Softball Defeats Kent State in Home Opener, 2-0
So nobody posted this yet so I figured I'd go ahead.
Michigan softball had their home opener today against Kent State. Megan Betsa pitched a no hitter while setting a new personal single game record for strikeouts with 17!!!
Michigan's offense struggled today recording only 2 hits, both by 2nd baseman Faith Canfield. They scored their 2 runs in the 6th inning on an error and a passed ball.
They will continue their homestand on Sunday with 2 more games against Kent State at 12pm and 2pm.
Her 4th career no-hitter. Offense remains a problem. Gotta get going now. Scored one of two runs against a MAC team on a passed ball.
Yes, you would expect more than 2 hits against a MAC team. Offense needs to improve heading into conference play in a week. Pitching may have to carry the team as Betsa did today.
Only in the morning. It cleared up in the afternoon and was pretty sunny for a bit. Still cold though.

Kent State has given us problems before - I think it was 2 years ago they had an ace pitcher who beat us once & threw a hell of a scare into us a second time the same weekend. I wonder if they've got some maniacal pitching coach who's due for a promotion or something. In any event, glad to get the W - anything to build some momentum going into Big Ten play next week.
