Stop the madness. Decide already.

Please. Hire Gruden. He is the best choice now. The whole 'process" thing is about Brandon now. We are losing recruits and damaging the brand. Decide already.

Thesis: DB demonstrated an amazlng lack of compentecy in this process.

1. DB should have recognized the need for a coaching change by the Illini game.  For UofM to allow Iilini to put up 65 displays all the evidence needed that nothing has changed, and, in fact, the pendulum is still swing to the negative.

2. DB stated he will evaluate the entire year to make a decision. Excuse me, but I agree with voices that state that having to wait for 1 game, out of c. 30, to make a decision shows you have the wrong guy. 1 game does not change materially change the record of 3 years.

3.Here is the most important piece. DC should have used trusted intermediaries to seek out Miles, Gruden, Harbaugh, etc. to inquire re the Michigan job. These sorts of conversations occur all the time in corporations re potential mergers. No specific conversations just "what would you do if Michigan came calling? would that interest you? what's your pros and cons?". But no, someone had the arrogance to assume that we could get anyone we want.

4. To proffer "Let Brandon take his time to make a decision". I would agree IF we did not have (1) a Big 10 Off player of the year nervously wondering who wil control his destiny for the next 2 years (2) a recruiting class that is imploding (3) a defense that is in shambles and needs a complete revamp (4) a need to get top-flight defensive talent now in this recruiting class.

For all the reasons above, particularly point 3, Brandon failed. And as I have stated before, competency in one area of life does NOT translate to other jobs or environments.

Which ex-NFL coaches have come to college and demonstrated success at that level?

I can think of one: Pete Carroll.

He was also forced to vacate 15 wins and a national championship.

While his background and that fact are not related, it shows that the argument for NFL coaches doing well in college is extremely weak.  Bill Callahan and Dave Wannstadt are the most typical examples.

Is that what we really want?

Saban did move back and forth, that's true.  But he had loads more experience in college than the pros when MSU hired him.  I don't put him in the same category as Gruden, for that reason.

I don't mean to say there's no chance Gruden could be successful, I just don't see what evidence suggests he would be.

Okay...heres the deal....I'd rather have Gruden than Miles but I miss RR...Gruden because he would oddveiously atract kids because they would want the NFL experince, and he a hard nose type with great moxie, Miles is okay cause he knows the College game, and he's has expericne in the "Mich" tradition....bottom line get some body in the place now!!!! we pay money for alumni, get yur asses in gear!!!!
