Sugar Bowl Mgohappyhour Meet-up in New Orleans

Submitted by jlvanals on

First, I just want to say how cool it has been to get to interact with so many people on this board over the last few weeks.  We really have a great group of people here and I think I speak for everyone when I say that the people here are a big part of why I love Michigan football.

A few of you have asked if there would be a good place for a happy hour/meetup on the second and I meant to get this up earlier, but I've been swamped at work.  Better late than never, so if anyone is still on the board and going to NOLA, I will be at Cooter Browns tomorrow, January 2nd, from 11-3ish to, among other things, watch Sparty faceplant on national television.  Directions to get to cooter browns can be found online at cooter brown's website or in the NOLA document I made (see below).  Great meeting so many awesome people through this, hope I get to meet up with a few of you in person, and GO BLUE!!

Quick question: I'm staying at the Sheraton in metaire (sp?). I was wondering if anyone had an idea of how much cabs are from that area to the city/superdome/French quarter areas. Just saw in the guide that mist don't take credit, so want to know how much cash to bring. Also, are cabs usually easy to get at the end of a night of drinking?

From the Sheraton to the French Quarter, I think you're looking at $30-$40 each way.  That's a guesstimate of course.  As for how easy cabs are to get, it really depends on the time of night, etc. but there are a number of cabs in New Orleans and it generally isnt a problem.

I can say that that is correct. I took cabs back and forth from Kenner (right by Metarie) Friday night and it was about $33 plus tip both ways. In fact, the return trip at 4 in the morning was a flat rate of $33, and that's what the first cab driver said is common. It's about a 25 minute drive, and there was no problem getting the cab to come out to the suburbs or find one off of Bourbon Street.

jlvanals, thank you for everything you've done to help us. I have been here for 3 days already, and I am still working my way down your list. It has been awesome.

Since you mentioned not walking... what's it going to be like between the Superdome and the Courtyard Marriott (St. Charles and Canal) after the game?  Will I need a cab or will there be enough M fans walking back to make it safe?

Thank you jlvanals. Your guide (and whoever else has given NOLA advice for that matter) has been used by my girlfriend and I. We're basically winging it down here and your and others suggestions have been put to use (and will be the next 3 days); Please know that it's appreciated.

Very likely to see you all @ Cooter Browns'. (I'll be in the Maize n' Blue rugby).

We had dinner tonight at the Commander's Palace.  Pricey, but very nice.  We took the St. Charles Streetcar in both directions.  Get on/off at Washington.

Hope to see you at Cooters tomorrow!

On the flight down some guy pulled out a packet asking for advice and without seeing your guide I guessed that it was it. Sure enough page 5 mentions "mgouser so-and-so" - well done
