Update Opponent Plausibility

Submitted by wile_e8 on
Time to update the plausibility of the opponent for the 2010 opener. From Angelique Chengelis: There is one change, however. The prevailing thought among the media was that the team would be among these four that have an open date next fall -- Virginia, Duke, Pitt and Oregon State. A Michigan official told me today those schools are not candidates and suggested it's very likely the team involved will be making changes to its already existing schedule to make room for Michigan. OK, so that means just about any team with an open date is possible now. And removes everyone from Brian's list this morning except UConn.

...make your wish list: (1) West Virginia (2) Hawaii - just for the return game. (3) LSU (4) Florida - first road game outside Florida since 1988. (5) Oklahoma

While WVU sounds nice and has all the story. For safety reasons, I have reservations about sending our boys down there. Seriously. 3,4, or 5 would be spectacular. edit: Maybe I don't understand how the open date works, but I was under the impression that in order to get any team of that magnitude you have to do a home and home.

Meh, finding pictures gives me something to do at work... you'll notice I also posted pictures of yellow robot wolves and maize wolf sneakers yesterday. If there were more womens' sports coverage here, maybe this habit wouldn't come across as ridiculously homosexual though.

haha so all of these "possible lists" really dont mean anything? this could be a good surprise since there are now about 343434 teams that we could possibly play.

If the opponent is willing to adjust their schedule, that could mean moving games around within this season or moving games to which they are commited to a different season. So, it could literally be anyone in the Big East, ACC, SEC, Big XII, or Pac 10. Bring on the list of 65+. I'm with UM Indy, no reason to even try to guess anymore, just wait and see.

For a night game at the big house :).....I would travel to Baton Rouge for this game, no doubt. I went to see LSU play GT for New Years, they bring a crowd and party like no other.

Don't forget about the WAC, they could technically be considered a BCS team right? I'm sure that's not the kinda loophole used to describe our opponent, but could happen. I just hope we don't play a team that could really beat us up. I know, no risk, no reward. The bright side is if we do lose that first game (which I really don't even want to think about), then we have all season to bust ass and make it back to a BCS or MNC bowl game. I just hated that feeling of losing to a PAC-10 school early in the season and having many of my hopes defeated so quickly. Hopefully we don't go all the way west, we haven't done well there recently, although we do have this relatively new coach.
