Snowflake Thread: Coaching

Submitted by Black Socks on

Up 7 to uber conservative offense - to delay of game - to punt - to horrendous pooch - to allowing three consecutive bombs.  I am a sunshine blower but that is the worst game management I've ever seen.

...question whether PSU has the superior coaching staff?  I'm pretty sick as I write this, but I am so tired of this.  Where was the TO when they had a 45 yard field goal to win the game?  Where was the TO on the last third down?  How do you not blitz Hackenburg more?  Did Borges notice that the first 76 handoffs to Fitz didn't work?

No.  Hoke MIGHT be the best recruiter in the B1G, but BOB and Urban are much better coaches and they'll get ~= talent.  BOB might be a better recruiter given what he's dealt with at Penn St, and he's clearly the best coach in the conference.  If he stays, we're in 3rd place consistently in the East.

How about the decision to put Stribling on Allen fucking Robinson with no safety help on PSU's last drive of regulation? How about not burning any more goddamn downs on power running? Philosophy be damned, these coaches need to run the plays the team is best at running: options and inverted veers. I'm sick of this shit. And what in God's name is the team doing getting a delay of game penalty to move out of field goal range and then pooch punting it into the end zone?

NE looked very physical, they are going to come in the big house and hand us our  lunch. MSU will kill us and OSU will win with ease. NU will have no problem scoring lots of points. Heck, I can see IA beating us. Big chance we may only beat IU at home.

You play to win the game!!!!( Herm Edwards) Did not play to win the game. Oh lets run, kneel, pussy foot around, then punt the ball. It could have at least been a pooch, not lets punit it into the endzone, then let them go 80 yards in 23 seconds. Unreal. don't even care about OT. Had the game won in Regulation,.spotted them 21 points tonight. Effin A cotton.

This one hurts, but our luck finally ran out.

Most everyone will criticize Borges or Gibbons but our pass defense ( LBs and DBS) lost this game. Much like SC and OSU and many other games. That continues to rest on Mattisons shoulders.

The offense was poorly prepared again. Too much confusion and rattled throughout the game. Gardner came on strong but no one else. Not just play calling, there is too much talent not to be seeing more consistency. OL coaching is poor, RB coaching poor-backs stop before they hit line on most carries.

In the end though when we are this close players have to make plays and ours did not. PSUs freshman and seniors made plays, ours did not.

Yeah I put this almost entirely on the coaches. Yes, players have to execute (and there were definite missses) but the coaches have to make the right calls to put us in the best position to win the game.

If any one of the following occurs, we win 1. Call a timeout and kick a 47 yarder 2. Get the punt to land not in the endzone 3. Play any semblance of D on the game-tying TD 4. Make the 52 yarder(not expected but still would've won it 5. Play aggresdivly and go FORWARD for field position instead of two neg plays and a centering play 6. Make the fieldgoal 7. Give us the first down that Gallon actually earned 8. Make the fieldgoal 9. Stop on 4th down

#8   I was really pissed of at first, then I realized that it would've been three consecutive runs for -1yard each and the FG try would have been even longer.

4a Don't burn your last TO after coming out of a fucking challenge time out. We could have ran one more play to make it a more manageable FG.

Brian Hedger ‏@BrianHedger 55s Michigan lost to the school that lost to Indiana by 20, nearly lost to Akron and paid $6,800 to skywrite "Go Blue" over Spartan Stadium. OK

coaching was crappy! Poor game plan by both coordinators. Where is the improvement? The staff keeps preaching technique and fundamentals but there is no improvement...NONE!

...and by team effort, I mean coaches and players alike.

For those of you who want to solely blame the coaches, U-M players choked on nearly every key play down the stretch:

  • QB not getting plays off in time
  • Punter kicking the ball into the endzone
  • DBs not timing their leaps properly and not not knocking down Hackenberg's moonballls
  • Missed blocking assignments on FG attempt
  • K gets one blocked and misses two others.
  • D can't make a stop on 4th and 1 with game on the line.

You can blame the coaches all you want, but players were in position to make plays and they couldn't get it done.  Like I said, total team effort.

Is that he was super conservative, but given the likelihood of out O line not blocking anyone and Gardner throwing it to the other team, what does he do?

Who thinks Gibbons misses 3 in the game? Sure, Borhess was a puss, but it's not his fault.

I have complete confidence that our run of form will continue. We're actually trying to play this way, to a degree. The playcalling seems to completely ignore the strengths and weaknesses of our players on offense. I'm at a loss to explain why we pay someone millions of dollars a year for derptastic gameplans week in and week out.

We may beat Indiana at home. NE looked good going into W.Lafayette and killing Purdue! I'm sure they will win with east. Iowa cold be a close game toss up but I'm sure this coaching staff will find some way to lose. Unfortunately next season looks even worse with both our NFL bound tackles leaving. I don't think we will much improvement. We are at least 3 to 4 years from being good.

1)Lots of coaches would go conservative like that at the end of regulation 2) the coaches didn't screw up the pooch punt 3) On the last bomb three wolverines were in the area - coaches can't make the play - it was afantastic throw and catch.
