Sparty Hate Thread (Day 1)

Submitted by jsquigg on

Hopefully no one has started something similar, but this is the place for your Spartan hate mail.  Any stories about why you can't stand the green and white or their mascot or their ever changing tradition.

Half of my family (roughly) are Spartan fans.  I have no problem with any of my family regarding fandom.  The rivalry only gets as intense as teasing, plus I can't blame them since they live near Lansing and some have/are working for MSU.  Unfortunately almost all of the non-family MSU fans I know are the exact opposite.  It's gotten much worse since Dantonio came to town.  Before, MSU fans just rooted against Michigan.  Now they have a sense of entitlement.  It's gotten to the point where I can't wear my M gear (at least half of my wardrobe which I wear religiously, even when times have been down) without running into some sort of unprovoked conflict.

At least Buckeyes have their own state.  I'm sick of stupid arguments over our unethical coach, our quiet stadium, the fact that we only win because of our quarterback, etc.  I normally wouldn't promote harsh language at all (I don't judge), but I seriously hope the Wolverines beat the shit out of Sparty on Saturday.  Win by any means, but please Rich, don't miss out on any opportunities to run it up as classy as possible.

Please share your own Sparty hate stories below.

I am 34. I have witnessed a lot of MSU vs UM games in my life but I have NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER (Need bigger caps)  wanted a win over them as bad as I want this one. I am sure thats most die hard Michigan Football fans right now.

You captured my feelings exactly. Sparty has put the big red x on their backs with the passive aggressive whining, and are the hunted. I sense this group of Michigan players is ready and they are going to bring an unreal group energy to this one.

I hate that this game has become the fight to be Big Brother for the next 365 days.  My first recollection of MSU being called Little Brother was 2003 in the Dueling Sports Editor pieces in the Daily.  How far off am I?  Obviously it was made well known by Mike Hart, when did this really start being used?

I saw Desmond Howard say it live in Michigan Stadium the day before Braylon's hat trick. He said, I'm paraphrasing, that MSU is like the little brother that chases you around and tries to climb on you and you have to constantly flick him off of you. He went on to emphasize the big 2 and the little 8. The problem is that it was a taping of Cold Pizza and obviously nobody gives a crap about that show. There was also a Bubba Paris sighting in that episode.

* Fixation with the 300 is tiresome. And they all friggin died, no?

* Focus of Sparty on "academic excellence."  Laughable.

* Damn St. Dantonio Iconography. What has he done? Seriously.

We must pummel these f****ers senseless. I am already mad as hell.

on I-75, I was walking back to my car. I'm decked out in Michigan gear. The guy parked next to me points to a Sparty hat. I roll down my window, and he loudly exclaims "your defense is like a bowling ball rolling down a hill." I responded that so is our offense, good luck stopping Denard and drove away.

heres the thing. i want this win as bad as the next guy, but both sides are kinda at fault about the whole past/present thing. when we talk about the past, we are talking about when they were rebuilding...or rather still building lol. but then we say they cant talk about now because we are rebuilding..just hypocrasy on both sides. i prefer to wait for the game rather than talking smack and risking looking like a dumbass come saturday. imo. and im pulling for denard to drop 1000 total yards this week. i hate the dbs at spartan stadium that are 50 years old trying to start cheers. i hate the ignorant state fans, and i hate how the players on their team can get arrested and still play, but i kno quite a few spartans who arent douches :/ continue with the spartan hate

Someone!  Put dreads on the Sparty Statue and include a sign: Denard was here.  Or use this idea to build off for something better.

I can still hear the "GO GREEN - GO WHITE" chant echoing through Michigan stadium on their last trip to the Big House. Those sounds torment me every day, and my soul turns to venom.

I was raised a MSU fan but somewhere inside of my small head as a young child I realized that I was a Michigan fan and I wanted nothing else.  I still would root for MSU when they were not play Michigan and had a lot for friends that went to MSU or played previously for MSU basketball team,  even got into MSU (didn't go).  This has changed for many reasons including

1) Kicked out of a sponsors tent during MSU vs. UM (at MSU) because I had on my Michigan shirt and there were alumni in there that asked me to leave

2) It seems MSU loves the kick us while we are down mentality and believe that tradition has nothing to do with anything.

3) Thinks they are a superior program

4) Obsession with all things UM

5) The term Walmart Wolverine -  ,just dumb

Needless to say UM nation my eyes have opened for me and I give MSU a congrats on jumping over ND on my hate list of teams.

when i lived in oakland county, i was partners with two other guys in a business.  one lived in battle creek.  the other lived in e. lansing and was a Spartan alum (an intense one).  he bought one of those white lincloln town cars they sold up there that had the green Spartan helmet on the front quarter panel where the Lincoln symbol normally would be.  he actually drove it to client meetings and showed it off to customers.  so fucking embaressing.

They think our stadium is quiet? Ok, we'll see. I've never heard anyone say Spartan stadium was loud. Plus they complain that our stadium doesn't have enough room? It's because you can't sell out even for Wisconsin and therefore have more room for their fat asses.

I hate how having a thread that talks about Michigan State causes Google Ads to put a bunch of Michigan State related ads on the page, and then I puke and poop at the same time.

After graduating from Michigan, I'm now a first year law student at MSU.  As difficult as it has been, I have limited my wearing of Michigan gear typically just to Fridays before a game.  Granted, I usually don't go anywhere on campus except to the law school and back, but I've only been called out once for my Michigan apparel.  This week, though, I plan to rock the Michigan gear every day.

Nothing would make me happier than kicking their ass this weekend, and watching sparty mope around campus for the rest of the fall.  Go Blue!

I just click on my signature. I get a smirk on my face like I just shit on my Sparty neighbor's porch. Then I youtube Braylon beats MSU.  That usually helps whenever my blood starts boiling.

Most of my family went to State, whereas I went to Michigan, so I have to hear about MSU constantly.

Also: I have an ex who went to MSU.  I made an effort to visit her every other weekend, I really did, but when my car was covered with Michigan paraphenalia, it made it a bit difficult.  That's not why we broke up, but every time I entered East Lansing, it just made me sick.

In general: they have one of the worst schools in the Big Ten, and are proud of it.  As far as athletics go, I've never seen a fanbase boast about so little accomplished.

Go Blue.

been able to understand lil' bro's fanatical desire for mediocrity. 6-6 and Motor City Bowl? Sparty On! Time to torch some furniture. The inferiority complex/jealousy thing has gotten very old. Their grotesque color scheme, their off-field extracurricular activities and their obsession with Michigan are all to be hated. Not to mention the fact that they're not exactly an academic powerhouse. In the 2011 US News rankings, Sparty is the lowest rated Big 10 school at 34th for public universities, (79th overall). Compare with Big Brother - Michigan is 4th among public universities and 29th overall.  We MUST beat them.

Even if little brother pulls out a win on Saturday, the great thing is, they're still little brother. We're still the better school, the better education, the better athletic department, the better facilities, the better college town, the better fan base, the better traditions, the WAY better fight song, the better band, the better helmets, the better pretty much everything.

So, I am the only REAL Wolverine out of most people I know (excluding my Dad, but that's it)

This thread has made me so fucking pumped for next weekend. I am so pissed right now just after reading this. Last year I was just in a rage over the game, The Spartans I was with were just in joy and I wanted to rip their heads off. I will be screaming my lungs out at the game and giving every Spartan fan I see, if there are any, tons of shit.

RR, if you ever read this, please, please, please, DESTROY THEM. IT'S FOR MY SANITY.

Because 10/25 of the threads on the front page of RCMB right now are about Michigan. 11 if you count the one that someone started about who won't be ranked in the 25 at the end of the season that is now because obviously all of them said Michigan.

I hope you don't mind but I added another. Rich is the opposite of dumb. He knows this program beats it's rivals or it is failing.  Starting saturday when we'll do it with a gun that is no where near as loaded as it will be in a couple years.

We need to win this game and then just walk out of the stadium like it was no big deal.  Thats what would piss State off the most.  I go to UofM and have literally around 50 kids from my graduating class who go to MSU and all they ever do is talk about how much better than us they are.  We need to get back to the old Michigan football where we really couldn't give 2 shits about MSU.  Every year whether they beat us or not, they fall apart after the Michigan game because thats all they care about.  If Dantonio went 1-11 every year but beat us, he'd still have his job because nobody in east lansing has a clue that the rest of the country knows that he is a mediocre coach at best

just today I was wearing my Michigan pull-over when I went to pick up a pizza for dinner tonight.

The guy behind the counter looked at me and stated "Hey your a Michigan fan...Huh?  Why not Michigan State?  That is 'Where its at right now'."

Literally a million things ran through my mind at that moment...

1) Hmmm.... How much of a idiot are you.  I am wearing a MICHIGAN jacket!  So yeah I am a Michigan fan.

2) You are the one standing behind the pizza counter serving me.  Oh the multiple ironies behind that.

3) If 'Where its at right now' means computer lap top black market rings and alledge sexual assualt cases ignored.... I'll pass thank-you...

Instead I just looked at him and said, "No, I don't think so."

End of discussion, he went back into the kitchen and never came back.  I got my pizza from the nice young lady also standing there and left.

Spartan ignorance is blind.  Combine that with their false bravado makes them just plain annoying.

Its been 25 years since I was in college.  Competed athletically back then.  Even had the opportunity to see inside both Athletic Departments then.  The stark difference between MSU's department that talks about wanting to the the best yet always winds up acting and following through as 2nd rate has been and still is clearly noticably different to Michgan's Athletic Department that talks/act/plans as a 1st rate program.

I just so want Rich Rod to unleash Denard, drop 1000 yards of total offense, 77 points and come into the press conference after the game and simply state, "Now that we have completed the easy portion of our schedule, we can start focusing on the real competiton in the balance of the season."
