Tiger work ethic

Submitted by docraider on

Not only did he come back from the controversy, he’s had 5 back operations to recover from at the age of 42.  Not just recover from, but to compete at the highest level in his sport and win.  You don’t do that with out hard work. Earlier his swing speed was clocked at 129 mph. Highest on the tour. Welcome back Tiger.  The crowd on 18 was heart warming.

Hopefully he's back and we'll see him in contention regularly. Golf needs Tiger. That's just the way it is. People can feel bad about his cheating if they want but no one draws like Tiger.

I'll never understand the "but he's a scumbag" argument.

So are half the professional <insert sport name here> players.  Some of the most revered sports icons in history were dirt bags in their private lives.

I guess it's just pretty easy for me to separate out the professional life, the part that I am entertained by, from the personal life, the part that has zero to do with me.

I mean, it's not like he was beating his wife and locking his kids in the basement or running around committing felonies.  Moral failing at most, and morals are like religion.  Yours aren't inherently correct, or any better, than mine.

By all accounts he is a good father and is law abiding.

There is a huge difference between respecting the great achievements of a known scumbag and actively rooting for said scumbag.

For my part, I'll never understand the "yes, he's a scumbag but what he did isn't really THAT bad and so therefore I will root for him because he is good at sports" argument. There are so many people in sports who are talented and genuinely good people--sometimes even inspirational. Why the heck would I actively want Tiger Woods to win over those people?

But hey, look at Urban Meyer! Boy, if Harbaugh had done THAT, we'd ALL for sure want him gone!  Because moral high ground!  Amirite?
