UCLA Under Investigation For Recruiting Violations

Submitted by Sports on

UCLA's Assistant Head Coach and top recruiter, Adrian Klemm, has been suspended pending investigation for a series of unnamed recruiting violations. Refraining from speculation, but interesting in light of their most recent signing day class.

is indeed inept, the reason PSU's sanctions got cut short is because the NCAA was penalizing the institution for things outside of its jurisdiction.  What went on there was horrific, but it was a matter of law, not competitive balance.  That isn't to say that I haven't lost a lot of respect for PSU and their fans' ignorant defense of an enabler.  Sandusky deserves to rot and Paterno's late suffering doesn't come close to balancing the scales of those victims' suffering.  Why PSU wouldn't make a stronger statement themselves is beyond me.

The NCAA requires that administrators act with integrity.

They covered up the 2001 incident because they didn't want to suffer negative publicity (and resultant loss of ability to fund raise and recruit) for having let Sandusky use the facilities after the 1998 incident.  There's no integrity in that.

Negative.  The NCAA has a general conduct bylaw that it most certainly should have exercised in giving Penn State the death penalty.

Penn State doesn't make a stronger statement because that community honestly believes they did nothing wrong.  Jay Paterno wrote a freaking magazine article stating McQueary told JoePa in his living room about what went down and they *STILL* contend this was Sandusky only!  Look at the reaction around Penn State when JoePa got his wins back.  Pathetic!

If UCLA is punished for violations, would that allow recruits to escape their LOI, if they were so inclined?  Perhaps to flee to the greener pastures of, oh I don't know, Michigan?

Serious question.  I haven't seen any suggestion of other violations or other coaches involved.  Since UCLA suspended only one coach it would seem that they know what happened and it is isolated.  I am betting on some sort of improper contact (for example during a quiet period) rather than something big.

Anyone else remember those weird booster twitter accounts that got shut down right after someone put them on blast? That was hilarious. They could be in some shit.

I'm pretty sure that UCLA being significantly better at football over the last few years at a higher ranked undergraduate institution and being in Westwood, CA might have played some roles in their recruiting victories.

The weather, LA women, Mora coached in the NFL, Josh Rosen, the women, it's a great school, the weather.... they must be cheating to get recruits out there. Let alone visit.

Just because you lost some recruiting battles to another school doesn't make them dirty. These violations were self reported and I doubt amount to much. Granted if this guy is their "ace" recruiter maybe he should know better.

Clark plays for Mora and UCLA. I doubt he cares-and since he picked his school, I give about 2 shits about him as a player and what could have been for him Sorry--not really meaning any offense to you--I just was over hearing that kid's name about a month before he announced...now, he is history, until M faces UCLA in a bowl game and kicks their ass.
