Actual humor here written by anybody not named BiSB is VERY rare and you did a great job with this. Nice work.
FWIW how bad would it suck to be a hard-core Tennessee fan right now know you've been turned down or had your AD kill any hire worth a shit?

Loved it. I can watch Danny Devito say no all day.

Most of these guys are wildly optimistic, I think. If Tennessee is going to hire a permanent coach in this cycle, then it's probably not going to be anyone who is currently experiencing success at a P5 program. It will either have to be a second-chance gig for somebody who flamed out elsewhere (like Sumlin or indeed Hoke), a hail mary on some FCS or other lower-division innovator (like Craig Bohl or that guy from Colorado College of Mines), a deep retread (like Herm Edwards), or double-dog dare on an unproven assistant (ike Tee Martin or some coordinator).
I kind of think their best bet is to stick with Hoke as an interim for a year to kind of push the reset button, then come back next year with a better plan and approach.

isn't leaving Stanford and the West Coast. Only job I see him taking is the NFL job.

How about former NE coordinators? It could work.

I was told Tennessee was a better job than Purdue. (Yes, I know Tennessee is a better job than Purdue, I'm just saying it's not THAT much better.) BTW, Purdue was ranked 41st in S&P+ this season while Tennessee was ranked 107th. Who would want to take on that rebuilding job with that fanbase? I get it, they have resources, a giant stadium, a checkerboard endzone, and a cool dog mascot, but is that enough to get one to leave the world's biggest drum, the Golden Girl, and appalling medical facilities? Apparently not.

The fans might have had something to do with it....again

I heard that Brohm wanted the job but that (idk if this is true) had been hearing serious backlash from Tennessee fans about them not wanting him. Mix that in with the apparent toxic situation their AD and really, that entire department was in, I can see why he would turn it down. He's also in one of the weakest divisions in power 5 football. If he is able to turn Purdue around to make them a respected/feared team on the schedule, he will be in for a big time coaching job with a bigger paycheck.
December 6th, 2017 at 4:25 PM ^
Kiffin coached at Tennessee for one year and left for greener pastures at USC. Tennessee fans excoriated him for that move. I think the few Tennessee fans with any sense of self-awareness know that taking Brohm from Purdue after 1 season cedes them the moral high ground.

awareness....'
here, 'few' would be translated into the number 3. there couldn't be any more than that.

A friend of mine is tied in pretty well with boosters and the athletic department there. Told me the saga is finally over and that they are hiring Pruitt as their next head coach. He's expecting it to be made public shortly as there is really no way Pruitt can coach in the playoffs while trying to salvage the recruiting class for the early signing period.

The Saban coaching tree is looking to shape up the same as the Belecheick coaching tree: the headcoach controls everything and the coordinators all end up flaming out.
December 6th, 2017 at 4:27 PM ^
Jimbo was doing pretty good at FSU and Smart seems to have Georgia rolling, at least for the time being. Also, like it or not, Dantonio has been really good at MSU. FWIW Saban also gave Josh McDaniels his first coaching job as a grad assistant at MSU.
December 6th, 2017 at 4:24 PM ^
Except Kirby Smart is doing anything but flaming out right now.....

Considering how dire our situation looked this time three years ago I'm not going to rag on Tennessee too much. We lucked out with Jed York pissing Harbaugh off one time too many at the exact right time. Had that all happened a year later or year earlier, we could have a lame duck coach like Schiano right now. Even just typing that sent shivers down my spine.
Either way, Tennessee had better hope Tee Martin sees his way to coming back. If he passes, you have to sit there and wonder who's left.
December 6th, 2017 at 8:47 PM ^
or anything near that. We got turned down by nobody and there were a lot of good fallbacks interested if we didn't get our first choice. The coaching search was led very competently and the administration, donors, former players, etc were united behind it.
It was as far from what's going on in Knoxville as might be possible in a coaching search.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:26 PM ^
Who were the good fallbacks who were interested (and in whom we were interested)? I haven't read the accounts, and I don't remember Hackett's fallback options. I know the board/Brian wanted Tom Hermann to be option no. 2, but I don't recall hearing that UM was going to be that forward-thinking if Harbaugh fell through.
December 6th, 2017 at 6:48 PM ^
with Tee Martin is close to the worst possible outcome.

a real event of a monk setting fire to himself to protest human rights abuses, to symbolize a football coaching search. Next time I would suggest burning couches, tires or dumpsters.
