MICHIGAN WIFFED HOEK CANT CLOTHES THIS IS bULL!!!1!!1

Yeah, so everyone saw this coming.  Good luck to him.  Too bad he didn't choose the winged helmet, but we will be all right.

I do hope the color Green turns to Blue, however . . .

Great decision by Treadwell.  I mean, they have a long and rich history of producing NFL recievers like Mike Wallace and......<crickets>.

I'm not sure there is a school in the country outside of the service academies that have produced fewer productive NFL recievers.

I can see Oklahoma or Oklahoma State or a lot of other schools that are not Michigan. But I just have a hard time wrapping my brain around the idea that an elite Illinois receiver who could pick any school would choose Ole Miss. Yeah, Standifer goes there. Is he really basing a college/career decision on one high school friend? I cannot think of what possible criteria results in Ole Miss being the sensible choice.

Anyway, best of luck to him. Hopefully for him it takes Arkansas and Auburn a while to recover or else he'll be looking at fighting Mississippi State for the honor of finishing in 6th place in a 7 team division for the next 4 years.

Ole Miss could be a mid-tier SEC team in the next couple of years. They were alright this year. They're getting Treadwell and they are the favorites to get Nkemdiche. Freeze is doing...well it seems.

For what  it's worth, I was ready to move on to "Random 2014 football prospect" who is

a) interested;

b) pursued heavily by the coaching staff;

c) at the "top of their board" then

d) planning to take visits and

e) potentially making his decision at the Under Armour game followed by

f) cooling on Michigan then

g) "so there is a chance" who then

f) enters a "vision quest" then

g) goes another direction while

f) Michigan's 2014 Recruiting Class finishes Top 5

The End.

Nice announcement. He'll remember team#134 when they bring home the bacon and Ole miss watches bowl games from home. Cant remember Ole Miss actually winning a SEC championship let alone a string of games. Shaking my head and cant figure out. Coaches know best but damn lets stay away from Crete Monee lol.

There's a lot of hurt feelings in here.

Treadwell is a kid who wants the ball.  Ole Miss threw the ball 411 times this year.  Michigan threw it 318 times, and Michigan didn't even have a good running back to hand the ball to.  I think we all feel that Michigan wants to run the ball a lot.  Once Michigan gets its offensive line issues sorted out and (perhaps) gets Derrick Green on the field, this is going to be a run-heavy offense that throws to the tight end and uses play action to get its receivers deep.  Treadwell could be the #1 guy at Michigan, but that's not the same as being the #1 guy at a place that throws the ball 418 times (Ole Miss), 495 times (Oklahoma State), or 571 times (Oklahoma).

Just like I wouldn't want to be a running back at Texas Tech, I wouldn't be totally sold on getting the ball as a WR at Michigan.

Magnus - you're better than this.  You are seriously buying into the manball meme?  Ryan Lindley's SDSU stats in the Borges offense (below) would suggest they'll throw the ball as much or more than Ole Miss when the line and QB are in place.

2008 San Diego State MWC FR QB 242 427 56.7 2653 6.2 6.0 16 9 117.0
2009 San Diego State MWC SO QB 239 437 54.7 3054 7.0 6.4 23 16 123.4

a) I don't think Michigan's offense is going to be the same as SDSU's was.

b) Regardless of what might happen in the future, Michigan hasn't been effective at passing the ball for the last couple years under Hoke/Borges, except for just a couple games with Devin Gardner.  Oklahoma and Oklahoma State both have a long track record of putting the ball in the air, and Ole Miss showed they wanted to do it last season.  I don't expect the #1 receiver in the country to pursue a career based on what might happen in the future.  From 2008-2012, Michigan hasn't had a great season from a receiver.  Meanwhile, Hugh Freeze's teams have thrown the ball 436, 500, and 411 times over the past few seasons.

I think using the SDSU offense as a basis for what to expect is more logical than random speculation. I expect a balanced, multiple offense starting this year. Obviously the Denard led offense has passing limitations but we started to get a glimpse of the future with Devin in there.

Then say the coaches obviously don't want to throw because they haven't with the same QB. And I'm not sure your 5 game stat window of a new starting QB who spent half the season at receiver is really a fair reflection of what they want to do. Which we still might it completely see till Morris takes over after Gardner leaves.

Magnus

You're kind of proving my point, though.  The "five game stat window" where Michigan threw the ball 25.2 times/game isn't necessarily indicative of the future.

What *is* indicative of the future?

The past three seasons when Hugh Freeze (and Mike Gundy and Bob Stoops) have thrown the ball all over the field.

Again, if you're the #1 wide receiver in the country, you probably want to see some evidence that the coaches are going to put the ball in the air quite a bit.

Here or at SDS, we have no idea what they're going to run. And when you say things like - "we all feel that Michigan wants to run the ball a lot. Once Michigan gets its offensive line issues sorted out and (perhaps) gets Derrick Green on the field, this is going to be a run-heavy offense that throws to the tight end and uses play action to get its receivers deep" You're basically saying that with no foundation, because you have no idea what they want to run because you haven't seen their offense with their players. And you can stop mentioning Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. He didn't pick either of them either. Had he people would probably understand more. As it is you're making a case against yourself because he didn't pick the schools that would best put him in position to catch a lot of balls and go to the NFL. If that was his main desire he wouldn't be picking Mississippi over either of them.

Magnus

January 18th, 2013 at 2:30 PM ^

Do you really think Michigan isn't going to be a run-heavy offense once they get their guys in place?  I'm not saying they'll throw the ball only 10 times a game or anything, but if they were looking to throw the ball all over the place, they wouldn't be recruiting fullbacks (Houma) and numerous tight ends (Williams, Funchess, Butt, Hill, Smythe).

And Oklahoma/Oklahoma State ARE relevant because each of those teams passed up Michigan, which was the early leader.  It's not a coincidence that all three teams throw the ball quite a bit.  I'm also not making the argument that he's just going wherever they throw the ball most, because there's more to college than that.  For example, Oklahoma State has 4 or 5 other wide receivers committed.  He can easily go to Ole Miss and be "The Man."

I respect your opinions and evaluations but I think you are being a bit stubborn here.  Whatever slight (if any) advantage on pass attempts might be there might be overcome by (a) the greater exposure of Michigan football (yes than Ole Miss) and (b) a relatively open depth chart at WR with two 5*-ish QBs on the roster, and (c) an OC that at least has a pretty good history of spreading the ball around.

While I agree that the prospect of playing in a pass happy offense was probably a major draw for Treadwell (and adequately explains why he dropped UM), the stats you provided still don't explain why he chose Ole Miss over Oklahoma and Okie State who both threw the ball more than Ole Miss and are actually, you know, good at football.

I guess he really liked coaches at Ole Miss or really wanted to play with Standifer... I am not surprised that he didn't end up at Michigan, I never thought that he would, but I am surprised that he didn't end up at one of the Oklahoma Schools.  I think either one of those 2 schools would have been a better fit for him.

Wonderful area to live, lots of tradition, great fan base, great education, and they will dominate their conference. Way to think it through! I wish we had a player that would think like him.

honestly, I'm mostly just glad it's over and, if he wasn't coming to AA, at least he didn't end up at OSU/ND/MSU.  As it is now, I can just move on and not think about him anymore.

Besides, my mind is too full thinking of dead fake girlfriends and Derrick Green ... no, not at the same time.
