See, I don't see this game as really calibrating my expectations.  This team wasn't going to be undefeated, and without a better pass rush they'll struggle against teams that can throw the ball.  Honestly, CMU lost its starting QB and RB early on and I think that may be why the offense struggled.

This is an 8-9 win team.  Luckily Nebraska looks horrible and MSU doesn't have an offense like Akron.  OSU will be very scary, and NW has an offense but who knows defensively.

Sleepwalking players. Toussaint was maybe the only guy that didn't play with his head up his butt the whole game, and we still came out with a win. 3-0 boys, better come out stronger next week!

I just finished the game on my DVR, woke up late. All I can say is who was that garbage team? I feel like I was in a nightmare. Akron deserved to beat us, we played horrible. Coach Hoke needs to rip some ass!

But Michigan led 21-10 and Gardner gave the Zips life. And then it became a dogfight. When you are a young team playing a veteran team and you let it hang around, you give them more will than they think they possess. Their skill level rises and they match you play for play.

I know this, I would rather have Michigan on offense than defense in the end of game situations. Those corners, Lewis and Taylor, will now become regular targets. And Bolden had an awful day tackling and covering.

Didn't really make sense to me not to try out guys like Bryant and Taco. They kept playing the same guys that weren't getting anything done.

Props to Fitz, Blake, JR3, Lewan and a few others that played hard all game.

Well apparently I'm staying off MGoBlog for a while. What the hell makes us entitled to be moaning about this win. Yeah they didn't play well. Yeah it was against effing Akron. 3 years ago this was loss and it wouldn't have been close.

Michigan committed more turnovers, and gave up 311 yards through the air, with the Zips getting more first downs, 21-19, and totaling 417 yards, 8 less than Michigan, while holding the ball nine minutes longer. Brutal performance.

... but I think it's time to drop them back again. We don't have the consistency on offense or defense yet, and most of that starts with the lines. If we can't own the line of scrimmage against these guys, we will lget blown off the ball - and lose, probably badly - against Penn State, Northwestern, Nebraska and OSU. The only compensation for that is Devin Gardner being error-free and awesome, which isn't happening every week - even Heisman winners aren't that good. We can defend the pass and pass block decently, but we can't stop the run or run consistently, and that's going to kill us against the B1G.

Obviously this was a huge let-down mentally after the Notre Dame game. In the couple of years that I've been here, this board seems to scoff at the importance of the mental game and emotional intangibles. Maybe I'm just reading that wrong. At any rate, this game showed the importance of the mental game. Our guys just weren't ready to play, weren't motivated, kept waiting for the other guy to do it, etc. I hope they learned a lesson that any team can beat you if you're not present mentally as well as physically.

What this means going forward: we're the same team we (or most of us) thought we were. We're the most physically talented M squad in a long time, we have an offense and a QB made for it, and we're young. Maybe still a year away. But this game doesn't make me change my outlook on the season at all.

it must control the ball and the clock and put as little burden on its bend-or-break defense. Without a pass rush, Michigan can only hope that Ryan comes back quickly and changes the complexion of things, or these guys get better.

Akron has a hell of a coaching staff on the sidelines, but this is still a game we need to win big.

And the players jumping into the stands after this one should be running laps all week. This is one where you head straight for the tunnel.

Mattison and Borges treated the 1st quarter like a scrimmage. They thought they could "practice" what they needed to work on without concern. They were wrong and it set the tone. A horrible victory.

I was shaking the entire 4th and I think I hit 140 BPM at some point, glad I got my workout in for the week. Hope all of that collective shit is out of their system.

We all love the team, some of us love the university, but remember kids, if your identity is wrapped up in a football team, you need to get some perspective.  This is entertainment.  It has no bearing on real life, so just enjoy it when you win.

I don't want to hear any complaining from anyone who DIDN't watch the game in Berkeley at the UM bar which today was over run by Buckeye fans. The worst experience watching a game I've ever had. This whole town looks like fucking columbus right now.

Game summary:

-Practice. Did it happen last week?

-Interior line got "blowed up"

-did Trevor Siemian transfer to Akron for the 4th Q?

-I think what everyone learned watching that game is that we have not gotten to the point when we can not include the QB in our running game. It's the only way. We have to play that game to have any hope of setting up anything from the I-form. Akron had nothing for the pistol read or the inverted veer.

-to me, playcalling was pretty far from the forefront of what was wrong. there were severe execution and decision making errors.

Young teams can't overlook ANYONE, especially after big emotional games.

Michgian thought they could show up and they would win just because they had block M's on their jerseys and wings on their helmets today..

Well, they certainly do not have the right to rush four, and frankly it was pissing me off that Mattison didn't blitz earlier in the game.  The longer you let a team like Akron hang around, the more hope you give that team.  Michigan needed to stomp them early, blitz them early, take the wind out of their sails early.  Instead, Michigan game Akron more and more hope. That was awful to watch.

Go ahead, get your degree from a second rate school...I'll laugh when your wondering my I got the job as a Michigan grad...and you didn't.

It's school...then sports...

And waste a dime because of Akron? Really? Mich played horrible...but won. 4 weeks from now, you won't remember this if we are 7-0 for MSU...

I'll own up to it. I didn't check until the last play, but I had the volume on an even number all game. I changed it to 21 before last play. Lack of focus. Won't happen again.

it was a real shitshow and one of the worst games I've seen in a while.  All depends on how the team responds.  Beat up UConn like a red-headed stepchild by 35 in their house and all is forgotten.  Sneak out with another close win and all of a sudden this season looks like it could be a long one.

The question, which none of you know the answer to, is what does this team do as a team after this game and did they learn anything? Bad Devin nearly killed us, but great Devin saved our bacon just barely. Fans running around in panic and yelling unacceptable is just foolishness. The current staff has 1, count them geniuses, 1 full recruiting class. Here is your hint, young talent is inconsistent, gets too up and too down on itself, and must play and learn. Today was a complete learning experience. Now, based on what they do the rest of the year, we will know whether they learned or not.

Last I checked Gardner, Fitz, and a few other key players are all upper class men that played pretty shitty most of the game, don't give them excuses. As you can see by there post game press conference, they knew that they played like shit and that they as upperclassmen are to blame for not being prepared. Don't sugar cost crap when u see crap!!!!
