Ten Quarterbacks Who've Got 'Next'

And here is the text:

John O’Korn, Jr., Michigan — This could seem like cheating, but the Houston transfer will sit out this season, after which he’ll have two years of eligibility. Expect coach Jim Harbaugh to help O’Korn (6-4 220) re-find his mojo: O’Korn had a great freshman year where he threw for 3,117 yards and 28 touchdowns before dipping as a sophomore and losing his job to Greg Ward, a more mobile option. Korn was the No. 31 pro-style quarterback in the 2013 247Sports Composite.

Cool to see some O'Korn appreciation, sometimes it feels like he is the forgotten candidate for next season because he has to sit out this year. Long way away, but I'm really looking forward to the QB battle in 2016.

I jus watched his freshman year highlights and let me just say he looks like he's on an entirely different level compared to Shane at this point. Obviously, he was playing against the AAC (UCF, Rutgers) and not Minnesota or Kansas State, but he looks to have a much higher ceiling in 2016 at this point.

I was pretty sure about Chaka Khan but I looked and the drums are from "Player's Ball (Extended Remix)" by Outkast.

Kanye's MO is to sample heavily when he produces. I think he's got a very good ear for that kind of thing and it usually ends up sounding great, but didn't want to just leave it at "that's Kanye" because it is a little more complicated, especially without his vocals.

Yeah, the vocal is straight from the chorus of Chaka Khan's "Through the Fire" pitched way way up (also per Kanye's usual M.O.)  Kanye loves to take records that were pressed at 33rpm and play them at 45 and sample the result.

My favorite sample where Kanye does this is "Two words" from the College Dropout album that that pretty much takes all of the instrumental parts from Mandrill's Peace and Love played at 45:

When you watch that video, you also have to realize he was running the Air Raid offense. They pass the ball 70-80% of the time (inflated QB stats) and it uses very quick and simple routes (slants and bubble screens) to give the QB quick options to get the ball in space. Harbaugh's offense is nothing like it. It will require a much stronger mental game and defense reading ability than anything O'Korn did during his freshman year. Not to say he can't do it, but take his freshman season with a grain of salt. The pro-style offense is much more difficult to run than the Air Raid.

Keep in mind, he was coached by Hoke. I don't think it's fair to write him off given the fact the change he has undergone coaching wise. But Harbaugh could change his issues around...fast. At least that's what I'm hoping!

No. Morris just hasn't improved since when he wasn't good in HS. Rudock was casted away because the other Iowa QB father was threatening a transfer even though Rudock outperformed him at all times last year. Development is not all on the coaches either players can get better on their own.

It is easy to look back and wonder why a future NFL hall of famer was in a QB battle at college, and say that he should have been the guy.  But the fact is that Henson was better at the time.  Might be why Brady is so good today, being pushed by competition.

Would love to see Morris succeed but I'm not optimistic he'll beat out Rudock this year or Gentry, OKorn, etc. next year.  Sure he hasn't received ideal coaching and hasn't been on the field a lot.  But he couldn't beat out a Gardner and, when he has been on the field, has never looked promising (other than a cannon arm).  His best throw ever was the TD pass in the Spring game (which was against a 5'8 RB in single coverage.)

At a minimum he provides us with continued stability at the QB position. Once Rudock is gone O'Korn will be the only player on the roster who has even led a drive that resulted in a TD pass (34 of them, in fact). Not one other player on the roster has a single one of those to his credit.

Assuming no one but Rudock throws a TD pass for us this year, that is.

But yeah... sounds bad either way.

I've felt like O'Korn is probably the man next year for a while now.  I'd love for Morris or someone else to really jump out at us between now and then, but if no one does I still feel like O'Korn will be a good one.
