USA vs Mexico soccer

Submitted by goblue85 on

There's a friendly match between USA and Mexico tonight at Mexico 8pm espn2.  The US all time is winless in Mexico.  I say its time for a change and a win tonight.   No dempsey or bradley tonight but will have donovan.   More younger guys for Klinesman squad tonight.   GO USA!

I'm honestly hoping that Klinsman goes with an entirely youthful lineup, even leaving out Donovan. I want to see guys like Corona, as well as Fabian Johnson and Zusi.  This game seems like its a changing of the guard, almost, for the older guys to make way for the young guns.  Hopefully Shea plays well, he seems to only really show up for half of the games he plays. Looking forward to this match, though I don't have much faith in the ability for us to win tonight.  Mexico is going to play a lot of first teamers, while we simply aren't.  Here's hoping we can keep it close.

No Chris Pontius, but plenty of Wondo.. I want a win in Estadio Azteca almost as bad as i want one at Jerryland. Hell of a way to keep my mind off the 1st of Sept.

has never done anything internationally. He has no breakaway speed, a meh shot, and the only thing he really possesses is an aptitude for putting the ball in the back of the net against equal competition. I'd rather see Gomez or Boyd up top. Boyd is the big imposing presence in the middle needed for the wide system we play. The thing is though, we need to control the ball and pick the right pass or we'll get burned with how inept our defense has been. Plainly said we have a slim chance to win today and have to hope for plenty of mistakes on the other side.

Not a huge fan of Wondo either. Not just being agreeable, he just leaves a lot more to be desired. However, I am a fan of Pontius. That's why I was so surprised to see him left off the roster, especially after his recent work-outs and stand-out play.. I guess Klinsmann likes something about Donovan and Shea.. To me it's an awkward coupling. Id just like to see them backed up with some crisp, cosistent passes. Boyd is proven and I don't know why he's not around.. Such an explosive player. Still like many US soccer fans; I feel Clint Dempsey can do no wrong on the pitch.

I can't get over how insanely long/busy the season is for pro soccer players.  If Mexico makes any of its three overage Olympic players play in this, that's just being cruel.

I am more upset when Ricardo Clark is on the field than when Beckerman is.  I don't think Beckerman is any better than Clark, but he seems to know his own limitaitons better.

Ricardo Clark seems to think he can pass the ball THROUGH the legs of opposing attackers, which occasionally leads to goals that knock the US out of World Cup competitions....not that I'm bitter or anything.

Well it seems that the idiot who like to down vote soccer threads is back.  I accidentally upvoted the "viva mexico" post when I went to up vote every post in this thread.  Damnit.

It is worth it.  I can't really help you with the seating or anything, since I have never been to that stadium.

The good thing about Columbus is that it is a soocer-specific stadium so you wont see the football yeard lines or feel like the pitch is out of place.  If you want to sit with the "American Outlaws" or "Sam's Army" guys take a look at their websites.

Interesting line up.  I don't like it, too many D Mids in the fold.  That and Boyd should be out there starting in a 4-3-3.

USA has literally nothing to lose in this match, why not go for it all?

Hopefully the US team will execute Klinsmann's game plan and keep their heads in the game for 90 minutes. I expect them to lose given their track record in Mexico and the absence of so many first-choice starters, but I'll be disappointed if they panic, lose their cool, or mentally check out of the game at any point.

Well, no Joe Corona starting, but I'm excited to see Johnson and Williams both.  Hopefully we can get something going early on, try to combat the crowd.  GO USA!

50 year old place, all concrete... has some nice amenitites for the wealthy. The US fans sit in a steel cage and get spit on/stuff thrown at them.

Like OSU without US law and a really large amount of cultural hate. Also its 350 US fans v. 105K+whoever pays cash to squeeze in at the gate.

Back line was solid for the most part, being as makeshift as it is. Biggest problem at half? Finding a way to control possession for more than a minute at a time. Also need to close down the easy passing lanes in the defensive third. All in all a solid half for a side without a lot of the top players.
