Things you want Warde Manuel to do within his first year

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on
  1. Hire Mel Pearson.

  2. Expand the Maize Rage

  3. Remove the ads on the Michigan Stadium concourse pillars, free our poor baskets of this leftover stuff....

In other words, Mr. Manuel........tear DOWN those ads.

I would say extend Harbaugh but Hackett is likely to get that done before Warde officially takes over in March.

I'd like him to listen to the Hockey Student Section (Children of Yost) and work to restore some of what was Brandon'd away from them.

Move the visiting parents back across the ice so they aren't trying to come into the student section all heated every game.

Don't give a third of the section to three American Red Cross workers.

Don't sell a home game against Michigan State to Coyote Logistics to play in the slush.

Release the hounds o hockey and free the student section. No more rawk Muzak when the students are starting chants, etc. Also, let the pep band be a pep band instead on a what is has become. The band used to be the spark that got the students fire lit. Now they are more often trying to control them. Or in other words, bring back Yost of the '90s and '00s.

It is a shell of its, former glory. The '98 crowd WILLED that team to the frozen four' led by the students and band. Today, we,are encouraged to golf clap for the team, led by the nose from the AV booth. [bleep] that [crap]. Yost used to be a feared venue for the visiting teams.

One of the major things you're mentioning is how the Band has been used deliberately to mask the C-Ya chant.

This involved literally moving them closer to the students to drown them out better on TV.

That is impossible. People who buy their tickets can sell them to whomever they please. I don't like seeing that many OSU fans in our stadium, but the only way to cut their numbers is to consistently best them and we have not done that since the 1990s.

I don't know what other schools do, but I can tell you that in the '70s, it was a common rumor that if there were OSU fans sitting in your seats you would not get a renewal form in the mail the next season.  I think it was an urban legend, but a lot of people did think it was true, and obviously the ticket office wasn't about to debunk the rumor if it wasn't true.

They couldn't do that today with ticket demand not quite where it was 40 years ago, but if you're between the 30 yard lines it's reasonable to say that there are still plenty of people who want your seat who would actually go to the OSU game.

I feel its relatively simple.

Force the concessioneers at M stadium to operate more efficiently.  Let them setup sort of a "manufacturing cell" where everything is at arm's reach and there arent 25 steps to be taken to deliver to me a bottled coke and a pretzel.  Time is of the essence here people I have money to spend and ball to watch.  I don't know if its something simple like allowing extension cords or put the dang refrigerators on a pallet thus to be moved by a pallet jack or not.  We are the Leaders and Best, put the concessioneers on a time study minimum or let someone else take the wheel.

I haven't been to every single one but the 2nd level east side are notorious offenders of inefficiency.  I have sworn several times, also, I have sworn I could double their money uptake.

Also, please either bring back the porcelain troughs or more restrooms.  The wait is too long and there is ball to watch.

Continue an open and honest dialogue with the student leadership.  Reading how Brandon and Co. asked for student feedback to save face in Endzone was maddening.  Was grinning ear to ear while reading about Proppe handing Lochdawg his ass in Flint.

There are a lot of things Warde Manuel could do, but this is one of the most important things that he could do to help reinforce confidence in the direction of the athletic department. Actually, doing this makes all the other things that probably need doing (a few of which have been mentioned in this thread) that much easier.

There have been many efforts to brighten up Crisler, and admittedly it is better than say 10 years ago, but it's still pretty dungeon-like in the upper bowl because the ceiling is painted black.

Yost has silver panel-like things on the ceiling to help reflect the light and dramatically brighten the building. I'd like to see a similar revision applied to Crisler. So, paint the ceilng white, or attach the reflective silver panels to it; do something please.

If you look at salaries for college hockey coaches they are all under 400k. Texas pays their baseball coach over a million dollars and baseball at Texas is analogous to hockey at Michigan. Ohio State's womens basketball coach makes 800k. We could offer 600K for a coach and get the pick of the litter while not really doing much to Michigan's finances.

I am surprised their are zero noodles on campus, I think we could use at least one. Also bringing back retired numbers. Also I think michigan has too many home games should play at a neutral stadium. Move the student section in the big house to crisler arena on a first come first serve basis. I am sure more money can be generated through add space in the big house.

How would he do this? What motivation would others have to change? Would Michigan threaten to leave? That would not work at all.

He could offer to play back to back road games against one of them, but I still doubt they would do it. I think a better idea is to just start crushing state and turn it back into the irrelevant rivalry game it used to be.

I'd like to see him jump the B1G and get home games with sparty and ohio staggered again. The conference screwed Michigan when they changed from the God-awful legend and leaders divisions to east and west by putting them on both the home schedule in the same year. That is moronic at best. This change will please season ticket holders and most fans in general. Make it happen Warde!

Anything that gets the Big House rocking whether it is alcohol, bringing the student section closer like Hacket wanted, better wifi. We need to bring some noise and make Michigan Stadium a place of intimidation especially with organized chaos coming to the Wolverine Nation.

Brandon did do something great.  He started restoration of the course to the Alister MacKenzie / Maxwell design.  The greens will be enlarged to their original sizes, bunkers restored and unnecessary trees taken out.  The views will be great and the course really nice.  Only a few MacKenzies in the US exist including Augusta National, Cypress Point, and UM.

In Michigan. Crystal Downs, Frankfort. OSU'S Scarlett Course was a McKenzie, Jack Nicklaus did some recent work. Pasitiempo, San Fran CC a couple others. UM'S was actually restored in the 90's but not a full McKenzie restoration. Loved playing UM when I could.
