Too much red

Submitted by drzoidburg on

I've seen so much bitching on this blog about students showing up late. Well guess what was the only part of the stadium that didn't sell off their tickets en masse to the enemy. So my proposals:

Non students have to show ID to get in

Seating is based on attendance, including other sports, and showing up on time, but no matter what, it will be corner endzone

"Validation stickers" can be bought in person at select times/locations for double the price

Sound familiar?

Between my wife, father, and I, only one of the 3 of us missed a single game this year. For every game we were in our seats 45-60 min before kickoff. We never left early.

For both MSU and OSU we had opposing fans filling the row directly in front of us and directly behind us.

I would enjoy some kind of benefit for our loyalty. Especially after yesterday.

Maybe the AD shouldn't be in bed with StubHub if they don't want OSU fans buying tickets. We had to sell my parents' tickets at the last minute due to a medical issue. My dad felt bad that OSU fans might buy the tickets, but how bad can you feel clicking the link on the AD's webpage?

Sell OSU to make back half the season (or more) and go to the rest. My brother did it, and I gave him a lot of crap for it. Also, he had Buckeyes next to him. Served him right. I say don't buy them and let someone buy them who will go to them all, but they won't do it. Money talks. Greed rules the world. No solution.

How hard would it be to coordinate the road game next year as to make 'a show of force' in Columbus? Buy all the tickets we can off 3rd party sites. Drink together on Friday. Head to the game at the same time.. Get loud in their stadium. Getting sick of the 'Cbus is a toilet' excuse, as I think that's just another way of saying 'OSU fans are mean and I'm afraid to follow my team on the road.."

in a long time. Is it still too much? Sure, but I haven't heard any great solutions other than cutting their allotment. However it is possible that if we did that it would drive up secondary market demand such that OSU fans would bid up prices inducing even more UM fans to sell.

Sweet Jesus it wasn't that bad!!! Also red sticks out ten times more than navy blue which is what most people are wearing on a 30 degree day. Have you guys even been to an OSU at Michigan game before? Maybe if we start flipping over Ohio cars and beating up crippled OSU fans they will stop coming like they do to us in Columbus!

I think a huge part of this problem is due to the results on the field. OSU is historically good lately, and they beat us pretty much every year the past decade. Their fans know they can make the drive up and see their top ranked team have a great shot at winning the game. That's a great incentive to make the trip.

I've been to Michigan road games @ Msu, ND, NW, Iowa, and have been to Columbus for The Game three times (2004, 2006, and 2008). I can tell you right now that it's much more fun to go when the team is good and has a good chance at winning. Forking out money for tickets, hotel, and transportation is simply not as likely when the team is struggling. I don't think that makes me a fair weather fan, as no one wants to spend all that money and see their team get demolished.

I will also add that Columbus is an absolute dump compared to Ann Arbor. And the way you're treated in that town as a Michigan fan is unreal. Say whatever you want, but spending that much money to literally feel unsafe for two days straight just isn't worth it. 2006 was especially ridiculous as cops simply looked the other way when things were happening to Michigan fans. Now that I live on the West Coast, it's hard to envision ever going to another game in Columbus. I may only make it to 1 game every couple years, and I sure as hell won't be spending that trip in Columbus with all those people.

If Michigan can turn the tides of the rivalry and start beating OSU regularly in Ann Arbor, I guarantee we'll see less red in the stadium. OSU taking a step back would help as well. But until then, this will continue to be a problem. Sorry for the long post. Go Blue!

Easy solution: if you don't plan to go to the game, don't buy the ticket in the first place. So sick and tired of the "fans" that buy season tickets only to sell the most high dollar game to make their money back. I'd be 100% in favor of non-transferable season tickets, or at least something where one of the tickets needs to be used by the actual purchaser at the game or the others are invalid. Something like Disney's fingerprint scanner for season tickets would be ideal and would cut this crap out.

one's OSU tickets up for sale is the equivalent of that person saying "I don't like it."

Most season ticket holders are paying for their seats 6 months before toe meets leather.  People's lives are fluid, things/plans/schedules/circumstances change.  As a wise man once said, "Life's what happens while you're busy making other plans."
Rather than complaining about the number of opposing fans who were resourceful and bought tickets on the secondary market, those Michigan fans who feel it's a big deal should encourage their friends to buy tickets and go to the game instead, leaving less tickets available for those damned RedCoats.  If they balk at prices, and OSU fans buy them instead, M fan only has their cheap selves to blame.

Nothing is stopping M fan from flooding the HorseShoe with maize and blue, either.

The solution is simple. When purchasing season tickets you are required to donate a small amount of your DNA so the school can match when the ticket is scanned in. Those "fans" not attending will have armed guards visit their homes and will be summarily executed if they are found to have sold their tickets to someone not in the Michigan-registered fandom DNA bank. All season ticket holders will also have to take an oath of allegiance to the Fatherland Ann Arbor.

I mean it's only fair right? Not like people should be allowed to buy or sell things willy-nilly without the approval of the masses.

ALSO: TiqIQ

they are a site sponsor so let's use them, right?

I sold a few MD tix this year via TiqIQ that went to UM fans. It's a great site that separates dealers from individual sellers. Potential buyers make contact with sellers and work out payment and sale details. It was easy to know if they were UM fans. Also, I use Facebook friend request to verify the other person is a real person, etc.

We NEED to do better making the MGoBlog tix spreadsheet more prominent and the first stop for MGoBlog users.

And section 36, row 31 seats 1-2. A wholehearted FU for selling your tickets on stubhub to what have to be considered the stereotypical buckeye. Really drunk (endless airplane bottles of booze), mandatory chewing tobacco (spitting the whole game), and being a douchebags unknown to mankind. Pardon me if I lather your front yard in hazmat. Happy holidays and go f'yourselves owners of said seats. If you need the cash, and need to pawn on stubhub, you probably shouldn't be buying the tickets in the first place.

(To the board, sorry for my rant, but this stubhub shit has to end. I may give my tickets to Robert bashara next year in order to return the favor. Yesterday was ruined in more ways than the play on the field.

I took a couple of pictures to note how how red there was and even given the red stands out more than navy blue argument (which is true) there seemed to be a lot more.  The bigger problem was that at the end of the game, there was more red than blue.  Granted it was cold and even I wanted to leave, but you have to stay to the end.  Can't give the stadium away.

As an aside, some people just happen to only own a red winter jacket. I know it is crazy (I personally refuse to buy a red jacket), but the season ticket holder in front of us (a friendly older lady) showed up in a long red jacket because it was cold and that's the warmest jacket she has. We convinced her to put our yellow blanket over her, but I have seen other people cheering for Michigan while wearing a red jacket in year's past as well. It's just part of playing in cold weather, not all casual fans base their outerwear purchases on who they cheer for.

Red shows up more.  Plus Michigan fans are not all wearing blue, not as consistently as some of these other teams. Some wear blue, some maize, some white. But it was 40 degrees out, so people are wearing their cold weather gear, whether that be black or brown or blue or whatever.

I vote to really take this a few more steps. Let's put up barbed wire fencing, tattoo numbers on the arms of the ticket holders, replace the Michigan Stadium gate with "Work for Freedom," oh wait....this sounds familiar.
