Supermeta: Your Idea for Harbaughvation

Submitted by 1464 on
Harbaugh has done some cool things since he got here. Summer Swarm, the open invite coaching clinic, etc. He's really innovating some stuff to capture attention. That said, what innovative ideas would you like him to introduce?

My best suggestion would be inter-squad spring games. If it is legal, we should scrimmage Texas or Oklahoma or someone similar for something resembling a soccer friendly. Major TV would roll with it, fans would have an actual game to look forward to, and the risk of injury is minimal due to the 6 month period that they'd have to recover. What other ideas are out there?

Let's not turn this into a flame war about recruiting either. There are plenty other threads for that.

I love your idea even if you stole it from Rich Rod.  I need some time to think about mine.

In the mean time how about we all rush to judgement on topics when we know about 20% of the facts on and  most of the statements defy logic.  Then we can take that solid info and make wild sweeping moral judgements to state how great our own personal morals are....oh wait we have the Weaver thread to do that.

"Risk of injury is minimal because of the 6 month recovery period" Glad to see you are thinking about this from the players perspective and not just the fans!

agaisnt an NFL team.  Get Brady and the Pats in the Big House for a scrimmage.

Also, when I was a kid, Bo used to have an open practice that local kids could attend.  We went on a field trip from my school and it was awesome.  We had the run of the stadium, which was mostly empty save for several hundred 7 - 10 year olds (I don't remember what grade I was in or what year this was, but figure mid 1980's).  We got to go on the field, meet some players, and watch Bo coach practice.

That was the first time I was ever in Michigan Stadium.  Every kid left that day a Michigan fan.

A multiple school skills tournament. To really reduce injury risk you could seperate teams into a 7-on-7 tourney and a lineman battle tourney, each for points with winners in each tournament and total points winners for schools.

I have no idea how feasible this is with regards to compliance, but it could look a lot like Summer Swarm. We can make it beneficial to both schools by meeting at a high school that both programs want to recruit (Play Clemson at Paramus, Texas at a Houston/Dallas school, UCLA at Hawkins, Florida State at IMG, Bama or Auburn at Prattville, etc.). Coaches could hold a satellite camp early in the day and the campers could stay and watch the two teams compete, or it could be made into a two day stop. This is really just an add-on to the current satellite system, but it may asuage some of the bitching and moaning from warm weather schools about our sat-camps. It'd be cool for the kids to not only get instruction from our coaches, but then see our dudes have a friendly competition with another big time program.

I think Harbaugh should set up a Peruball tournament where teams are made up of conference coaches. Winning conference gets to have satellite camps on the loser's campuses.

Do a freshman only game in off season between that classes' commits and former UM commits on an annual basis? i.e. our 2016s who sign in Feb 2016 vs all the 2016s who accepted but didn't end up in class.

Granted the former commits team will have 3x the # of players and thus will be more fresh in the game but it will be a great test for our recruits.

Test for players to climb trees. Fastest players to the top get to build a treehouse in the style of a luxury box at the Big House. Losers have to sit and watch paint dry while Harbaugh tosses a football to himself shirtless. It is assumed that Harbaugh will use these tree houses each year to host recruits to show them what hard work, dedication, and climbing like a squirrel can get you at Michigan.

For the spring game Harbaugh needs to be out there like in the summer with Peru Ball. No shirt and playing QB. Obviously he doesn't need pads because he's Harbaugh.
