I know it's cool to hate Rutgers, but Michigan is certainly recruiting a lot better in NJ than they were before Rutgers was accepted into the Big Ten.
February 2nd, 2016 at 12:57 PM ^
Maybe that's because of Harbaugh and Partridge and not so much Rutgers?
February 2nd, 2016 at 1:01 PM ^
Haven't you heard? Rutgers is going to Hashtag Build a Fence.
February 2nd, 2016 at 1:20 PM ^
Not worth having that garbage program in the conference. Harbuagh is going to put together good classes as long as he keeps winning. I don't really worry too much about where they are from.

They'll have to be willing to kiss Texas on the rear..
February 2nd, 2016 at 12:47 PM ^
Add SMU and and Houston. Then try to find a buddy or two for WV who is kind of all alone.

You're right. Unless they're trying to add to their footprint, solidifying Texas by adding Houston makes sense. SMU too if they need balance though they really bring nothing to the table after Larry Brown gets their sort of resurgent basketball program bombed by the NCAA.
Perhaps they think they can get some kind of foothold in Florida and add SFU and CFU but if a tree falls in a forest and no one hears it because they're too busy cheering for Miami, Florida and Florida State.........
February 2nd, 2016 at 2:33 PM ^
Texas is already getting killed in recruiting by TCU, A&M, and Houston even though Houston isn't in the Big12 yet. No way Texas allows another school from Texas.
February 2nd, 2016 at 12:59 PM ^
Yeah, that would be great! Then Texas could become selfish and blow the conference apart....wait...learn from history something or other.
February 2nd, 2016 at 12:48 PM ^
BYU won't embarass you in the major sports and Houston is a major source of talent. It would definitely help their basketball program keep some talent home.
February 2nd, 2016 at 12:52 PM ^
until they get over their issues with refusing to play on Sundays.
February 2nd, 2016 at 1:58 PM ^
I doubt BYU gives up not playing on Sundays and they aren't nearly important enough to get Texas and Oklahoma to bend over for them
February 2nd, 2016 at 12:53 PM ^
February 2nd, 2016 at 1:12 PM ^
I think it's much closer to fact than talk that BYU won't play sports on Sundays. It's due to their religon.
When BYU makes the NCAA tourney in bball, they are always placed in the Thurs/Sat slots.
February 2nd, 2016 at 1:41 PM ^
February 2nd, 2016 at 2:11 PM ^
That obviously works for basketball, but are there NO sports with national tournament contests that stretch into sunday for the entirety of the field? I feel like they must run into a problem at least occasionally that no amount of schedule flexibility can fix.
February 2nd, 2016 at 12:53 PM ^
BYU won't embarass you unless they're punching people in the jimmy.
February 2nd, 2016 at 12:57 PM ^
Not playing on Sundays would present scheduling issues in some sports. I think Cincinnati is the most obvious target. Adds a new market and could open up a fertile new recruiting area. Adding them and Houston won't dilute their strength in either major sport.

Be careful what you wish for. It may hurt Ohio State a little, but I think it would hurt us as well. Despite not having any recruits in Ohio this year, it has been an area historically that Michigan has recruited hard.
I don't think it would have the same effect as Texas A&M opening up Texas for the SEC, but I don't think you want to open up the Midwest to another conference. Iowa St, West Virginia, & Cincinnati would give the Big 12 a presence in the Midwest even if they are the last 3 schools that would get taken if there were a draft of schools from the Midwest.
February 2nd, 2016 at 1:20 PM ^
The only caveat being that it would probably hurt MSU the most of anyone. I don't think it impacts OSU, unless they experience a down period like Texas is in now.
February 2nd, 2016 at 2:03 PM ^
Ohio State laughs at Cinci being any serious competition and Michigan would chuckle at them as well. MSU however really values getting those 3*-4* tweener guys from Ohio and Indiana. Having Cinci step it out a notch will put them in direction competition.
February 2nd, 2016 at 12:49 PM ^
I would recommend merging with the Mid-American Conference and making a West and East Division. The final version would be known as The Big MAC.

The thing you were hoping to get posted is precisely why newbies can't post. Signing day is tomorrow and you're posting things about a team that no one on this board but MGrowOld cares about. And even MGrow can't give two fucks about Manziel right now.

Hey, I'm just saying. Had you posted that, you would've received a zillion downvotes and a removal by mods. Plus, I mean, I sympathize, but being a Browns fan is really your cross to bear. Between the Browns and the Lions...too much pain.

If they want 2: Houston and BYU.
If they want 4: Houston, SMU, Boise, BYU.
Let WVU's athletic department go bankrupt for their idiotic decision to make their non-revenue sports play games 1000+ miles away every week.
February 2nd, 2016 at 1:02 PM ^
Way better academics, slightly better football, crosstown rivalry with UH and a ton of Big 12 grads in Houston.
February 2nd, 2016 at 1:13 PM ^
They get $25M in tv revenue rather than <$2M if they stayed put. Plus they would still have to travel to Houston, SMU, Tulane, Tulsa, USF and UCF. They would have preferred the SEC, but were rejected. No chance for the Big Ten or ACC.
February 2nd, 2016 at 1:27 PM ^
If they expand, I think it is to expand their footprint for TV and recruiting. I don't see any benefit to adding Houston or SMU as it just upgrades 2 more schools in the Texas recruiting pool.

even with Richrod bumbling his way around Michigan still recruited Michigan and Ohio fairly well. Kids in Texas grow up on the Longhorns. I'd be very concerned if I was UT fan watching TCU, Baylor, and Houston beat us on the recruiting trail
February 2nd, 2016 at 12:54 PM ^
Can the Big 10 (12) pay the Big 12 (10) to take Rutgers??
Then let's add Virginia and call it a day.
February 2nd, 2016 at 1:04 PM ^

...
Well, The Victors, the judges will accept that answer. They would also accept the Big 12 taking Rutgers and the B1G getting Texas.
February 2nd, 2016 at 1:31 PM ^
The ACC has a Grant of Rights in place.
So Virginia can go to the Big Ten all they want, but the ACC gets to keep their B1G TV money share. How likely would you expect that to happen?
February 2nd, 2016 at 12:54 PM ^
Rutgers would be a good option, especially now that we've plundered all their recruits
