Sparty Spring Game on BTN.

Submitted by MichiganMan14 on
Good opportunity to check out little brother. Sparty looks pretty formidable up front defensively but will be green in the defensive backfield. They will have solid qb playand some explosive recievers. I think we really need to take this rivalry this season before their confidence grows even more. Sparty has already seen spikes in recruiting.

Patch design being indentical to Michigan's design they used (they didn't even wear a patch this year) isn't a coincidence.

Why can't they just get a life and leave us alone? They won the Rose Bowl and still seem to care so deeply about a team that has lost two straight restaurant bowls.

Little Brother will neber get old.  Staee will never get old.  Would you have us refer to them as "THE Michigan State Spartans"?  Or perhaps maybe "Our Lords"?  No.  Little Brother refers to their mindset.  They could go 10-0 against us the next decade and the chip would still be on their shoulder.  The inferiority complex is not going anywhere, nor is their fear of our inevitable rise.

Agreed 1000% Unofortunately, We have a lot of closet Spartans on this board.

Nope.

Watching the Tigers leading the Twins (Detroit leading 2-0 in the bottom of the 3rd right now) and watching the Red Wings at the Bruins at 3pm are much higher priorities.

...In what type of team MSU will have this fall despite them being on our side of the B1G and our in state rival. It's not like we have been beating them with any regularity on the football field lately. Maybe you should care less about taking shots and moreabout keeping up with what's going on around Michigan sports.

I agree that the little brother stuff has been lame for several years, but why is a post about the spring game of one of our biggest rivals so much more ridiculous than the weekly what are you drinking post?

The whole Little Brother thing was a response to Mark Dantonio calling for a moment of silence during Michigan's upset to App State. Was it an unnecessary comment by Hart? Yes Was he and other Michigan players alone in their jabbing? No

Have had more success recently obviously and they have a better coaching staff IMO but what they don't have is UM's resources, facilities, brand and tradition. We'll be kicking their asses soon enough with or without coach Hoke.

I'm not a fan of the little brother referral but don't get the outlash of the OP for making this thread. I think how a big In-state rival does is important and I was looking forward to more comments on the game and the outlook of the sparties

I should 've just called them Staee...... Anyway....The game was decent and showed that Sparty has good overall depth and some very solid athletes. Connor Cook looks high risk high reward and Calhoun looks like a faster Gholston...destroying the left tackle time and time again. Several D linemen stood out to me and Sparty will go very deep at receiver. We have our work cut out and the biggest challenge is that Sparty believes they are elite now. Confidence is a big plus for them as they have always had a bit of a complex.

Watched some of the 1st half.  Their D line looks really good, especially their DEs, some Cooper guy looks like he might be good.  Other than that, meh, it wasn't that impressive.

Thought their D line was really good, secondary was really good, LBs, meh.  O line, meh.  Receivers, TEs, and QBs looked pretty good.

Guess they had 35,000 fans there.  Whatever.

give um credit. i dont think I have missed a Spring practice. Problem is, we have too many fans that only support when the team is winning. I would say look in the mirror and check yourself. I know better fans that shop at Walmart. Fact.

Support their team? Even last season they weren't selling out home games. I live in Michigan and there have been a lot of people jumping on the MSU bandwagon the last couple of years. It is a total joke. Let's wait and see if they can sell out games this year before claiming MSU has better fans.

Did not watch but saw this on the twitterverse - Yay! Awesome news.  Blah.

@AllenTrieu: After today's visit to #MichiganState, DE Jashon Cornell says the Spartans are #1 on his list

Also that "Cooper" kid is their RS FR next Calhoun, a 3 star of course; a guy UM gave up on when he got injured in HS.  He has supposedly been their most impactful guy in spring practice after he went from 198 lbs to 245 in one offseason.

They are starting to put together a crew of 4 stars (and now 5 with MM) on their DL and they already were developing their 3 stars into impact players.  Dantonio is to defense what Beilein is to wings/guards.  They have 2 guys projected to go in the first round next year off the defense, one a 2 star and one a 3 star.... after this year's 2 star 1st round pick.  Just our luck that in the sport early development means you get to see a player for 2 years we have the staff, and in the sport early development means you get to keep them for 4 years (as they redshirt almost everyone) they have the staff.

Wake me up when someone who does not wear Maize and Blue glasses thinks UM has a legitimate chance to beat Sparty in Spartan Stadium 3 times in a 5 game series. Hell I'd take 2 at this point.

I have some respect for what their team has become, and although I can't stand Dantonio, he is doing some things there that are worthy of respect.  It's their fans that I will never ever be able to abide.  Just the worst bunch of cretans on the planet and I have to deal with them all the time.

As far as Cornell...

“I noticed that defense is all world and I see myself playing in that defense in the future,” Cornell said.

Freaking great. :(

Yep it sucks.  Don't think the UM fanbase who moved / live out of state realize how difficult this is if you have Sparties around you daily with the football program like this and MSU turning into Wisconsin of our backyard.  I imagine if I lived in California or Texas it would just really suck hard core one day a year.  Has become insufferable....

As for Cornell, welp we are at the stage you root for Notre Dame to win his talents over MSU.  Good times.

and do you know what sucks hard core?  The number of alleged Michigan fans that have given up.  The ones that refuse to look at 2011 except as an anomaly and see 2013 as the new norm.  But it gets better, or worse depending on your POV, many alleged Michigan fans, many on this blog site, have openly suggested that a winning season is absolutely the worst outcome for the Michigan football program.  Now that is sucking off Long Dong Silver through an exhaust pipe hard core.
