Something needs to be done about the helmet stickers (pic)

Submitted by Maizen on

I'll admit that when coach Harbaugh announced the return of helmet stickers I was lukewarm about the idea because a) I grew up in an era where Michigan did not wear them and b) I prefer the clean and classic look of the winged helmet.

As the season has gone on they have grown on me a bit, however it's becoming clear (just take one look at Jabrill Peppers helmet) that the criteria for the stickers is either too lax or that the stickers themselves are too big. I mean this looks ridiculous and cluttered no?

Yes, I realize life is good when this is what we have to complain about, but can we get some smaller stickers next year so our beautiful helmets don't look so busy? I don't think that's too much to ask. Perhaps something like this (EDIT: for Firstbase's idea for helmet stickers)

I'm with OP here. Love the sticker design themselves, but they're either too big or too easy to accumulate. Make it tougher to receive them or change it to something small in the back of the helmet a la Georgia.

I think that once your helmet gets full there should be a sticker the normal size with 5 mini stickers inside of hit. But invert the colors so you can put blue stickers on the wings.

Look at it this way, we could still be under the leadership of Dave Brandon and Brady Hoke sporting NO helmet stickers. I'm going to go ahead and not give a shit about their size or presence.

When I first heard about Harbaugh bringing back helmet stickers, which I think are awesome, I had emailed an idea to the email address associated with Harbaugh's twitter account.  In it, I mentioned how my brother and I thought it'd be cool if they used the paw print of a wolverine something like the image below.  My reasoning was that the actual wolverine is not really visibile within the university and the block M has become the defacto "mascot" of the school.  The wolverine is a fierce animal and having a sticker that symbolized that would be cool.  I thought it was a decent enough idea, so I sent the email thinking that would be that.  WIthin the email, I also made it abundantly clear that I expected some lonely intern to be reading it.

A few weeks went by when I recieved this email:

Nick, thank you for the interest your brother and you have in Michigan Football and also your supporting the  decision to reinstate the helmet stickers. Appreciate very much your thoughts on the design,we are in process of gathering thoughts and again appreciate your input. Jim Harbaugh (I promise)

Attack this day with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.....

Anyway, thought it was a cool story and thought I'd share.

when it comes to comparing the issue to Chad Carr's horrible disease.  But c'mon man, take a breath before posting.  Very few things "really" matter in this sense.  Football doesn't matter.  But are we gonna close up MGoBlog?

All sincere wishes to that poor young child and his family and friends.

That is a real low brow move to bust the OP's chops about helmet stickers by comparing it to a young child with brain cancer. My condolences and prayers aren't enough for that family right now and it is something that I hope I never personally have to experience. But to throw that in the guy's face like he doesn't care about the Carr family by posting about helmet stickers is just poor form. I would hope that you have posted this comment in every thread started after the unfortuante one about Chad, then at least you would have some credibility. I neg you and I encourage others to do the same. Seriously man!? You are a real piece of work!

I'll admit I wasn't a fan of the sticker idea when it was first announced. I also grew up watching Michigan when they didn't wear helmet stickers. But now that the season is rolling I've warmed up to them. Hell, I like them a lot. I actually like them better than the small block Ms which I was a big fan of when someone first posted them here.

I'm not going to lose sleep over this, but you definitely have a point.  I'd prefer no stickers, but it's not my call.  I like the current stickers if they reduce the size.  I also don't like them going between the stripes.

Harbaugh is known to promote competition at all times and there's no doubt that the stickers are one of his many motivational tools.  But you can keep a running tab in the locker room without actually applying every damn sticker a player earns.  We'll be wrapping 'em around the facemask bars by OSU.

And while we're talking uniform-related aesthetics, I enjoyed the nostalgia of white pants on the road, but I'm all set.  You can bring back the maize now.

AWESOME! You people crack me up and are never happy. Everyone cried for the stickers to come back and bitched and complained until we get them, now that we have them people bitch about the amount and size as if you really have a say so in the matter. I'm sick of everyone complaining to complain. Fucking grow up already

Threads like these remind me that while we have our Michigan fandom in common, there's a lot of people out there who should keep their opinion to themselves. Coach wanted them, shut your mouth and support the team.

The wolverine football stickers look badass; yes they're too big, but I like that there are more competitive outlets to earn them. While the photoshopped skinny M's look clean AF, we could always just shrink the current ones. I'll trust Harbaugh's judgement going forward.

One thing that has grown on me, though, is all-white uniform. I thought I'd hate it, but it's neat looking.
