Tyrone Wheatley offered As RB Coach

Submitted by DFW_Michigan_Man on
per Sam Webb, Touchdown Tyrone has been offered the RB Coach position on the staff. He is discussing the opportunity over with his family, so we should have resolution on the staff soon! Come home Tyrone!

Really don't want to be that guy and be all negative but....

we knew he was going to be offered...it's him accepting it that we are waiting on. So I would contain your excitement until we know he accepts it.

The one thing that needs to be discussed is "Junior, do you want to play on the team that I'll have part in coaching?" "Yeah? Good."

"Ann Arbor or Saline?"

My favorite memory of him (my all time favorite UM player, best td pose ever) was his 1st year with the Raiders. He came back to campus and stopped in the restaurant I worked at for 8 years.(yeah, 8 year plan to graduate but no student loans, paid as I went.) Anywho, he sat and started talking about how old he felt because he didn't recognize anybody any more. I laughed and said how do you think I feel, I remember you and I'm still here. He laughed and said I was right, I should feel older. A little while later, I told him I owed him a thank you because he had a really good game that beat a team that was competing with Miami for a last playoff spot (I was a huge Marino fan). He just laughed and said yeah it's cool, me and Jimmie Johnson are still tight. It took me a long second before I remembered Miami (JJ) cut Wheatley earlier that year. As I started to apologize, he laughed and really made sure he wasn't upset with my gaffe. I felt like an idiot, but he was not offended at all. Always was my favorite player, on and off the field. So glad he's coming home, hopefully. PS- I still doubt Jr's coming though.

My friend would play NFL 2k2 against me and always pick the Raiders and Wheatley would get like 300 yards against me every time. I didn't stand a chance, every trying to throw it up to Moss everytime didn't work.

"Hi Honey. Sorry to tell you, but.....we have to move from Buffalo to Ann Arbor where I'll get a high paying job at my alma mater." Yea. I think the conversation with the wife will be fine. Junior on the other hand, not so much.

He grew up a huge Michigan fan as you would expect Wheatley's son would. He's looked at other schools to make the best choice for himself. I wouldn't read too much into Michigan being left off his Top 4. It may have been that he felt things weren't progressing fast enough with his dad. We likely will never know.

For the record, Sam said this morning that, while it's not a gut feel, he thinks Wheatley will take the job and he has said in the past that if that happens, TJ will likely come here. They are very close.

But if Tyrone's son is like my daughter of the same age (HS senior) the conversation will go something like this:

"Dad, I love you and I know you went to Michigan, but it's only one of a few options for me..."

Like any parent, Ty will want his son to go where he will have the best odds of success. I'm sure he hopes that will be Michigan (don't we all)!

I know with my daughter that Michigan is certainly a strong contender (and certainly ranked ahead of MSU) but she has three schools (Michigan, Johns Hopkins and WMU) with excellent vocal music programs that are - in her view - equally good paths (based on what I've learned about their programs, she's not wrong; each has its pros and cons).

I can imagine it may be the same with Ty Jr.

Holy poop Hopkins is expensive.

Holy poop #2: A block away from Hopkins is kinda shitty Baltimore.  Fells and Canton are fun/relatively safe, but the Patterson Park area where a lot of Hopkins students live has lots of delightful petty and violent random crime.
