Urban Meyer on the sidelines

Submitted by Carcajou on November 18th, 2018 at 10:50 PM

Urban Meyer's been rubbing his hair so often, you'd think he's auditioning for a shampoo or hair products ad. He doesn't like he's enjoying his immensely well-compensated dream job one bit.

(Perhaps better asked on Eleven Warriors or O-Zone, but don't really want to spend any time over there this week, but...) honestly, looks so miserable all the time on the sidelines, been wondering why doesn't he go orchestrate his evil empire from the press box on game days?
Serious question.

[It's possible that part of the reason it's bothering me is because he looks so pathetic recently, and I hate the idea of feeling sorry for Buckeye anything.]

He's going to feel really ill when we beat the shit out of them Saturday.  My guess is he steps down after the season.  Chicken shit always retreats once another team passes him.

Don’t forget his milk comment after the 2015 blowout in The Game. The man mocked Harbaugh in a less than classy manner.

I’m certainly not wishing health issues, but do not want our team, our fans, or even bloggers on this site to forget the golden pants, the constant reminder of how many days it’s been since Michigan won, or how their fans have acted over the past decade during this run. Especially, do not forget the 2015 score run up to create the biggest blowout in Harbaugh’s career.

It’s time. It’s coming.

Revenge tour final stop. All aboard!

I think it's an act. An excuse, just in case he loses and for his inevitable retirement. The fact that he looks like he hasn't had a good night's sleep in months not withstanding, his doubling over on the sidelines and rubbing his temples seems like attention seeking behavior.

I saw him pick his nose 3 times and scratch his ding dong like 5 times. That's not a good look when the cameras are on you many times during a game.

I saw at least 3 reactions on Saturday that were just not normal responses a human makes, they were the kind of responses a busted child makes when he knows he has to make it look good.

The guy is trash. That program, and it’s fans on 11 warriors, are the absolute worst. I hate making generalizations, but in this case, it is what it is.

Back to Urban. Been listening to the podcast Gladiator, about Aaron Hernandez. They talk to Urban, who requests it is not recorded and basically uses his “ I can’t remember” excuse. Just scum.

I'm in the medical profession, so will give him the benefit of the doubt regarding his health and wish him well.

This should, by no means, be construed as a vote of confidence regarding his character however!

That being said, make us proud down in Columbus this weekend and beat OSU!

GO BLUE!!!

I have no idea if he has legitimate health issues or not but I do know he is making a rather large effort making sure everyone knows he is miserable. As a caring person I hope Michigan helps him get the day off on Dec. 1.

If Meyer has any  issue, it's psychological.  His antics recently are akin to a defender who misses a tackle staying on the ground feining injury, because he thinks it will preserve a bit of his dignity.  The fact that a grown man, and a legend at that, feels the need to resort to this kind of thing under pressure shows his frailties.  It also shows what he considers true pressure: impending domination at the hands of his rivals, publicly visible underperformance, not a single other thing

But he sure as heck doesn't deserve any pity.  He is a shit human being, sociopath, megalomaniac, who is lucky as hell that he's an elite football coach.  If he wasn't, this "health" issue would have sprung up decades ago or he'd be living an already-collapsed life.

Has any head coach ever sat in the press box to coach? I don't think it's a serious option. I don't believe assistant coaches are allowed to call time outs or challenge calls.

I think Meyer is done at OSU. His health issue gives him the perfect out to step down. It also makes it hard for him to recruit if he stays. It hasn't bounced back since he was reinstated.

I don't know about the time out or challenge aspect (presumably someone else would be assigned in that case), but yes, head coaches have sat in the press box due to poor health or injury (Kill, Paterno), and at some levels, and seen sometims in lower divisions of college football.

It's certainly a lot easier to see things from up there than down on the sideline, understand the opponent's scheme, etc.  The only reason most coaches don't is for the same reason Brady Hoke didn't want to wear a head set - you can better gauge the mood and emotions of your players on the sideline, and try to motivate and make decisions accordingly, And Ohio State probably looked better their first three games (when Meyer was suspended) when he wasn't on the sideline, so there's that, as well.

He emotes far too much. Sideline shots are irritatingly too numerous.

But it would be glorious if most of the shots of him this Saturday resemble those of the last six weeks.

I might be in the minority among Michigan fans, but I would regret seeing Meyer scamper off after this season. I want him to hang around long enough to see Harbaugh and Michigan even their record against him.

He's undoubtedly a great coach, but I think he's beatable, and his "brand of football" is beatable. I also think his act wears thin over time.

The fact that Urban's offensive style is quite different from Harbaugh is a plus for Michigan - we are not going head to head after the same players in recruiting areas they hold an advantage (Ohio, western PA, etc.), as well as nationally at the moment.

Replace him now, they'll get a another premier coach and maintain the current superior recruiting advantage the Buckeyes have over the rest of the Big Ten, including Michigan.

Would rather see him preside over a gradual decline of Ohio State football and his own legacy.

I definitely want Harbaugh to form his own Revenge Tour against him but it can't be underestimated at how good of a recruiter Meyer is. Ohio already has a major platform and advantage of recruiting elite Ohio talent but Meyer is a big time national name.

I'd prefer he craps himself on national TV and runs away but honestly it doesn't matter. Coach Harbaugh and Don Brown are going to start defacing programs and opposing Michigan's will for years to come.

I don't really have an opinion on or care about Urban's health stuff, but if he is retiring after this season, that's just another reason we better win. No send off for Urban.

Honestly, I watched a good chunk of one quarter of yesterday's OSU game, which was more than I'd watched them all year, and I was shocked at how awful Urban looked. Seriously. This guy looks like death warmed over mixed with a well-seasoned catcher's mitt. If he wasn't such a shit I'd feel bad, but I'm not too far off.

Perhaps his health is legitimately weighing on him and it has zapped any enthusiasm he might have had, but I will say, if I had all the talent on my roster that he does and I still played THAT game against Maryland, I would probably be perturbed myself.

Indeed.  Lest we forget JH seemed to have "something off" with him most of 2017 and in light of our perception he still called a hell of a game against OSU, had the team ready and certainly he wanted that win bad.  I just don't see a coach on the other side of this rivalry getting into the BPONE somehow based on the Maryland game.  It might not be a long con but it would be foolish to think he is mailing it in this week.

Urban knows his legacy is forever tarnished & it's eating him up. I wouldn't doubt staff at OSU no longer speak with him. A BOT quit because of him. An asst coach also bailed before the season, because of the toxicity. Add in Bosa bailing ... it all adds up.
