Update on 5-Star Safety Daxton Hill - Lukewarm Crystal Ball for Michigan

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on

An 247 Oklahoma Insider (Brandon Drumm) just CB'ed Daxton Hill to the good guys (h/t @TWLTanner and Garrett Fishaw).

I checked the OU message boards and, while this is good news, this should NOT be taken as a strong indication of Hill's ultimate decision. Instead, Brandon said (in so many words) that OU is out and Michigan is an educated guess.

Wanted to post this before somebody took Drumm's prediction as gospel and got people excited.

Honestly, you can dislike certain players, have negative opinions of certain players, prefer that someone else plays over them, whatever - but if you come on here and actively say you want a student-athlete in good standing out of the program, you should just get straight up banned. Totally uncalled for.

He is the one I want most out of all of our targets left. Sure there are a lot of other big fish we are chasing, but I would love to have a top talent at safety. Call me a star gazer if you want but I think that’s the next step (possibly the only step) for our defense. So basically my reasoning is mostly based on need

It's a good point. When was the last time Michigan had a truly solid all around safety? Kovacs? Trips set against South Carolina? He wasn't untouchable either although he did have many fist pumping moments. Or I should say, I had many fist pumping moments. Yeah, Michigan hasn't had a true stud at safety in a long time. Maybe back to the late 90's or early 2000s. Cant remember anyone back then except Marcus Ray. He wasn't elite talent though either. Peppers would've been lights out back there though, that's for sure from the run stopping standpoint. Obviously this defense will never be untouchable either without all 11 spots filled with solid play on every play. Kinnel talks himself up saying he'll be a breakout player. I watched him last year every play and there isn't a ton supporting that he will lock down that claim. I pray to the man upstairs that I'm wrong. Prove me wrong Tyree! As for the guy earlier in the thread who doesn't like Metellus, that play against the trash last year that let that little shit Weber get free for that run was a big ass bonehead play. Tired or not, you gotta get it done. You're conditioned man. Anyone but that little punk ass Weber. I'd throw dogshit in his face in public. Anyway, you cant honestly have a guy in there in the big games that'll drop the ball like that. It'll cost you every fucking time. So I'm not sticking up for the guys comments up above but I am saying that Kinnel and Metellus need to get their shit straight for this defense to be elite because it hasn't been close to straight at all in the big games. Although it is just a part of the whole, I hope our guy Mr. Chris Partridge can right the ship and get things on track. Just Win Baby!! Railroad crossing ahead. Trains coming bitches...

These are amateur athletes and kids you are talking about. Mistakes were made, point the finger of blame as you wish. But ease up a little on trashing them out on a public forum. Hopefully onward and upward to a more successful 2018 season. Our fanbase could definitely use it at this point.

There's a difference between trashing someone on a public forum and calling out players on the team that kept blowing their assignment (ie. both our safeties Kinnel and Metellus).

How many times has EVERYONE on this site completely dumped on JOK? I never see ANYONE get upset over that. And that's what I call a double standard.

Let's just pump the brakes on the righteous indignation a little bit.

Agreed. That was what was asked of him. Wilson was a very smart and solid player.

I wonder how we'd think of Wilson if he had played for Don Brown? His safeties are frequently isolated in man coverage. Wilson would have been put in more difficult situations with the opportunity to make more big plays.
