I'm curious, and not trying to be a dick, but I can't figure out how a Michigan fan can root for any team from Columbus? I started playing hockey about six months ago and also started watching at the same time. I have been trying to choose a team to root for and since I live in Cincinnati most of my friends urge me to follow the Jackets but I can't do it. I graduated from Michigan in '03 and just can't get myself to root for the Jackets.

I seem to remember Stevie being too afraid to get into any aggression and had to have his butt buddy McCarty do it for him. Crosby is going to go down as 5 times the player those two dorks ever will

McCarty, sure...but not Yzerman. Cindy cannot even be talked about in the same discussion as Steve. Yzerman is recognized as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. Crosby? Not so much. Obviously Cindy still has to finish his career, but he won't have the accolades that Steve does.

What does Steve have on Crosby? The two more Cups and a Conn Smythe? Y has never won a Hart Trophy, nor Art Ross. It also took him until he was 31 years old to win his first Cup.

To say he will never achieve the same level of success and Y is silly. He already is, and to some degree, having more individual success.

Considering Crosby is ahead of Stevie on titles at age 26, and has another 5 years until they're tied up(if Pittsburgh doesn't win again in the next 5 years), I don't think he's trading anything yet.

And I have my doubts he'd trade his two gold medals for them, either.

He went to two Olympics as a player.  Won in Salt Lake City, and finished 4th in Japan.  Lost the bronze medal game to Finland.

Douchebags don't start charities at the age of 22 that helps sick children and give back to the community, either.  Or makes hospital visits.  Or helps with the special olympics, or organize charity games.

Anyways, I am not taking anything away from Captain Y.  He was a great player, and is a very good executive to boot.  But the hate on here for Crosby is just borderline unhealthy.  If you took everything in this thread as a fact then you would think he was the worst player ever, and the worst person ever.

Well, he was The Captain for 23 seasons, serving longer than any other captain in North American major league sports history.

He actually holds the record for 3rd most points scored in a season (155, bettered only by Lemieux and Gretzky).

He would have likely won many more individual accolades had Scotty Bowman not made him focus on his leadership and defensive game (and had he not been playing with Sergei Federov in his prime).

I don't think there's a player out there that would trade a Cup for a Hart trophy, so those three Stanley's loom large for Yzerman.

Also Sidney's grown up a bit, but he WAS pretty damn whiny (as voted by other players, even), and had a bad habit of laying cheap shots and diving. He's clearly immensely talented. But he stole a gold medal from USA and a cup from the Red Wings, so to hell with the bastard.

As far as winning Hart trophies, and the Art Ross trophy, Stevie just plain got screwed timewise. Essentially the first half of his career he was playing at the same time as arguably two of the best players in NHL history (also, he won the Ted Lindsay award in '89, so NHL players thought he was on/near the same level as Mario and Gretzky)

Then when he's in a situation to take over for them, the Wings Bowman, who wants his forwards to backcheck a lot more. It paid off for the Wings, but it definitely hurt Stevie's stats

If you actually knew shit about hockey, you'd know Probert was Yzerman's "protector" first.

RIP

Yzerman never got involved.  Even during the Avs-Wings brawls he was off on the side talking with Sakic.  Crosby's issue is that he gets involved and then runs away.

As for you negativity about Yzerman, kindly go fuck yourself.

I'm referring to calling college athletes pussies, as he's done on different occasions, in basketball game threads.

Calling a paid professional pussy a pussy is not a bannable offense.  Making the world aware of universal truths, such as Sidney Crosby being a pussy or that allegedly, of course, CRAIG JAMES MURDERED 5 HOOKERS, should be encouraged.

So you type "Calling a paid professional pussy a pussy is not a bannable offense."

Yet in the previous post, you type "Dragging Yzerman and Lidstrom into the mix in such a fashion? Comon now."

And in another post "As for you negativity about Yzerman, kindly go fuck yourself."

Have some consistency, at least.  If you can't take the heat of your poor wittle Red Wings greats getting bashed, then I guess you shouldn't be calling out other players.  Can't take the heat?  Get out of the kitchen.

Those two are universally considered class acts by anyone who has crossed their paths. It's just a simple fact. Bashing Detroit legends on a blog with mostly Detroit isn't going to earn you much especially when it's two all time greats. Both are revered by their peers, Crosby, not so much. My position is very consistent.

Crosby isn't revered by his peers?  He won the Pearson/Lindsay award twice(and probably will get his third this year), which is voted on by the players for who they feel is the most outstanding player, and won the Messier Leadership award.  He earned the C on Team Canada, which either Y or Babcock gave to him.

Just because fans don't like him, doesn't mean he isn't revered/respected by his peers.
