Think I am going insane, keep having football conversations with myself

Submitted by iawolve on
Seriously, every time I have a quiet moment in the car, outside, I start having some conversation with myself that usually starts with "I can't f*cking believe x" or "Why did y have to happen". I typically fill in x and y with something that pertains to the season, coaches, players, plays in games or streaks we are breaking. Not sure if it is just me.

I've been trying to limit my Saturday evening alcohol intake, to avoid hangovers like the one I had after the MSU game. One side effect has been to wake up around 4:38 AM the morning after football games, and think what about [_insert_play_here_]. Oh well, if it doesn't kill me, it'll make me stronger. You're not alone, iawolve, you're not alone. Remember, we're just fans, once removed from responsibility. How do RR, Coach Magee and GERG deal with this stuff; let alone the players. It's their livelihood and futures on the line, subject to the whims of conniving sportswriters and some less-than-knowledgeable fans. Those coaches and fans must be taking this harder than we are; they deserve our support.

we spend the entire week thinking back about the past game. We over think all the could of should of plays and mistakes. The reason we do that is because we don't have to prepare for another game the following weekend. I am sure it bothers the coaches but they have to move on as soon as the game ends. They need to prepare for the next game.

I'm thankful wrestling starts soon. Those poor kids don't know what they are in for. "Coach, why do you keep throwing the freshman around while screaming 'DAMNIT OBI' over and over..."

I have internal existential discussions all the time...often leading to anxiety and a sense of non-being....If Michigan football is causing you such angst, you are probably an obsessive personality causing yourself much unneeded stress over something you can not control. Similar to thinking about "why we exist," asking "Why does Michigan suck now?", and "Why can't we catch a fucking break" will drive you insane. Its an endless thought loop of logic attempting to find causality to events that are completely random. Clearly, this team is not that good...that is obvious, but why they are 5-5 instead of 8-1 is simply random variation of a very average team. Iowa, MSU, Illinois (before the goal line stand debacle) and Purdue were all winnable. Do not ask the football gods why they have conspired against us...It is what it is, especially when you have a very mediocre team. When we are good again, we won't be in so many close games and hopefully we will start to get the breaks. I would rather get all the bad bounces while we are still in struggle mode, and all the luck when we need it in big seasons. The Iowa 2009 model, or OSU 2002 model for success calls for a near miraculous compilation of events to have a successful season. If every game you play is a toss up, we should expect a mean .500 record, with a variance of 1 or 2 games either way. I would rather just dominate teams in the future, and then win the 1 or 2 close games we have each year.

often. Well not really talking to myself, more like at myself. I'll make comments about things I see or think. Weirdest part is that it's always in an Australian accent and I would say a pretty good one at that.

I compulsively think about Michigan football during the season, and for a great deal of the off-season. In fact less than an hour ago I gave up reading for class because I kept unconsciously stopping to think about the Wolverines. Lately many of my thoughts have consisted of wondering why Michigan Everything Hating God can't take a break and let us have a legal lateral for a tremendous 1st and Goal situation. Blergh.
