So with 10 days left until NLOI Day, what are your predictions for Michigan?

Submitted by MinorforPresident on

It's getting down to the wire with only a week and half left until NLOI day. So who do you think ends up wearing the Maize & Blue that hasn't committed yet?
I am going to guess we take 5-6 more players and here's my guess (going out on a limb on a few):

Travante Stallworth
Je'Ron Stokes
Denard Robinson
Adrian Witty
Quentin Washington
Dale Peterman

- J.Stokes
- A.Witty
- A.Dantin
- B.Logan
- M.Hall
- T.Stallworth
And if we get lucky D.Robinson. But will never know till signing day

the rivals board is saying that Stokes and Witty have canceled their visits to PSU and Florida, respectively. If true I'd have to say bodes extremely well for us.

Aside from that my guess is we lose Graves, Hall goes to OSU and we pick up Quinton Washington.

Ya Stokes dropped PSU but picked up Illinois, But I like our chances with Stokes and Witty. Hall is saying we're number 1 still but ya never know what will happen. Signing day is just around the corner so will just have to wait and see what happens

Part of me tends to believe that he is just playing a joke on everyone even mentioning any other school only to drop tOSU decision on signing day. If he does come to Michigan I will be pleasantly surprised.

Well if it is a packaged deal with Witty and Robinson I guess that boils down to KSU and us, I kinda like our chances with that one Michigan vs Kansas State! I hope we can land them both, it would def help our competition at the QB spot.

By no means was I counting out KSU, just stating when it comes to tradition and Education it's hard to compete with Michigan nothing against KSU but it's true. Ya Freeman is a possible 1st round pick not to sure about who is on the roster at the QB spot but I guess will have to wait and see.

Brian - your info about Hopson "supposedly" staying is pretty big (and pretty good!) news. Interesting to find it buried in the middle of a board discussion....

Yes. He should definitely make a big announcement where he says "Things are going to remain the same." Just like when NASA calls a press conference to say "Earth is still the third planet from the Sun."

Hall has "dropped Michigan" and "OSU is 95%". If this is accurate, and he's saying this so soon after he declared Michigan a leader, I'd say it means he's a bit of a diva and a David Oku-style attention whore and he'll drop that LSU commit on us on NLOID because Lesticles likes his boys batshit insane, since they remind him of himself.

From what I've been hearing scanning the various Scout boards it's 50% OSU, 45% UM, and 5% Miami(that Miami).

Personally, I'm feeling an M commit, but I felt the same way about Pryor last year, and thus, no one should listen to me.

Losing him does not mean building your entire offense around the wrong type of quarterback and patching it together with gum, glue, and a little hope.

It's odd though; I have more faith in Michigan's offensive line coach than I do Ohio State's. This is not without reason: three seniors, one a four year starter, the others in their third and second years starting, played on last year's OL, yet Michigan threw out an assortment of career back-ups, walk-ons, underclassmen and converted D-linemen and looked only marginally worse. That spells trouble for us.

Personally, if I were Marcus, and thus not necessarily a dyed-in-the-wool Ohio State fan, I'd pick Michigan if I wanted to make it to the league. Two of those seniors off of last year's OSU offensive line are likely to go undrafted, and the best player on that line will be lucky to go on the first day.

[/needless rant]

Really? A true freshman could easily start at Michigan, where we have a 5th year senior (Ortmann) at LT, a two-year starter (Schilling) at RT, and a couple highly touted redshirt freshmen (Omameh, O'Neill)?

He could easily start at OSU, where they have Browning returning at RT and stud freshmen like Mike Adams and JB Shugarts returning?

Whichever school he chooses, he's probably not going to play at all next year.

Browning's job is up for grabs. He earned the nickname "The Matador" this year for his play against Aaron Maybin, Brian Orakpo et al and whoever the hell plays DE for Ohio, Northwestern and Purdue. He needs a lot of work; Tressel may believe the best way for him to get better is for him to keep on getting housed, but if the OL struggles early on next year as badly as it did through most of the season, I'd expect a few spots to open up.

The situation on the Ohio State OL is this: three seniors departed off of last year's line: Rehring, Boone, and Person. Michael Brewster stepped in at center after the USC game and immediately became the second best lineman. Rehring and Person alternated at RG later on in the year, so in truth, it could be said only two starters are lost on the line: Boone and the Rehring/Person two-headed beast. If things go as planned, Adams is your LT, Cordle is your LG, Brewster is your C, and your RG spot is utterly up for grabs. RT, as mentioned earlier, is also potentially open, with Shugarts as the probable back-up. RG, however, is questionable. Connor Smith and Andrew Miller (aka the third-string tight end) both saw mop-up duty at RG, and both were rather pedestrian. Marcus Hall could conceivably start over both, especially if the line struggles early on again. Tressel showed willingness last year to make changes on the OL - he basically benched Rehring after the USC game for a few weeks, moved Cordle to LG and put in a true freshman at center. It could be done again for Marcus Hall.

Which is the long way of saying "OSU probably won't make a habit of starting true freshman linemen and he'd be buried on the depth chart at Michigan, so his chances of starting next year for either team or pretty slim unless a few people get hurt."

"Earning" that nickname versus 2 1st round draft picks is a tough way to lose a spot, especially to a true freshman. Not saying his job is secure, but it reminds me of an old FarSide cartoon I had as a teenager. It was a Jeopardy game where 2 of the contestants were Einstein and Ben Franklin (IIRC) where they both had outrageous scores, and the third was this doofus who had 0. Short story long, the caption read along the lines of "not that it would matter much, but I don't think my buzzer is working".

was that Browning (and Boone, to be honest) got torched by Orakpo and Maybin, like most other OTs did, but Borwning also got beat by ends from Purdue, Ohio, Youngstown State, etc. He was noticeably inconsistent, but not the worst on the line. These are merely his faults in pass protection; he was anything but reliable when attempting the good ol' Ohio State off-tackle right.

Again, given the way Tressel shuffled the line this year, I would not be surprised to see him do it again next year. And I love(d) the Far Side, just so you know.

I just hate seeing these guys get branded for poor performances against elite talent, when they are clearly out-classed. My fanbase (myself included) is as guilty as any. Not to go all Jerry MaGuire mission statement, but we forget that this isn't the NFL. Sometimes we forget that these kids are playing with their hearts. Quan and Show Me the Money be damned......You know? Just run to the Buick. Got 2 football references in 1.

Good analysis of OSU's line next year, but you forgot about Boren. He, presumably, has not gotten worse over the past year, and can play any of the 3 interior spots.

So um, yeah, Marcus Hall probably won't start next year.

yeah the hopson thing i read a while back that if he wasnt going to become the DC that he was going to give RR one more year out of respect. as for the final recruits. i'd say we lose one out of Graves/Jones. we pick up stallworth, stokes, montgomery, ferrell, witty and robinson. I would agree and think that if it were down to us and KState we should have the advantage, but i've seen too much this year with guys choosing tulsa and central florida over michigan that you absoluty cant count them out.
