UPDATE: Found and safe. Texas A&M Reporter for Rivals Goes Missing, Possibly Abducted

Submitted by FauxMo on

Obviously OT, but related to college football... a female reporter for Rivals covering Texas A&M was on her way back from a football camp when she texted her roommate that someone was following her. Her car had been broken into some time prior as well, making her nervous. Her mother received this cryptic and horrifying text from her phone: "hello the owner of this phone Courtney. I am buying an iPad."

I hope she's found safe. This is weird and scary stalker stuff, it sounds like...

I know it didn't really stick around but it put the fear of drugs, God and crazy people in me. I still watch my back when I'm out alone at night and I'm a grown ass man now. Cold shoulder and all that.

I know cases like these are sadly not isolated incidents yet you still feel sick when you hear this still happens.

Local CBS affiliate KHOU reported that Roland's Jeep Cherokee was found in a parking lot early Monday morning with her phone inside. Roland's iPad, computer and credit cards were also located, according to the report.

usually these types of situations don't end well if the individual isn't found within the first couple days.  Glad this was of the positive variety

I also feel that social media is exposing people to a much wider potential group of psychos, and therefore exposing them to greater risks.

An acquaintance of mine with a dark, dark history is a Twitter follow of mine (mainly to keep tabs on his psycho ass).  Like most socially inept males, he uses Twitter to try and interact with celebrities directly.  Local and regional newswomen are his favorite, and they often interact repeatedly with men whom they should probably not do so.

In one such interaction, a local Detroit media figure tweeted a view from her apartment that, should one be so inclined, could be used to determine the location of said apartment.  I know this because my acquaintance commented "nice view" or some such.  Not smart on her part at all.  I would ask these celebrities one question:  is the promotion of your personal "brand" really worth the risk you take in conducting your public life in such a way that thousands of strangers feel that they are intimately acquainted with you?  What payback do you receive that compensates from such a risk?

If I were a celebrity, particularly a female,  I would definitely take a more hands off approach to social media.  maybe, at a minimum, using it to promote your latest projects.

Another behavioral abnormality being blamed on ‘medication change’or ‘reaction’? Nonetheless, glad she is safe.
