Three more MSU players may be off team

Submitted by SAMgO on

There were rumors bandied about early this week about some very bad news dropping for MSU football today, and now some stories are starting to surface that include Josh King and two others being gone. Names mentioned include LJ Scott, Donnie Corley, Demetric Vance, and Kenny Lyke. Will be interesting to see how this develops.

I would have agreed with you completely at the mid-point of this season, but now...yikes.  Reshke booted for conflict with teammates, important guys quitting because it's not fun, now if a few more of their best players (which are few to start with) are booted, this has come crashing down with astonishing pace.

His best move would have been to leave at the end of the season to preserve his legacy and at a point when he probably could have upgraded.  Now, woof.  Not any jobs to leave for now, he's going to suffer through a brutal 2017 season, he may not get a better opportunity at that point.

The MSU football to Michigan basketball comparisons over the last 10 years held true for the most part, but this is way worse than our bball program which just went back to being mediocre after a fortunate run.  This is a total mess.

He's got a full leash after this season. As you said, he is their most successful coach in over half a century. By a very wide margin. And he's made a habit of beating Michigan, which is all MSU cares about. Hollis is willing to take a chance on 2016 being an aberration.

Now if they tank again next year, depending on how bad it is, Dantonio will probably get some pressure to move in another direction with who his assistants are. If that still doesn't work, he may be asked to retire after the 2018-2019 seasons. But I have to imagine Hollis doesn't want to have Dantonio make too many changes right now. If they force him out the door, there's zero guarantee that the next guy they bring in will be any better. In fact he'll probably be worse. MSU has likely hit its ceiling under Dantonio.

You have to hope that the guy who's brought you boatloads of success already can get it all turned around.

when i see a picture like this.

Or the fact that before going 3-9 (snicker) they had a few epic seasons including: crushing us, beating OSU, winning multiple B1g championships & making it to the playoffs . . . and they STILL couldn't fill their stadium consistently.

In hindsight, I wonder if their insistence on checking for MSU diplomas at the gate was the right call?

While I'm enjoying the sound of these rumors, let's wait to hear what they actually are before we start celebrating too much. Much like Reschke supposedly kicked off the team, now some Sparties are saying he isn't. Long way till fall, a lot of times guys who get in trouble in the offseason find their way back after some "internal discipline ". Especially at MSU.

If it is reading like I'm saying it's something on the scale of Baylor, I apologize. I meant, that's the only way I see them kicking 3 stars off the team. I need to note I don't know anything about MSU's roster or situation.

As great as this would be still doesn't seem to be any thing concrete out there. Either way it sounds like there may be some issues brewing in East Lansing that may not get fixed just because a few of the bad apples are removed. Hope whatever is happening keeps causing them issues all of next season as well.

Very strange what is happening. Typically, this type of culture stuff is a build-up of multiple poor seasons. After ONE bad year following up a great run?

Just doesn't make a ton of sense. There must be a few bad apples in that room that are bringing everyone else down. Maybe it was that entitlement they felt and tweeted about? How they already arrived, shit like that maybe?

Corley and Scott would probably need to murder an enginerd and copulate with its corpse before Mork would kick them off the team.  Subtract those two from a 3-9 team, and things get real ugly in 2017.
