Troubled Former Michigan WR Ahmir Mitchell Lands at a Community College

Submitted by SkyPanther on

Ahmir Mitchell's college football career began at Michigan. Mitchell was the 161st overall high school prospect in the 2015 class.

Watching his highlight video you can see why Jim Harbaugh wanted him. He has a will to stay on his feet, and continue making positive yards. And it looks like he can just play.

He signed with Michigan on Jim Harbaugh's "Signing of the Stars" day on February 3, 2016.

Short presser with Ahmir Mitchell upon his arrival at U of M:

Ahmir Mitchell was only with Michigan a short time before he was suspended. Here is the video of Jim Harbaugh talking about Ahmir Mitchell, and another suspended player, after both did not appear in the team picture. (Many will remember the team picture that did not have three freshmen in it, Kareem Walker being the third.) It's the "we'll handle that internally" press conference, where Jim Harbaugh walked off:

The reason for the suspension was "unknown".

Mitchell decided to leave Michigan. On his twitter he said:

...what is best for me and my family comes first. Therefore, I will like to announce that I am hereby reopening my recruitment....

Mitchell took up with Rutgers in his home State of New Jersey:

...I find it best for me along with my family to go back home.

The following April, in a practice at Rutgers, Mitchell tore an ACL. He had been listed as a starter for Spring practice before the injury. In the best case scenario it had been hoped he would be back by the end of September. That did not happen. And before Mitchell ever did return he was dismissed from the team for "violating team rules".

After his dismissal from Rutgers it had been reported that he was transferring to Arizona Western College, a JUCO (junior college) in Yuma, Arizona.

He tweeted about it. But the tweet on his personal account was deleted. A tweet about it still remains on the JUCO Football Frenzy twitter:

Now, on Saturday, July 21, the Fort Scott Community College, of Fort Scott, Kansas, says he will be playing there:

It's sad to say, but it looks like the last 2 1/2 years of his life have been a slow moving train wreck, a cautionary tale that character matters.

My heart goes out to him. And I pray for him.

Good lord, it's the "Expedition To Lake Pahoe" all over again:

"...and may I take this opportunity of emphasizing that there is no cannibalism in the British Navy. Absolutely none, and when I say none, I mean there is a certain amount, more than we are prepared to admit, but all new ratings are warned that if they wake up in the morning and find any toothmarks at all anywhere on their bodies, they're to tell me immediately so that I can immediately take every measure to hush the whole thing up."

"ESPN is sensationalizing this rape cover up within the football program, because of undisclosed reasons.  We clearly said that we had a zero tolerance policy for this sort of thing, but we insinuated that it would only cover future rapes, not rapes currently being covered up within Spartan Nation at the time of the policy announcement.  Furthermore, Dantonio is a hero, not a zero and is therefore exempt from a 'zero tolerance' policy.  This girl needs to shut up and be true to MSU." -Engler in a few weeks.

Thanks.

If I was to make an educated guess (and keep in mind that its still just a guess), that this has to do with some rampant PED use at MSU.  We've all talked about it in the past, I have a couple insider folks at Fort Schem that have stated it to me before.  So this might fit since its nothing new.

Possibly, but my first thought was LJ Scott and his 7 arrests.

One in 2016 was in EL and he was driving without a liscence and had an open container in the front seat when campus police pulled him over. He admitted to drinking.  Football staff knew and did nothing.

In July 2016, Scott was pulled over by Michigan State University Police in East Lansing for driving without his headlights turned on. According to a police report obtained by the Lansing State Journal, Scott told officers he and a friend were leaving a party. Scott admitted a red plastic cup in the center console that contained alcohol belonged to him.

I will preface this by admitting I have zero insider knowledge and this is 100% a hot take based on observations.  There are a lot of people here and elsewhere on M sites that make vague allegations towards MSU regarding PED's - they may or may not be true, I can't say for sure.  If I had to venture a guess, there is probably some use but somewhat on par with use among other P5 programs.

That being said, I have thought for some time that UM has been way, WAY behind on running a top S&C program.  Harbaugh's comments about whole milk and steak and pushups sound like the type of comments that would come from someone born mid century who thinks weightlifting is "cheating" or "not natural" or some other ridiculousness.  With the very poignant post OSU game comments about getting stronger, hiring a new S&C coach and bringing in a new nutritionist, and maybe the light finally went on.

The addition of an up to date strength and nutrition program will be huge.  It’s been said on the board “we hear that every year” but somehow we’ve managed to bring in subpar strength coaches each time.  Barwis was decent, but no Herbert.  The others ran turd systems

He's probably close to a final chance to make anything of a football career. I wish him luck and hopefully he can take advantage.

Good to see he's still getting a chance to play somewhere. Been a long, downward spiral from being one of the top players in the country and going to Michigan to playing in butt fuck nowhere in Kansas. I doubt his football career will ever move beyond that school, but hopefully he's gotten the chance to turn the rest of his life around.

Just been a lot of wasted potential so far.

Have no feelings one way or another on Amir, he was a great commit recruiter for that '16 class plus smoked (frauded?) his way out of his UofM opportunity before any time was invested in him.He seems like he's getting plenty more opportunities to still use football to help him succeed, so good luck.

And if it doesn't work out, move to Colorado, get a job and buy your weed with your own damn CC.

Yeah, he seemed like a talented dude I wish panned out.  Brian Cole was another one that I wished panned out as well.

Btw, just finished last chance u on Netflix this past weekend.  Kingston Davis was on the team, let’s just say after finishing it, no surprise that he didn’t make it at Michigan.   These juco programs are a trip.
