Really thought he would stay one more year, but the best of luck to him in the pros!

Edit: Jake Fischer is a Boston Globe correspondent and a writer for Slam Magazine.  Seems legit.

Is there a good reason as to why this guy would have the scoop? When random writers from areas that aren't associated with people I worry about Voracity.

Would the guy working in Boston know anything about the kid from Indiana who played in Michigan? Does this writer have an in with family/localities? Or is he ESPNing some sources?

(All pretty rhetorical questions. If he does leave, best of luck to GRIII)

EDIT: someone above notes that the guy writes for SLAM, so he may be in the know

Good luck to him. Can't help but feel like he underachieved a little bit (especially compared with the growth of most Michigan guards/wings from freshman to sophomore year), but I wish him all the best.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.  I've always thought that realistically only 2 of the 3 could come back anyway; there just aren't enough minutes for everyone on the team if they all came back.

Maybe Glenn is leaving because Nik decided to return, and Glenn doesn't want to man the 4 this year?  Silver lining?

Personally I think this is a bad move for him, but I also thought the same thing with THJ

Fact is, no one is truly NBA ready (maybe Lebron?) until they get up to the league, log some practice time with the big boys, work on the holes in their game that can only be fixed by playing top competition, etc.

GRIII is going to be fine. Wish he had come back, but he's an NBA player. Might be a rough adjustment in year 1, but by year 3 or so, I bet he's rolling.

why do people act like THJ is tearing it up? He's scored 10 ppg shooting 43% from the field, 35% from 3, while doing nothing else, and for a bad team.  Is he doing more than I expected he would, yes, but people talk like he's killing it.

Because he is establishing himself as a long-term rotation player in the NBA with legit scoring touch a portfolio that already includes several special games.

It's not like he was, at any time in his career, ever expected to be a superstar. Most guys that are "NBA ready" aren't the next Lebron James; they're guys who people expect to be able to contribute to a team. And the fact is that not all of them work out--even the high draft picks. Look at the first overall pick for a good example of that.

He is doing quite well in the NBA because he has, in only his first season, proven that he belongs and that he has good things to offer to teams. This is significant. He'll get better, and he'll play in the NBA for quite a while. He is already close to meeting his perceived potential.

For a guy drafted 24th overall (after 10 other guards), the offensive performance this year looks pretty good.  There are holes in his game, but given the near uniform sentiment around here that he was making a big mistake/not ready when opting for the draft last year, he is certainly "killing it" relative to expectation.

Among qualifying NBA rookie guards...

PPG - 10.0 (ranked 4th)

Scoring per 48 mins - 21.0 (ranked 3rd)

FG% - .427 (ranked 4th)

3FG% - .353 (ranked 4th)

FT% - .828 (ranked 2nd)

you were undoubtedly one of those so certain he was D League bound.  He is getting meaningful time as a rookie with flashes of real upside.  I think people here have put his NBA contributions in proper perspective--(probably more so than on most other topics).

They put up multiple banners to a program that was banner-starved, and are now going pro. They'll likely be carrying the UM banner in the pros, and continuing the trend of pro-UMBB vibes.

They have done far more for the "program" than 99.9% of students that come to UM. Come on.

It's an awkward, British way to say that I've celebrated them with far too many drinks, but hey, remember I'm drunk!
Meaning of "pissed" in Britain

"for deserting the program"
Again, rembember I'm drunk. So I left off one of the two ESSes in "desserting". Thank you for the treats, guys.

"but also can't really blame them"
This drunk guy is also Captain Obvious. Surprise.

Does anyone else feel oddly content, for the first time in a long time, that with Coach Beilen, Michigan can slot the next person who will develop along their career?

Yes, I know losing GRIII is big (and there are major holes next year in the lineup), but man there is HOPE and a track record developing.

Was about to post the same thing.  If recent history is any indication, someone (possibly multiple someones) will step up and the program won't miss a beat even if all three are gone.

The dread I felt when Manny declared early (and again when D-Mo left) has been replaced with calm.

I fully expect LeVert, Irvin, Chatman, Donnal et al to be just as effective as this group and that's mainly because of John Beilein and Jon Sanderson.  Next man up really does seem to apply to M Hoops.
