The team! New tunnel paint job.

Submitted by Maize on

A friend posted this to my Facebook group. This is pretty cool if it's real. I'm attempting to resize but failing miserably..

If you look at the vertical columns in a traditional Block 'M' ...

...you'll notice that they are exactly parallel to each other.

Now take a look at the vertical columns in this uppercase 'M', which is similiar to the one used on the signs in the tunnel...

...you should notice that they are splayed, or that they flare out at the bottom.

With regard to the psychology behind it all, unfortunately my degree was more focused on the production aspect of art than the components of its design.  There is a certain science behind what colors to use, what type of fonts to use, and how to arrange it all on a page so that it evokes a certain response or feeling in the viewer.  While I think I have a pretty good "feel" for it, I didn't take enough typography classes to truly understand this science of design.  I know just enough to be dangerous.

As for incorporating art into my career, well, yeah, that didn't work out so well ... I'm an elementary school teacher now.  I will admit, however, that the kids are constantly amazed by the displays, posters, diagrams, etc. that I am able to produce!  :)

I think it's great. The more it looks like it was drawn on there by some players in the '80s the better. As precise as everything has gotten, a more organic look is refreshing, especially for something like this that is meant to inspire. What would be terrible is if it's all done up like a successories poster. I would even lose the yellow border.

If there's one thing I take away from this thread, it's the fact that I wish the "ALL IN!" catchphrase would be taken out to pasture and put out of its misery.

If there's two things I take away from this thread, it's that I rather like the new tunnel motif.

Personally, I never much cared for that "Hard Edge" nonsense.  And I say that as the hardest-edge Rodriguez supporter this side of the Detroit Free Press.  I'm glad it's gone from the tunnel.

And "The Team, the Team, the Team," has real history and real Michigan meaning behind it.  You of all people don't need that reminder from me.  So that's all good.

"ALL IN" is not going away; if only for the reason that it is so emblematic of what was wrong with Michigan (not Rodriguez) when Rodriguez was here.  We weren't All In, and that was Michigan's fault.  it ought to be a reminder; a cautionary tale.

Something tells me this was more Brandon than Hoke, but I could be wrong.  Either way I love it.  Much better than Hard Edge.  Is Hold the Rope in the locker room gone as well.

Neighbor is great friends with the dad of a recruit who was there Sunday.  Apparently as mentioned with the tunnel art, there are frick'n clocks everywhere in the locker rooms counting down various opponents.

..& this just seems perfect. My initial reaction was, why did it take so long to do this?

Does anyone have a pic of the Rose Bowl door? (it too is beautiful in my mind)

I got to say this is SO much better than Hard Edge.

But, I still want them to move that huge PVC pipe that was installed after the stadium expansion. It is blocking the GO BLUE.

Yes,reroute pvc and enlarge the script so that the last "The Team" is as large as possible. This is Awesome! How could you not be "Sky High coming out that tunnel? Would love to get a framed print! This to me,tells everyone who we are. Thanks Bo

In comparing it to the old photo, it looks like the 'GO BLUE' may have been repainted as well.  I know this picture is from a slightly different perspective, but the 'O' seems a little wider in the old one, plus you can barely see the 'G'...
