Top-100 OL please, thanks.
It should be noted that Kyle Kalis de-committed and re-committed to . . . Ohio State. Just so nobody's confused.
We've got a shot at a lot of these guys. Lemming was a dingaling about MSU vs. U of M recruiting a couple years ago, though, so I still harbor some dislike toward him. He doesn't seem like the most level-headed guy when it comes to recruiting.
I am much more interested in his player evaluations than where he thinks someone is going, he isn't nearly as close to that information as he used to be.
Glad you threaded it, I figured somebody would have posted it already haha. No Ross or RJS though? Lemming!
I love having T rich so high on the list, but any list not having either RJS or Ross in the top 100, I just can't agree with
Interesting to see Standifer in there. I guess Lemming bumped him WAY up once his ND offer came through.
Wowsa...Lemming thinks pretty highly of some of our top OL recruits.
And Standifer at 98? I'm excited for him to hopefully choose us, but that seems quite a bit higher than other services. Do any of you recruiting gurus think he'll make a similar jump with other ratings services?
as a prospect. That being said, he hits all of Lemming's hot spots: he's from the midwest, he's from Illinois, and he has an ND offer.
I like the "not SIAP"!
Would've loved to have heard that conversation. And the magnitude of promises that a man named Finkell was willing to make...
Any relation to Ray Finkel? One of my all time favorite kickers.
Before the offseason, who woulda thought we'd have #33, #94 and be in Tom's words, "great shape" for #41 and #79!
Looks like we'll have at least 4 top 100 players, according to Lemming. What a haul!
Has been shooting up a lot of boards. Top 100 may be a stretch, but don't be surprised if he is a high 3*/4* by the end of the process. Many have rated him higher than Armani Reeves.
If Standifer shows that he has same ability as the shorter corners he might be rated higher because of his size.
it's a weird typo. he's a 3-tech.
For perspective:

Of interest:
33. RB Larry Caper
43. QB Kevin Newsome
75. QB Shavodrick Beaver
82. QB Tate Forcier
89. WR Je'Ron Stokes
91. OL Quinton Washington
RR signed three top 100 players in his first recruiting class despite coming off a 3-win season.
None of the three are considered impact players as they enter their 3rd season in college football.
Beaver's list (and anyone else's) should be taken with a grain of salt.
If you're wondering, the 2010 class included two top 100 players (M.Robinson and Gardner).
The hybrid Carr/Rodriguez class had McGuffie, Smith, Cissoko, O'Neill, Stonum, Moore. Of those 6, Moore is the only one who looks like a good bet to contribute to Michigan in 2011.
Yeah, but Cissoko, McGuffie and Stonum could have been big contributors if they handled their off the field issues better.
I think Lemming generally is pretty solid and does rate some good players highly that the other services miss completely.
Coulda woulda shoulda. You could say the same thing about most players on top-100 lists. Most of these top-rated flops don't fall short of expectations because they lack athleticism. So any excuses you make for Cissoko/McGuffie/Stonum, you could make for most of the other guys on top 100 lists that don't quite pan out.
Personally, I don't think 5'8" cornerbacks who don't make many big plays deserve to be on top-100 lists. And while I did like McGuffie, I saw him more as a slot guy. He didn't exactly light the world on fire for Rice last year, either, so I think it's fair to say he was overrated.
Stonum's a little bit of a different case. He's played with three different quarterbacks in three years, and most of that time has been spent in an offense that doesn't exactly feature outside receivers. His drinking has obviously hurt his career to some extent, but I still think he has the potential to have a good season if he's allowed back on the team and if Denard Robinson turns into a decent pro-style quarterback.
I'm thrilled to have so many of these recruits, but the question remains, how are we going to have room to fill our needs without pulling scholarships from current players (or at least limiting this practice, which seems a bit dubious in my opinion)?
Let's error on the side of caution and say we will have a class of 20...it's 18 right now, I think it is reasonable to assume that we will have 2 more spots open up, but we shouldn't plan on a class of 25, that's a bit risky. We still need 4-5 OL, 2-3 DT, a WR, maybe a RB, maybe/probably not a QB unless Kiel. We will still most likely gain 2-3 DB/S, from the sound of it. That doesn't even take into account guys who are just too talented that if they want to come here, we have to take them, regardless of position. The numbers just aren't adding up for me, I don't want to turn away good prospects and take extra at positions we won't need as badly. That's how you end up with Nick Sheridan as your QB (no offense).
Thoughts?
You end up with Nick Sheridan as your quarterback by recruiting guys who transfer (Jason Forcier, Ryan Mallett) or don't pan out. That had nothing to do with taking too few guys at the position. Michigan would have had Jason Forcier, Ryan Mallett, Steve Threet, David Cone, and John Wienke on the roster in 2008 if they had all played the 3-5 years that were expected of them.
