Source is revealed about Burke leaving after FR year
Jeff Goodman has finally revealed his source about who told him that Trey Burke was declaring for the draft after his freshman year.

Don't worry, that wasn't written by Duffy or JMac. Jason Lisk did a solid interview.
If you don't want to read, Goodman says that Burke texted him and told him he was leaving, but his dad and Beilein convinced him to stay.

I think Burke made a wise decision in the end

Not even a DNP last night

The other 14 guys are in Twolves jerseys. No minutes yet. Also, listed as guard/forward. Is his skill set anything close to a guard's?

Not really, but he is an NBA wing. The thought of GR3 playing some 2 is much more imaginable than playing the 4 with responsibility of guarding the Blake Griffin's of the world and rebounding consistently. Obviously he's a 3 first and foremost, but these days the perimeter is much more properly delineated as point guards, combo guards, wings, and stretch forwards than the traditional positions anyway.

It looks like GR3 is on the roster but has not been active for any games yet. I beleive you can have 15 players on your active roster, but I think you can only dress 12.
The league is a humbling place. I bet GR3 has never not been good enough to start for any team he has ever played on. Now he is fighting to get on the bench.

Rumor is that the T-Wolves are trying to trade Budinger, which might open up some minutes for GRIII. They cut JJ Berea so they could keep GRIII, but with Rubio on the shelf, they are looking for a PG. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for GRIII.

Budinger never plays either. Yes, they are looking to get rid of Budinger so they can sign another point guard to fill in. Rubio will be out awhile. Levin is forced to play a lot of point. He isn't ready for that.

but having Budinger leave plus the inevitable injuries that occur over a long NBA season might allow GRIII to play at least some. Realistically, it's pretty rare that a rookie 2nd round pick plays much. It wouldn't surprise me if he did get sent to the D League.

Good information, thanks for posting.
But I get hives when the media interviews the media.

I do too, but I generally read what Lisk writes. I have to assume he is being paid relatively large amounts of money to work at that shit website, because he seems like a truly talented writer.

Because our football team sucks and there's a thread about Burke:

I couldn't hear jack-shit when I was watching this game in Appleton, WI, of all places - does the announcer say "Tyus (or Tyrus) for three!" here?

Sam Webb has said as much for years now. Burke had already left before changing his mind, a picture of his room all packed up circulated on social media at the time, it was real. Trey made the right choice.
November 13th, 2014 at 4:13 PM ^
Yes, but Sam wasn't the one who broke the story. The person who broke it took a lot of shit for "getting it wrong", but he is now saying that his source was Trey himself.
November 13th, 2014 at 4:17 PM ^
Well, he should have known that Trey Burke is not a reliable source for information on Trey Burke. He should have checked message boards and FlightAware like the rest of us.
November 13th, 2014 at 3:12 PM ^
Trey made the right choice, but he better start knocking down shots or Exum's going to start taking his minutes.

Duffy is such a worm.

Goodman pretty much protects Izzo from himself by this practice:
November 13th, 2014 at 6:33 PM ^
He's protecting his access.

tends to say sources instead of who's their contact because they would lose contacts if they reveal who they are. People change minds all the time and it happens. Jeff Goodman wasn't wrong when he broke the story on Trey. People tend to see it in black and white but in reality, it's so much in the gray area because we're relying on the human to make decision.
Also, if the source is revealed, the person could be potentially fired from their job.
November 13th, 2014 at 5:07 PM ^
Absolutely correct. It's the backbone of allowing a free press.
However, I reserve the right to call bullshit on most stories using "unnamed sources." Mostly because I don't trust most of the hacks that are still trying to call themselves journalists.
November 13th, 2014 at 5:25 PM ^
I don't understand why Burke would even text him that to begin with. Why spoil his own press conference?
November 13th, 2014 at 6:18 PM ^
Maybe because not everyone cares about a surprise "pick a hat" moment?
November 13th, 2014 at 6:36 PM ^
Just seems odd to me "Wait! I gotta text my good buddy Jeff Goodman!"
