game of the season.
September 8th, 2013 at 11:04 PM ^
Actually, I read that Tuitt had no solo tackles at all. His only real contribution stat-wise was the diving INT-TD.
I read this in a section that was praising the play of Taylor Lewan. They basically said that this is the 2nd top-5 defensive draft pick that Lewan has owned.

is anyone else as worried about Gallon's hamstrimg as I am? He looked very hobled on that last drive (I just watched the interception/pass interfenence call and he was favoring it badly). Hoke said it was sometuing he would have to continue to work through. it seems like something that could linger the whole season and really damage his effectiveness. I hope I'm really really wrong.
September 8th, 2013 at 9:18 PM ^
He can rest the next two weeks.

September 8th, 2013 at 10:11 PM ^
was wondering that too. she wasnt moving at all after that hit
September 9th, 2013 at 12:24 AM ^
Pretty sure I know what you're talking about, since I was horrified watching that collision from my seat in the south end zone. I wasn't ready for the game to go on, although everybody else seemed to be. It looked awful, but when the net was righted, she stood right up and I saw her wave someone off in a clear "I'm fine" gesture — must've just been tangled if she wasn't moving at first. I was amazed but delighted to see it; maybe the net frame isn't as heavy as the Lacrosse goal it looks like.
