Steve Sarkisian shows how USC cheats

Submitted by you little jerk on
"The University of Washington announced that it would self-report to the Pacific 10 Conference two secondary violations of NCAA rules, which occurred during a football recruiting meeting that was detailed in a story by The Times on Wednesday. It is the second time in as many weeks that Washington will have self-reported a violation committed by new Coach Steve Sarkisian, USC's former offensive coordinator." read the rest here http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-spw-washington-football30-2009jan30,0,… I wonder if the Times reported this to protect home town USC because you can bet that USC probably had many "chance" meetings with recruits outside of school. Sark was just doing what USC probably always did but the TIMES outed him.

I still want to know why nothing happened with USC when that book came out about Reggie Bush's family getting a house and other stuff while in school. I mean if we can get screwed from the Webber stuff shouldn't they get screwed as well?

I am not saying what we did was right, because obviously, but if we get our program pretty much dismantled for more than a decade why do they get to keep on trucking like nothing ever happened? I will never understand this and it seems really dirty. It might have something to do with the fact that their media tries to protect them while ours tries to tear us apart.

Is to protect college schools and the money machine they have due to college football and basketball. It's in their interest to make sure those schools do not get punished and thus they will move very slowly before they maim the golden goose.

I heard a guy on ESPN radio (might have been McShay) say that he's all but guilty but it has to go through the process and unless huge glaring new evidence comes up, it will take awhile. "The NCAA, making Congress look like Nascar"

...might be that Webber, et al. ended up having to testify in a case, whereas Bush hasn't had to testify in court. That said, I can't remember when the case happened that Webber and co. testified in and when the NCAA handed down its punishments.

The NCAA investigated us twice in basketball. The first one wrapped up in 1997 with the NCAA report concluding that while money may have changed hands, not much could be proven. Then a few years later, after the FBI went after Ed Martin and the players had to testify, the NCAA reopened the case and handed down its punishments. So yeah, I think your point is pretty accurate. The main problem with the NCAA's rule-compliance wing is that it lacks any real teeth.

In LA, the local newscasts love to run puff pieces about Pete Carroll's famous midnight forays into the hood. Google Pete Carroll & Ghetto and you can read many articles on the subject. I'm sure many 'secondary' violations have occurred.

Not so much. Go here http://www.lamag.com/article.aspx?id=6918 and read #2: "Next we drive to the Jordan Downs housing projects, one of the most dangerous places in L.A. We find a craps game raging between the main buildings. Forty young men huddle in the dark, a different sort of huddle from the ones Carroll typically supervises. They are smoking, cursing, shoving, intent on the game, but most fall silent and come to attention as they realize who’s behind them. Pete Carroll, someone whispers. Pete Carroll? The most famous sports figure in the city, excluding Kobe Bryant? (Maybe including Bryant.) Pete Carroll, mentor to Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush, LenDale White—here? A sweet-faced teen named Jerome steps away from the game. He stares at Carroll, shakes his head as if to clear it. He says the same thing over and over. Pete Carroll in the ghetto. Man, this is crazy. Pete Carroll—in the ghetto! Crazy."

I think you missed the point. I was simply trying to show that "patently offensive" was not the intent. *He actually goes in to the ghetto late at night*. I was basically being a Carroll-hater (no, not because he goes to dangerous places to try and be a positive influence) as I hate USC and like to take shots at both. Since you seem a bit sensitive when it comes to PCAD laws (Pete Carroll Anti-Defamation), how about an edit: "When Pete Carroll goes on his afternoon forays in to preppy catholic schools, I'm sure many 'secondary' violations have occurred." I left the ghetto out of it for you.

Well, no. That's disingenuous of you. When you say that when he goes to the ghetto, many recruiting violations occur, the implication is that he's recruiting when he goes there. Now, is Compton lily-white? No, not really. If you fail to see the difference in racial implications between saying "the ghetto" and "preppy catholic school", you're dimmer than I think you are.

I'm over it. You're right, man. I am wrong. You clearly had your mind made up when you picked a bone, and there's no sense in trying to further explain my intent and drill home the notion that quite often, especially in an internet sports forum, people can misconstrue intent. Perhaps I should have just posted a link and written "damnpetecarrollhasnofear!," but I made my attempt at clarification and that is that. In no way demonstrate how USC cheats. He is the head coach of, say it with me now, "University of Washington." Simply because he came from USC does not mean that he is running things how they ran them.

But I think the point is that I seriously doubt this is the first time he "accidentally" had inappropriate contact with a recruit (wow, that reads like a police blotter) twice in a few weeks. All people are saying is that, coupled with the Reggie Bush fiasco and various other rumblings that have been made about Carroll and his staff, perhaps their recruiting might not be on the up-and-up all the time (which would make it like virtually every other program in America). The think that bugs people like me, though, is that certain schools are raked over the coals every time they are caught (like the LA Times running this story for a school it doesn't even cover), while others are basically given a free pass.

Because of the revelations of recruiting violations committed by one Steve Sarkisian, "THE KNOWLEDGE" is, at this very moment, on the floor, curled up in the fetal position and sobbing uncontrollably.
