Snowflakes Thread: Offense Vs. Cincinnati

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

This will be the snowflake thread for the thoughts on our offense in the game versus Cincinnati.

this team depends on the QB -- and Speight just hasn't delivered high-level performances over the last 5 games. Some tough Ds in OSU/FSU/UF, but today it was a weak opponent. He just isn't able to really manage the game or takeover a game.

Is Drevno really the best we can do?  Is he really at Don Brown's level?

Harbaugh got Brown by finding the absolute best D coordinator that was out there, and reeling him in to Ann Arbor.

If he took that same approach on offense, does anyone really think he would have come up with Drevno?

it's a three headed monster calling plays: Harbaugh, Drevno and Pep.  Don't think you can complain about one and not all of them.

Plus, why are we concerned about the playcalling against Cincinnati? We should be able to tell them exactly what we're running and still dominate them.

Speight missed some easy throws and our O line is pretty bad right now.  Not much you can do with play calling to cover that up, and this is a game in which you don't even want to show better teams how you will attempt to cover it up.

I don't understand how so many schools can recruit so much mediocrity and put out a decent offensive line and qb and we can't put out anything but this garbage.

He was absolutely horrific.  If they had a decent QB, it would have been a lot closer.  He missed so many wide open receivers (and I feel bad because the one deep ball he hit, the guy dropped it).

He missed a bunch of open slants, a ton of open deep balls.  He was 15/40 for 133 yards!! That's 3.3 yards per pass.  Plus, he threw two pick 6s.  If you think that's decent, but are complaining about our QB, I just don't know what to tell you.

Everyone seemed sluggish after our first score. Put it on auto pilot and threw way too damn much but I believe there has to be a greater plan in all this. Maybe we felt so comfortable we could run all over them that they wanted to test Speight.

Perry and Isaac game balls but Isaac had a run he could've broken wide open where he ran into his own blocker on the sweep. Have to stop doing that.

Speight was even late and behind Crawford on a HAND OFF. He cannot get the ball to Crawford on time, anytime. Speight sucks. plain and simple.

That was bad. I have been a pretty big Speight supporter but today was just awful.  I'm not sure if it is because he has new receivers or something else.  We have O-line issues as well.  Seems like we will be a couple pieces short from being able to compete with elite teams.  I think we are overrated but dangerous as hell.  The D is going to be good all year.  We will get better and give a lot of people problems all year even if we aren't pretty all the time.

Offensive line looked soft. If you can't dominate Cincinatti for 60mins what do you expect in the Big 10? Multiple plays stopped behing the line. I thought Issac looked pretty good...but where is Evans? Higdon? we showed 0 speed today.  Don't even get me started on Speight. I am firmly in the Harbaugh knows best camp. He will play the best player...but if thats the best we have at QB....we are in trouble. I know this is for the coaching thread but our play calling, and time management for offense was terrible.

If he is the best we have, that makes me bummed looking foward. Speight is reminiscent of ryan mallet his freshman year. timing off and balls sailing high! smh

Speight still tends to throw too high on medium passes and late on long passes.

Isaac has been impressive.

R side of O-line still needs to be ironed out.

17/29, 221 yards, 2 TDs, 0 Int, 145 Passer Rating.

Accurate on his deep shots. One truly bad throw. Having a ball slip is not a mortal sin; don't know who the handoff fumble should be blamed on.

Very odd play calling. We should be getting receivers open against a Cincinatti that is stacking the box -- I can remember only one clearly open pass he missed. To DPJ. Why have superior athetes in every department. Nothing to get them in space. No screen passes to running backs. No wide receiver screens to DPJ, Mcdoom, etc (we had one to Perry late). No fade routes to our giant flex TEs and athletic WRs. Speights been very accurate on deep passes, why not call more?

Speight didn't have a great game, but it was fine, and should have been better with better play calling.

No discipline, kept letting Wilton throw when the run was working.

Ulizio needs coached up and fast if we wanna stand a chance against Penn State.

Speight at this point is what he is. He can make clutch throws here and there and also risk killing momentum with his consistently sailing passes. He was very lucky not to be picked off a few times this game. He was also fortunate Perry reeled in another of his high throws on that TD. I don't have confidence he can win us games in a pinch.

Isaac has really come on. Turning into a bounce out monster. But what happened to Evans? Injury?

Noticed one play in the fourth quarter where Bredeson had one guy to block right in front of him, and for some reason ignored him to go block thin air. If he made that block it would've been another big run for Isaac.

First half very much felt like UConn and Akron in 2013. But unlike Hoke, Harbaugh doesn't need a last second stop to win and wins by 3 TDs.

Least satisfying 3 TD win I've ever watched, but a 3 TD win none the less.

I'll chalk it up to a hangover after a big prime time win over a ranked opponent.

I'll worry if they replicate this overall effort against Air Force though.

I think people are overreacting a little. I think the jury is still out. The offense has not gelled yet, and the frosh receivers are not getting open. Things will get better I think. God I hope so.

This team is a 4 loss team. If WS is the best we have....What does that say about our QB guru of a coach?

I hope the offense closed down Ricks last night, and we're blankly hungover this afternoon!!!

Chris Evans looks less explosive and less dynamic this year. Anyone else feel this way? Good thing Isaac has taken a step forward. Perry has also progressed this year; he looks faster and more athletic overall.

This was an extremely ugly game. It was not very enjoyable to watch. Hopefully this performance will motivate the team to make adjustments and improve as they move forward.

After two games, it seems like Speight has regressed. He definitely played better last year. I don't remember him missing this many short and intermediate throws. Maybe he focused too much attention on the deep ball over the offseason and ended up ignoring other aspects of his game. I don't know....
