Steelers have claimed former Michigan QB - and ever so briefly Patriots WR - Devin Gardner off waivers, per @FieldYates.

Thank you. Not that anyone on this site already isn't...but follow Adam Schefter. In addition to being the best source for NFL everything, he shows his maize and blue side and always breaks anything UM-related.
For the "Harbaugh is staying where he belongs in the NFL!" line he kept promoting right up until the day Harbaugh showed up at a press conference in A2?
no we do not.
Dude's got to report what his sources give him, and he's got to pump the tires of his employer's biggest money maker.
I'm sure personally Schefter is happy that Harbaugh is in AA, but professionally he had to spin the story he was given and the story ESPN wanted on the airwaves
But he was pushing that crap when Harbaugh was already on the ground at Metro.
Who in their right mind would have thought that JH would have flown all the way here, with his family, just to fuck us and take a job in the NFL?
Gotta have Mr. Cameltoe photo....
Schefty knew what the actual story was. In one of his interviews, he even said he wanted Harbaugh at Ann Arbor citing his UM lineage etc.
He just had to report what he had in front of him via his NFL sources.
I'll cut him a break.
So actually you're saying Schefter is a patently unethical journalist who whores for the NFL?
People use to quit when told what to report and from what view point. It use to be that the ethics of journalism was to report the story, not report the narative that you are told to because polls want it that way or to improve the bottom line. Worse yet the puppet masters behind politics.
Adam who????
That is a question I've wrestled with myself. Those folks pissed me off to no end, but Adam is too plugged in to too many sources to have really believed that. I choose to believe he was just trying not to hurt UM's chances by saying too much too soon. That may just be my maize glasses though.
Being loyal to the end. Or as much of an end as landing at the airport seems not to be.
There is no doubting his NFL credentials but he spoke at the Michigan Chicago Club and made it pretty clear that he isn't exactly a rabid fan. When asked how closely he follows the team he said something to the effect of "I watch when I can, but if I can't I'm not that upset about it."
that's what she and half of the fan base said since 2008 (excl. 2011 Sugar Bowl team)
gets an upvote from me every time. :)

Hines Ward was a HS QB, college RB and turned into a very productive receiver in Pittsburgh. Hope it works out for Devin!
Ward also holds a few bowl game records in passing for Georgia. Also of note is Antwaan Randle El, who was an Indiana QB turned successful NFL QB with Pittsburgh.
Randle El was a WR in the NFL
Randle El is nothing like Devin Gardner, it's a terrible example. He was a 2nd round pick out of IU after being used as a QB, WR, RB and kick returner and doing them all really well.
Absolutely turrible example
Since i'm a steeler fan thats great news I hope me gets a chance. plus Mr Rooney and the steelers organization is one of the top notch team in the NFL.
Best of both worlds for me...Steeler fan (grew up there) and Michigan fan!
I hate the Steelers, but this is probably one of the best places DG could've landed. One of the best organizations in all of sports.

And speaking of Foote & Woodley, they're together again with the Cardinals. Was disappointed to see Foote was cut, until I discovered Foote's been hired as an ass't coach (linebackers). Still thinks he can play, and if he gets healthy and they need depth, he may try to get back on the roster. But can't do both per NFL rules, and so far he seems to be really enjoying the coaching thing.
Maybe should be a separate post...
I haz a happee

I mean it's okay that you're salty since Momma Koala got ran over by a car.
What happened to Papa Koala?
It was a train car. Thank you for validating my saltiness
I was hoping he'd get claimed by Philly & they'd work him as an Chip Kelly QB. Actually teach him to read a defense & he's behind Bradford on IR, Sanchize, & a fullback who thinks Jesus told him to QB?
Steelers is a good place though. They know how to develop WR's too...
This is great news for a classy Michigan Man, just hope he can stick and make the final roster!
Yes, but No to this Gif
What do you not like about the gif? Was this man mean to a Koala family member???
YEAH! Go Devin!

I'm not a Steelers fan but I could never root against a guy like DG. I hope the best for him.
Was nervous for him at the Pats when I saw he still hadn't been given a roster number as of Sunday. Had read a local column (possibly even on the Pats website) only a day or two before saying the Pats had enough WRs, knew he'd be a project, but couldn't count on bringing him back to the practice squad if they cut him. They were right. He was picked up immediately, by a team that isn't such a tease with Michigan players (see Gallon and Cam Gordon; three in two years).
But Randle El played WR his senior year in college and looked far better at it than we have ever seen Gardner look. Gardner appears to be a great person and I would love to see him succeed in the NFL, but he never looked good at WR and I suspect that is a large part of why the Patriots did not keep him on the 90 man roster after the initial practices.
Patriots had better options or were full up at WR. Gardner needs to make a practice squad, needs a full year as that at WR. Then we'll know if he can play.
He's got the physical tools and the work ethic. That can take him a long way. I agree in principle: the NFL is for the elite, even the worst receivers catch everything. But if he can latch on this first year he can give it a go. Even if he bombs out of the NFL, he can go CFL or other semi-pro league, learn to be a WR, and come back. Football dream isn't over for that kid for at least a year or two.
Randle El had 7 receptions in his college career.

What a steal.
