The State Of Our Open Threads: After Utah

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

Yeah, we're going to do this to respect the science of our anger.

Some unique things definitely happened to out open threads this weekend.

First and foremost, for sheer thread volume, yesterday's threads - first and second half - beat out last year's Penn State threads - by 290 posts. Yesterday's threads topped out at 2,422 total posts. Second, for the first time since I began doing this last season, "shit" was the most popular tracked word for a game. It was "fire" during the Miami (OH) game, as you might recall, but every time before that, it had been "fuck". The blog's gameplan is definitely changing with recent developments.

So, let's talk some "shit" for a moment - even accounting for instances where it was in someone's signature line or otherwise not game-related, we still came up with 182 posts of "shit" in some form. That beat out the 90 fucks (rather, "adjusted fucks", which again means sig lines and other items were removed). The third place winner this was was actually "ass" - 66 instances, and that's adjusting for instances were "ass" is part of a larger word. "Shit fuck ass" is a cadence I don't think we've quite had to date.

What do the yearly totals look like right now?

"Fuck" doesn't have nearly the lead it did last year, so we are opening ourselves up to alternative ways to express our collective dissatisfaction. Of course, I did promise the return of the Mood Chart because at four games, we can take a preliminary look at how we feel about the season:

Well, we liked the Appalachian State game anyway, at least in comparison to everything else. What has happened here is that the size of the Utah threads has skewed this a bit, but it does put Utah squarely in "Anger". It is interesting that it now frames our feelings towards ND as a bit apathetic, and Miami (OH)? Apparnetly, "Meh" in the final analysis to date.

Even if the rest of the season goes OK, I very much doubt Utah moves much from its current position near 2013 PSU and Iowa would have fallen, for those inspired some genuine rage as well.

It is actually, and what I am doing here is reporting the raw data for the game - because there was no liveblog, I actually have the tab for this game highlight and with notes on it for that reason. To not have a liveblog is a rare thing, and I want to tag these to see what the effect is as I am not sure how to modify it or what the modifying factor might be.

It's sad really that how to account for that was my primary concern during the weather delay.

This is normally cute, but right now I can't stand looking at it.That's why I punished myself by clicking the thread anyways. It reminds me of all the fucks and shits I would have said if I was posting....

I posted this in the full realization it would get some blowback this week for various reasons, which is quite understandable. For myself, it's catharsis as I think my core frustration is similar to many others, right now the "shits" and "fucks" I put out there myself. I suppose this is my odd way of dealing with those feelings.

the fan base's determination to 'Hold the Rope'. I have no data to support this statement apart from one man who sat a couple rows behind me that just seemed to vocalize that sort of disappointment/frustration. I think this is a good thing.

Michigan's fanbase could possibly be one of the worst fan bases in college football. When I leave the game after a loss I don't look forward to coming on to the blog at all. I hate coming to see the constant fire Hoke comments. In eight years the fan base has called for the heads of three coaches now. Some don't realize that Hoke is not going anywhere because of the contract of him Greg and Nuss. There is no way they're going to fire that many coaches with that much salary that the university would have to pay out. Also, while still paying Borges' out. I learned a long time ago that just because another person and I cheer for the same team does not mean that I will like that individual. The Mgoboard is definitely reminding me of that of late. I'm still a huge supporter of Hoke.
