So how much longer can this go on?

Submitted by macdaddy on

DB said he would work quickly but carefully and everything seems to point to having this business wrapped up by midweek. But what if it's not? I know Tressel wasn't locked up until Jan. 17 however at some point not having an actual, you know, head coach is going to irreparably damage recruiting and thus the whole program for maybe more than just next season. So what is the true, hard-deck bottom line date to have a coach? As a card-carrying MGoLunatic I want this to be over before we all asplode.

Wednesday!  I don't know why but I just have a feeling that DB is waiting until after the national championship game.  Get someone in line on Tuesday and make the announcement on Wednesday.

That seems to make perfect sense...therefore it probably won't happen.

Even though you're not claiming to be an insider, I just convinced myself you somehow know Dave Brandon's "super secret plan" and he's waiting till after the NC game to announce Guz Malzahn as the new HC

WTF does a restaurant chain CEO (not founder or owner) know about running a college althetic department/ being an AD?

Should the CEO of Appleby's become the next AD of USC or UF?

Disagree with how he's run this coaching search, fine. But I think you'd be hard pressed to find a more perfect candidate for AD. Played on the Football team while he was here. Ran 2 major corporations. Was a Regent at the University. Who the heck else would you like to be our Athletic Director?

OSU for Tressel - 15 days.  Miami for Golden - 15 days.  Florida for Muschamp - 3 days although you have to wonder if Meyer gave his AD a heads up that he was retiring.

I am guessing that DB had an inkling that this was coming although so likely did those other guys.  Could be 10 more days although I would think by next weekend is critical to try to have any recruits that still want to visit to come the weekend of 1/22.

I vote Wednesday at the latest.  It coincides perfectly with the Michigan v. tOSU basketball game.  Whoever it is, get's to emulate Tressell and gaurantee a victory in 320 days.

I sit next to a co-worker from Wisconsin and his parting words to me on Friday were "Here's hoping for Michigan to pick a coach this weekend...for the sake of your health."

Monday is the MNC game.  All news coverage for the day will be on the game.

Tuesday is obviously the day after the game and news coverage will be heavy on analyzing the game.  That's the 11th.  Coverage will still fall into the next day as well, the 12th.

In my opinion Michigan would have to make an impact selection (notably a Gruden type pick) and take all the attention away from the aftermath of the game to draw VERY positive coverage (read: excitement) of the football program.

The selection of Hoke, for example, will be met with a "yawn" by most of the media:  "In college football news, Michigan reached back within their football family to select Michigan Man, Brady Hoke, as their new football coach.  In other news...."

So hopefully something breaks big the next day or two or we might be looking at the 17th.
