Spring Game to be at 6pm; Gentry to TE full-time, Khalid Hill at FB

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

At Harbaugh's signing earlier at MDen, he said the spring game would be played at 6pm on Friday, April 1st. I realize I already created a thread on the spring game being April 1 but the time was not announced yet and that is a pretty key detail for a Friday game.

EDIT: also appears he's having a presser now.

Khalid Hill is going to work at fullback. Zach Gentry will stay at TE

Harbaugh said Mason Cole will get work at center right away when spring starts. Peppers is full go.

Harbaugh says all the early enrollees are doing well. He singled out Carlo Kemp: 'He looks like he's been here for years.'

Go back and look at the UFR's and game film. Hill run blocked quite well and caught just about everything that came his way. Remeber the double fake screen against BYU?  Can't remember any drops either.  I imagine he'll be deployed more in the Poggi style of FB rather than a Houma/Kerridge type. I think he'll be immensely effective there. And he can always still take snaps at TE as neccessary for depth or, even better, deception.  This offense is going to be fun to watch.

My do people like to complain. It's never convenient for somebody, but I'm guessing they've looked into the timing and feel this is the best chance to have a fun atmosphere for what is basically a scrimmage.

You had to figure someone was gonna make a switch to FB since Poggi was the only returning player with experience. Winovich (TE) and Shallman (RB) seemed to also make some sense but I'm glad it's a senior in Hill. I assume that he and Poggi split time like Kerridge and Houma last year until one of them asserts themselves.

Does anyone know if any of the walk-ons are contenders for playing time? On the current (pre-spring) roster Nick Volk and Deyanco Hardwick are listed and seem to have the necessary size.

It'll be interesting to watch the TE depth chart play out. After Butt it now seems pretty wide open but I suppose this move wouldn't happen if the talent weren't there.

With Hill, we need more help at FB than TE at this point.  And with Gentry, QB is pretty stacked and the kid looks like a great athlete.

Lets hope Gentry becomes the next Reimersma and Hill the next Aaron Shea.

I remember Gentry's HS tape and he out ran a lot of guys at what, 6'7" or 6'8"?

A lot of potential there for sure.

A bulldozing fullback blowing up linebackers,  yeah, I'll take that any day with

whomever gets the most snaps.

Harbaughs gotta make that position so fun to play,  I can't

wait for the Spring Game.  Enough Jibber Jabber about

the day and time.  Take a vacation day/ sick day if it

doesn't agree with anybody's ideal time and

simmer down.  Or at least get some cheese

with that whine.

A few recruits last year talked about how they liked the atmosphere at the big house in april. I don't think it led to their commitment or anything but I don't know what the downside of making it a big event like the signing of the stars is.

Same thing with facilities and signing of the stars. Nobody actually commits because of it but all the little things make for a better visit experience. If it didn't matter at all schools wouldn't be building state of the art football buildings and promoting their sprng game.
