While that's certainly possible -- a night game in the desert was never going to be an easy task -- they've looked really, really bad two weeks in a row.  They certainly may improve, but if they don't figure out their issues in the secondary, they're going to have a long season.

Add in the fact that the herbstreit wannabe mcelroy made the comment more than once that msu is a possible playoff team.  "They brought back 19 starters....." 8-4 would not be a good look nationally for sparty.  Wait,  actually,  never mind, no one nationally cares about sparty. They could be 12-1 or 3-9 and sign the same top 50 recruiting class, and garner ZERO attention.

Sparty was over-rated.

They should be 0-2.

Michigan rolls either of these teams (Sparty Super Bowl be damned)

I guess Tom Izzo didn't really help, either, although he can help them talk about taking bullets after this loss...

Scrolled by RCMB to see the backlash. Theyre tacking it pretty well. One guy said AZ State and Utah State will both be top 25 teams by the time the season ends.

To be fair, I think he said "could be".  I could see asu finishing there if their QB becomes more consistent. They do have some talent.

However, I live 30 min from USU and can tell you no one in Utah thinks they can even sniff the top 25.

Similar sentiments were prominent here after we played Cincy and Air Force last year. They finished a combined 9-15.

msu is legitimately struggling. If Indiana can knock them off their next game the wheels are officially coming off. Go Hoosiers!

MSU has much worse o-line problems than Michigan right now.

Teal ribbon gang generated only 63 yards of net rushing against ASU.  ASU does not have an elite front 7.

MSU passing game is decent, but so far their offense is one dimensional.

This is an awesome comment.

It also shows why stats such as “we are 9-9 over the last 18 (pre-yesterday),” are silly. It all depends where you choose to start your sample. Go back a season further and harbaugh’s record looks better. Start the Dentonio sample a season later (to exclude 2016) and he looks better.

The rational side of my brain says that Sparty had a hard time with the late night game time and the heat.  The football side of the brain says that their practice time this week was divided.  5% Arizona State preparation, 95% preparation for Michigan

B1G teams drop to 0-10 all-time in non-conference games at Arizona State.

And that 0-10 record includes some good teams.  It's just a spot where it's tough to win.

I went to bed after the 1st quarter ended.  Colorado beating Scott Frost was awesome but otherwise, waaaaay too many bitch teams won yesterday.  And I wasn't going to take the chance of seeing it happen once more.

If me not watching helped in any way, I'll try to miss more MSU games.

How would Bizarro Nick Sheridan spin this:

"Since embarrassing themselves, college football, and the entire State of Michigan against Alabama in 2015, the Dantonio-led Spartans have gone 14-13.

This, obviously, is on Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio. His preparation failed. His changes have yet to work. And his continued recruitment of felons, sexual deviants and racist half-wits has led to predictable results.

Overall, MSU made mistakes that it can, presumably, clean up. My gut says the defense will play better.

And State showed some life in the third quarter.

But that offensive line is beyond troubling.

And the lack of explosive plays is beyond concerning.

On this night, it looked a lot like the last two seasons.

When the Spartans went 13-12.

And that’s on Dantonio."

Wow, that was easy!  it's almost like I just lifted entire sections of the Free Press, and substituted in "Dantonio" and "MSU"!

One could have predicted the temp of that game 50 years ago. September highs in Phoenix average 100 degrees, but honestly, the hot desert heat is much more sufferable than the hot humid temps in the southeast (even in Michigan during recent heat waves) this time of the year. It’s the sun that can be the scorcher in the desert, and that looked light a night game to me.

At any rate, Sparty citing “heat” as their excuse is plain BS. I’m pretty sure both teams always play in the same weather conditions, regardless of what they may be.

Herm already has more wins than I thought he would have before I expected him to be inevitably fired.

His team came to win the game. Good job Herm!

O great. Now they have one of those early meaningless losses that can "bring the team together" so they can feast on the chips of disrespkt that you clowns will serve endlessly as Herm Edwards Meme's.

Awesome

MSU just did this so when we beat them it wouldn’t end the losing games against ranked teams on the road streak. They out here just doing what they can to fuck Michigan

Had buddies in town from MSU and picked up a cheap ticket to the game with their group.  There were quite a few spartys in town so the stadium was full and suprisingly loud for a change, almost as loud as the annual Territorial Cup (UofA vs ASU).  Our seats backed up to a concrete partition that was radiating 100 degree heat even with the sun down so it was brutal.   Live, it was clear MSU has O line issues along w us so should be interesting and if it comes down to strength of defenses, should be a walk for us.
