meaning that Sam Webb recently touted Austin Grandstaff as a young Nik Stauskas.  Soon after he came onto the fan's radar here, then then drops to Ohio....  its annoying.

I think his point wasn't to bemoan losing the next Nick Stauskas to Ohio, but to highlight how we keep hearing some good tibits or insight from recruiting that certain "X" recruit likes Michigan and good things might happen and then suddenly the recruit is going elsewhere with little to no heads-up (probably for just the lay recruiting followers). I think he was commenting more on the uncertainty of recruiting. The Grandstaff to Stauskas comparison is meant to highlight how people thought he was high on Michigan, would fit well in Michigan's system, and that Michigan might have another Stauskas in Grandstaff (implying we are in really good position for him), only to have the rug pulled out from under us. Not piling on about Grandstaff but using him, among other recruits, as examples for how unpredicable this is (once again, for the lay recruiting followers).

We seem to get very good tight ends and coach Nussmeier is going to have this kid in the league in 3 or 4 years with a top notch degree in hand. It's not a done deal but you have to like our chances in this recruitment.

Knowing nothing outside of what's been posted one would guess at the very least it is a two horse race. As a TE I could see how ND would seem appealing. To be honest it has to be down to the Irish and the wolverines. Really hope it's us.

I agree with you about ND, and I think Michigan has shown they want to use TEs, has a good history with TEs, and Nuss used his TEs fairly well at Bama, so no disagreement there.

But Meyer did utilize TEs well when at Florida. Mostly in H-back roles, but that's something Meyer has been really searching for in his time at OSU and has yet to find a good option. Lot more spread teams are going toward the H-back more. They stretch the LOS, they provide the ability to block things in a few different ways, and they really threaten the seam and the curl/hook area, typically a bit better than your typical "slot ninja". Meyer, for one, was forced to start running his shovel passes more to RBs rather than TEs, which isn't all bad, but has less of the deception and lacks some of the initial run threat that's provided by the speed option. So OSU and Meyer can make a sales pitch, it just comes down to what Clark wants to do (if he wants to be a true Y-TE, the sales pitch doesn't work as well, for instance).

"You can be the next Aaron Hernandez" doesn't go over really well with recruit's parents?

I tend to believe Meyer uses the EA Sports method. "You can be like TE 81 who is not to be confused with Aaron Hernandez but put up pretty good numbers." Everyone buys that, right?

I always wonder what the draws are to South Bend and Columbus.  I haven't spent any time there and so is it the cities, the facilities, is it just Urban is so cuddly or what?  I get that Ohio can crow about their recent W-L record and their record with their chief rival in a decade or so.

This would seem to be a wild(er) recruiting year, it could start a good domino effect to start having a nice class shape up for Michigan via having some talented players committing and this drawing in others.

Seemed like Speight and Ferns (and others) picked up the self-appointed jobs of peer-recruiting coordinators, this class doesnt seem to have that person yet...

Same as Michigan. The booster's firm and "crisp " handshakes at Columbus and the very nice academic "support" also helps. I can only guess Green Leprechauns and the cool Reddish Purple Balloon face trick that Coach Kelly can do helps ND.

As a TE, I can easily see the attractiveness of ND.  They have had good success lately using the TE position and sending those TEs to the NFL.  OSU has been extremely successful over the last decade and almost went undefeated for 2 seasons in a row. Maybe the cities suck but how much time did you really spend off campus during college?
