UM Solar & the American Solar Challange

Submitted by Bronco648 on

Fortunately, here's something Michigan oriented that will help pass (some of) the time until Football season: UM's Solar Car Team and the American Solar Challenge.

The race will kick off on July 14, 2012 in Rochester New York and wrap up in St. Paul, Minnesota on July 21, 2012. The route, for the most part, will be within the B1G footprint. If you have the time, I'm sure the Team would love to see some support along the way or at the nightly camp sites:

  1. July 14: Erie, PA
  2. July 15: TBD
  3. July 16: Ann Arbor, MI
  4. July 17: TBD
  5. July 18: Nortmal, IL
  6. July 19: TBD
  7. July 20: La Crosse, WI

Here's a LINK to the Solar Car web site for a map of the actual route. In year's past, the site has hosted a CIL type substance so you can (kind of) follow along. I'll do my best to provide some daily updates (for those that are tired of "OT" posts and what current commits might (or might not) be doing.....).

Go Blue!

I think the University is doing a good amount of publicity for the event so we can expect the place to be pretty crowded. It's hard to say now what time the car will be pulling into town, but they should have a good idea the evening before.

Those should be posted on the umsolar.com either the day of or the day before, since obviously a lot of how we drive will depend on the weather.

Some other dates of interest include the start of scrutineering (today) and the start of qualifying (this tuesday)

Let's go for yet another Natoional Championship!  Someone needs to make some crystal trophies in the shape of a tire that we can display.
