Tate Forcier Comparison

Submitted by jb5O4 on
I usually try to avoid comparing kids in college to players in the NFL, however as a huge Michigan Wolverines fan and a huge Saints fan I will make an exception here. Does Tate's movement behind the line of scrimmage remind you of Drew Brees? The way Forcier can avoid the pass rushers and run forward into his throws, throw on the run seems similar to the way Drew Brees does.

It is now...but coming out, there were many that questioned Brees' arm strength... he got much stronger in the NFL, as did Tom Brady's arm. Breese is still 5.11.5 though so height doesnt matter so much. IMO, Tate is more like Colt McCoy but a little faster and more elusive.

I don't think their arm strength changed that much. They were just asked to make different throws. Also, I don't know if I agree with your assessment of McCoy as compared to Forcier. McCoy led his team in rushing last year. I don't know if I can picture Forcier doing the same at any point...

As usual, you and I agree to disagree. Colt McCoy ran for 561 yds all of last year... Tate is already over 100 2 games in to the season...there is a good chance that Tate ends up with more Rushing yds than Colt had last year...and Tate is only a Freshman: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/stats?playerId=175772 Many questioned Brady's arm strength and his size coming out. He got in the weight room and increased both significantly once he got in the NFL. He even won the NFL skills competition for strongest arm in 2002 with a long toss of 65 yds. Brees was considered to have a good arm in short to intermediate routes coming out of collge, and his height was a detraction to some who grade NFL prospects. Still his production in college and accuracy couldnt be denied and he ended up as a 2nd round pick.

I still think Drew Tate. D Tate had the same moxie, gritty, scrappy, Eckstein-style to his play. He had a little bit less mobility until the knee injury but was a better passer coming out of high school. D. Tate was a great QB until his team lost all ability to protect him in the 06 season.

The Jeff Garcia thing is getting old at this point, but that's mainly because it's spot-on. They're both very slight, slippery in the pocket but always looking downfield, can throw on the run, and have pretty good mechanics. That being said, Garcia went to San Jose State University, so I can only assume he wasn't as good of a player coming out of high school as Forcier was. But there are some other differences, too. For example, Forcier isn't gay.
