USC-OSU thoughts

Submitted by spartyNO on

I hate OSU.  A lot.  But I wanted them to keep this game close, because the Big Ten needed it.  This is obviously embarassing for them, but it would just be absolutely awful if Ohio State were to roll through the Big Ten again this year untouched.  Wisconsin and Penn State need to step up and beat OSU if the B10 wants to avoid becoming an even bigger joke nationally.  Hopefully in a year or two Michigan will be able to carry the torch as well.  Ohio State had their chance, twice, and they blew it.  Time for new blood.

I don't care what the Big Ten needs.  MICHIGAN does not need a superstrong OSU playing for national titles every year.  I want them to come down from their perch.

But the perception is not that there is a "superstrong OSU playing for national titles every year" but that an average to good OSU team is unjustly playing for national titles because they come from a lousy conference.  They just look superstrong because their competition is pitiful.

I want them to come down from their perch  I would rather see Michigan step up to their perch.

OSU, Purdue and other teams continually losing to teams from BCS conferences is not good for the Big Ten and thus Michigan.

I'm seriously wondering about Tressel's job security right now.  Three national embarassments in a row, and this is the worst one yet.  And what's worse is that they're playing them again next year, with 9 starters leaving, which equals epic fail.

sparty -- Tress is pretty safe in Columbus.  He has owned us, has three consecutive B10 titles, and has an NC to his credit.  He's safe.  Now if they WANT to bring Cooper back, I'll chip in to pay off Tress' buyout.

Sparty -- I can't claim to understand the thoughts of the buckeye faithful, but if they think they are going to do much better, I'll be shocked.   But it is possible.  They ran off Bruce who was a pretty decent coach and  had a reasonable record against us to bring in Cooper.

is it so much that osu cant hang with the big guys or is usc just that much freaking better? the "senator" as they call him is safe. cant stand the guy but hes got our number and has a NC under his belt along with two other BCS bowl wins. i think his job will be in jeopardy once he starts losing to us again (hopefully sooner than later)

Scary thought. If OSU can't hang with the big boys and is a laughingstock nationally, then what the fuck do you think that makes us? Sadly, we have become irrelevant in the eyes of the nation the last few years. I'll take going to the national title game 3 times in the last 6 years and beating OSU every year over what we've done during that same time span.

I wouldn't say we were irrelevant in the past few years....just in 06' if Urban Meyer wasn't such a whiney fuck bag and basically threatened the BCS, we would of rematched OSU in the NatChamp game. That didn't work out and OSU lost and we lost to USC and then OSU fucked the Big10 again w/the LSU game.

We beat the Gaytors under the Tebow era in Florida. Last year did blow, but we couldn't of ended it any better w/a win against "superman" and his gaytors. The media loves to hate the Big10 (especially Mark May's bitch ass) and down here in SEC land they hate us everyday on local radio. The Big10 is down no doubt, but Michigan holds their own against the SEC.....

Well,

You conveniently left out the fact that we were a 4 loss team last year. Beating Florida was nice, but, didn't really mean a whole helluva lot to anybody except we the UM fans. We've also been donkey punched not once, but, twice in front of the nation by USC in the Rose Bowl over the last 6 years and pretty much haven't come close to competing for a national title. 2006 looked promising until we played legitimate competition in OSU and USC. I won't even bother to comment on your rant about Meyer and Florida being chosen over us to play OSU in the BCS title game other than to say that if you really believe that we deserved to be in that game over Florida, than you're delusional. Make no mistake about it, if we had beaten OSU and had played Florida in that title game, we would've been run off the field just like OSU was. The Flordia team that we beat in the Cap. One Bowl was NOT the same team that pounded OSU.

Yep.  I was on a big high after the Florida game, but when I calmed down I realized  that it still didn't make up for the fact that last year was the worst year in Michigan history.  The two worst losses in Michigan history in the first two weeks of the season and another loss to Ohio State.  And anyone who actually thinks we should have played OSU again in '06, after getting pasted by USC (again), is beyond help.

I still for the life of me can not understand how that '06 defense got raped so badly with all the sheer talent they had.  Harris, Burgess, Woodley, Branch, Hall.  Pathetic.

Florida could of easily been in the NatChamp game last year. They lost on a couple of end of the game plays that put them in the capital one bowl...they almost beat LSU who smoked OSU....and you dont know what might of happened if Michigan played Florida in 06'....it's a different match up altogether....the team florida put out on the field vs. Michigan had alot more weapons than the team they played ohio state with...im not saying we win the game, im saying noone knows....i mean shit, florida was supposed to blow us out in the capital one bowl...

all i can hope for is improvements and a win over OSU this year would give us something to cheer about offseason....

and yeah USC ran circles around us in the rose bowl...it seemed like we were unstoppable until beanie wells ran it down our throats and then we lost to USC...what a dissapointment....and now troy smith holds clipboards in balitmore

Make no mistake- I want OSU to lose every game - every year.  Shame on all of you whiners- "we want OSU to win so the Big Ten looks good".  NO NO NO  Other big ten teams can win but not OSU- ever

You know I had a smile on my face tonight.  F the bucks.  I don't give a crap if they look like shit out there or if people think the B10 sucks.  I'm thinking W in Columbus in November.  I'm getting more confident in that every week.  The University of Ohio University of Ohio State looks more and more shell shocked each week.  Wait until Wisconsin pounds the every loving hell out of them.  I think they'll be limping by November.  Hell yes!

sparty-- tressel's job is safe. he is revered in Ohio. as a mich fan who hate (HATES) tOSU, i think he is in the same class as Woody in that his fan base looks at him like a god. he has been getting some ridiculous recruiting classes and won an NC already and has challenged for others. but i agree with others, i wouldn't mind if the buckeye faithful turned their backs on him and fired his ass. but i highly doubt that will happen even in the next 5 years. you can count on him being there for the entire time Pryor is in c'bus.

oh, and thoughts on USC-OSU. it was predictable that USC won but what I was so impressed with was just how dominant USC was. i know that seems obvious but USC really never let up. right after their offense would drive down for a score, you would think the defense would let up a bit knowing the game is getting further and further out of tOSU's hands. but no, i was actually more impressed with USC's defense in that they were relentless and completely ruthless. i'd be surprised if another team won the BCS NC than them.

Cushing and Malaugawagawhatever are insane.  I remember watching them blow up Henne in the Rose Bowl a few years ago.  I just don't understand how that team is so good year in year out.

the way it looks michigan will be facing TP under centre . That Boeckeckemann dude really sucks. Not just because of the SC linebackers either. Watching him struggle against Y state was laughable

i am SUPER HAPPY OSU was embarrassed last night but i am furious on how overrated Ohio State is. ESPN always talks about how great they are every single year and i am just sick of it. ESPN is blind! They watch OSU get blown out by teams in the NC game and massacred by teams out of the conference. I just wish for once someone on ESPN would say "Ohio State really isn't very good" or something along those lines.

Im glad they got owned too....i have to say I was pulling for them against Florida, because I hate florida more than OSU. But really, Tressell is fine. He's a good coach, they couldn't find anyone any better to plug in for instant results anyway. As much as I hate OSU, Tressell doesn't bother me like an Urban Meyer or Charlie Weis.

I did however browse some OSU threads and people are calling for his head....typical fans....impatient and zero tolerance for losing....just like UM fans calling for Carr's head after losing to OSU and numerous bowl games....the only thing that cures that is a win the next week and all is well for 7 days.

Jay, aside from 1997, when was the last time in the last 55 years we competed for a national title? This isn't a recent devlopment.

That's what I don't understand about the Lloyd-haters, they act like his late-career mediocrity robbed Michigan of their status as perrenial National Contenders. When were we EVER perrenial national contenders? Michigan has played for a Championship ONCE since the Fourties.
