The whole thing seems bizarre. You attend one of the greatest public universities in the world, have remarkable success, win countless awards and accolades and your only lingering memory is that the food was lousy?

I'm not sure how 2 years can prepare anyone for all the complexities of life after college.  Most students are prepared after 4...or 5...or 6+.  But to blame somewhere you spent 2 years for not preparing you for the next 50 is absurd.  Maybe they only teach advanced life skills only to Jr/Sr athletes?

I would say that some of the life choices he has made after spending 2 years on campus are not the best choices.  But, it's his life to lead.  Maybe that Michigan degree would have made a difference if he was finishing in the NBA offseason?  I'm sure he's still further along than the UNC graduates of the fake degree program.

Harbaugh criticised Michigan from his golden crapper at Stanford and is still loved.  This too will blow over.

Not Beilein's fault that you're having a shitty NBA career.

It's his job to make you the best collegiate player you can be. And I'd say given the countless accolades you received under his tutelage, he did a pretty damn good job of that.

The critique on the food drives me a bit crazy as I think an awful lot of college students lived through cafeteria food and came out just fine.

The critique about not being better prepared for life I think makes more sense and is probably something Michigan can pay some attention to.

That said I think Trey's keeping the program at arms length ever since he left just got explained.

College is a waste and I wish I had never gone. Probably one of the worst decisions I ever made. Had to live back with my parents for almost 10 years to pay off all my loans. Finally have no debts and a little in savings but will never have enough money to buy a house let alone retire.

College basketball is not the only avenue for professional level talent. Europe is a viable option for professional level talent. If someone can't make it professionally in Europe or doesn't want to try then they can enjoy their well paid internship in which they are a cog in machine that makes a lot of money of which they will see very little. It's an opportunity not an end point.

I am disappointed in Trey. College is what you make out of it whether you are an athlete or not. For that matter, you have to learn every step you take in life. Many students are successful in life because they took the extra time to learn how to be successful in business world. Real life experience is greater than what any university can teach you. Some students don't succeed in life and it is not always universities fault. As far as food is concerned, I don't think it is a big deal. College is not run by mothers. Nobody is going to tell you when and how to eat. I an tired of people not taking responsibility for anything and blame others. Especially eating. Come on Trey. Be bigger than this.

When I attended Michigan! And of course you're gonna be fed better as a millionaire!!
I agree with other posts, you leave early you're less likely to be prepared.

I just want to add some things. I graduated from High School in 1967. Ran away from home in the 10th grade before that and lived on the streets of Flint, Michigan for 2 months before living with friends. I earned a full ride to Eastern Michigan to run track for the 1968 school year. Got in a serious motorcycle accident in May of 1968. Lost the scholarship. Healed up and joined the Army in November 1968. Left the Army in 1971 and joined the Michigan State Police in 1972. I was 22 years old and lived a life many could never believe. I never complained about a meal or a place to lay my head.

Trey Burke has been been coddled way too much. He always had a bed to sleep in, a meal to eat, and probably never carried a bag around his whole life. Now he has 7.6 million dollars and is complaining about his college life.

Trey Burke and I live in two different worlds and I wouldn't change mine for his EVER. I'm blessed and retired. I want for nothing and complain very little. Maybe Trey will change his tune if and when the glory days are over and he realizes the opportunities he had were the best of his life. He should be grateful instead of spiteful.

Athletes are fed very well in college. I don't believe this for a second and how you prepare for pro life is all up to you. It's not the university's fault he wasn't prepared to be successful in the NBA after 2 years in college. I hope he does have success still but sometimes you're just not good enough. I always thought he would struggle in the NBA and that he was perfect for the college game. I think he should stop complaining and realize how blessed he is to be in the position that he's in.

This is really too bad. I won't rehash the many good points made by others from their own life experiences.

1. I actually feel some pity for him. He was on this panel to do some good for NCAA student athletes and couldn't help but make it about his own self-centeredness. It was only one piece so I hope that this is not his whole point of view of the world.

2. At some point in nearly everyone's life one has to be take responsibility for one's actions and consequences.

[aside] Many years ago, there was an episode of the TV Show E.R. One of the lead characters Doug Ross (played by George Clooney) was estranged from his abusive father who had abandoned Ross and his mom years ago. Now late in life they reconnected. Ross lays into the dad (played by James Farentino) about how so much of what was screwed in his life was all due to his messed up childhood caused by his dad. His dad took the tirade and admitted that all of that was true but then made a good point. As a grown up person what happens henceforth is up to him and he can't forever blame all of his faults on that. He is in a position to do something about many of this shortcomings.

I was an undergraduate 34 years ago and there were a lot of things I wish were better: better dorm food, more buses running late at night, warmer dorm rooms, etc. but despite all of that it was a great time - I was young, eager to learn, independent and around other young and smart people; never trade that time.

Before jumping all over the superstar of our most recent national championship run team, please read the quotes in full context.

http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/index.ssf/2016/10/trey_burkes_full_comm…

Does he sound entitled? Yes. But in context, he makes an ok point from his POV. His main critique and "checked out" comment seems to be in reference to being recognize as a 1 and done (in his case 2, and he listened) and his belief is student atheletes who have that intention may have a personalized guidance, instead of using a cookie cutter 4 year and done program for him. If his talent level is sufficient for that, I don't think that's asking too much, especially if recognized early.

Additionally, he qualified that he thinks the food is jail food. But only to him. He's simply using a hyperbole to show his dislike for the food in the dorm. Plenty of people I went to school with disliked the food, and most of us stopped getting meal plans. But as a student athelete, if that's the most he can be provided with, it's unfortunate that he disliked the food, but in context, I don't think he should be crucified for this.

The NBA is partnered with Personal Capital, an online financial advisory firm, providing 110 advisors who build finanical plans based on athletes goals They also track spending and NBA provided benefits, as well as monitor investments and fees being paid.

Training table for athletes is phenomenal - it's like eating at a very good restaurant once a day.  Lunch and breakfast for athletes is in the dorm system, and dorm food is so much better than jail food that he loses all credibility with his comments.

Classic millennial attitude - if I don't know how to manage my money, it's my university's fault. Since when was ANY college student, athlete or not, expected to have someone at the University teach them how to manage money and stay out of trouble?  It's called growing up, Trey. Perhaps you should have done more of it during your Junior and Senior year at the greatest University on earth instead of leaving early to have a mediocre NBA career.

What really pisses me off is that these are all shots at Beilein, who took a chance on a mid-level PG from Ohio and facilitated his development into a Wooden award winner and 1st round draft pick. If he actually gave a crap about his mentor he would come back, meet with him, and explain to him what they could do better for future athletes, not go to the media with this garbage.

I am waiting to hear more about how poorly our athletes are prepared from guys like Juwan Howard, Chad Henne, Denard Robinson, or even GRIII and Stauskas. Thank you, Trey, for the time and effort you gave on the court during your 2 years at Michigan. Now just go away.

I had the same meal plan that Trey had while I was an Athlete at Michigan... we ate JUST FINE... The food was good and heck, SQUAD and West Quad were all Buffets...  the Breakfast at West Quad with the made to order omelette was amazing and the only thing that got me through Saturday AM practice... I wish I would have done it all 4 years.  The basketball team and football team, i think had some extra additions on their plans as i can remember anyways... he's doing this for the whole pay for play thing that he's trying to support.  We were all poor college athletes, that's the way it's supposed to be in college, might not have been the way some Michigan students lived, but that's life.  We ate JUST FINE.  College was a privilege and should be looked that way.  GO BLUE!

athlete complaining about stupid stuff. Guess what you were in college and eat what college students eat, but actually better as athletes get training table meals all the time. He is also given a stipen to purchase more food if he wishes.

Michigan is also an academic institution and not there solely to help kids prepare for the NBA. Maybe take it upon yourself to take some financial classes....

If I saw Burke now I would give him a quarter and tell him to call someone who cares.

with hockey puck Quaddie Burgers and Cheez Whiz sauce, I could almost feel bad for him. My mom and dad paid a lot of money for me to eat that and limp grilled cheese and tomato soup for a year. In my own apartment, I managed to afford Deluxe Kraft Mac n Cheese and fish cakes.

I don't feel sorry for the limitations of his training table or the lack of training in how to become an NBA pro. It may feel like a farm team, but it's a university and the obligation of the coach should be to drive a team to victory, give you an opportunity to improve athletically, and see that you get an education.  This is not Merrill Lynch or Ruth's Chris.
