3 hot takes:
This team is closer to 8-4 than 11-1.
This defense isn’t as good as advertised.
Harbaugh is over paid.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:45 PM ^
all Three are reasonable takes imho
September 15th, 2018 at 7:52 PM ^
Wowzers. coming from some other posters, those would be hot. Coming from you, those are nuclear.
September 15th, 2018 at 8:33 PM ^
People may want to keep in mind that umbig11 is an insider that provides great information, but he’s not a guru. I don’t think his frustrated hot takes hold any more water than the rest of us.
September 15th, 2018 at 8:46 PM ^
I kind of feel like they do, though.
September 15th, 2018 at 8:56 PM ^
Fair point, but if you think we are going to beat MSU, PSU, OSU, and slide by a couple of others I will take that bet. We may beat 1 of those 3. We are lucky to have Shea or things could be worse. I am accounting for the injuries too. They are starting to pile up early in the season. We need to get better safety play in a hurry.
September 15th, 2018 at 9:20 PM ^
Completely agree.
I just do not understand the offensive philosophy of Harbaugh. Either it requires a line we do NOT have, or is outdated and/or Harbaugh is too stubborn to adapt or simply cant, or its just plain boring and I'm just too stupid to understand high level football, seems there is something missing.
I'm watching this TCU / OSU game and the offenses seems creative. Potential for explosive plays. Outside of deep to DPJ, is there really any hope for Michigan's offense?
September 16th, 2018 at 8:59 AM ^
Iva asked this before: when was the last game in which we out coached the opponent? I would say we just got outcoached by SMU even though we won. We should’ve won this easily, but SMU came in and took it to us. I’m talking about preparation, game plan, getting the best out of each player, etc...
September 16th, 2018 at 9:56 AM ^
The last game vs OSU, even though we lost because we didn't have a functional QB.
September 16th, 2018 at 3:29 PM ^
Yep. Good point TIMMMAAY.
September 15th, 2018 at 9:40 PM ^
We beat MSU. I will easily bet you money on that and feel very confident.
September 15th, 2018 at 9:51 PM ^
You probably would have bet on it last year, too
September 15th, 2018 at 10:21 PM ^
Then I guess you haven’t watched us play MSU once in the last decade.
The MSU team you’ve seen so far is not, and I mean NOT the same MSU team that will play us in November. You’re going to see a much better MSU team when we come to East Lansing.
I've never understood where all this false confidence comes from against MSU every year. They play poorly in the first game or two of the season, we get overconfident and think this is finally when they take a permanent step back, and then boom, we get outcoached or just outmuscled and overall humiliated in yet another loss to them.
September 16th, 2018 at 12:45 AM ^
I for one hope MSU shows up to play us in November because I’m pretty sure that game is in October.
September 16th, 2018 at 8:47 AM ^
Let him go, he's on a role.
September 16th, 2018 at 9:18 AM ^
If you are gonna be snippy, at least learn how to spell roll....
September 16th, 2018 at 7:20 PM ^
In your fan opinion do you believe Harbaugh can recognize if he needs major offensive coaching help or is there enough stubbornness to think he can handle it on his own?
September 15th, 2018 at 9:42 PM ^
Yes, much closer to 8-4, as in, will probably BE 8-4.
Winovich and Bush are the only impact players on defense. Other than that, we have a lot of overhype. Coaching included.
Way overpaid. We could pay someone a lot less to go 9-3/8-4 and lose to OSU every year. I would be very surprised now if he is ever an elite coach for us. The only question now is whether he lasts 5 years or six.
September 16th, 2018 at 7:17 PM ^
Every single other person on this blog would be called a troll and negged to hell for saying this. I hope someday negative and positive opinions can be rationally debated on here. Maybe we can start that now?
September 15th, 2018 at 7:53 PM ^
He needs to steal the pick play SMU used for one of their TDs.
September 15th, 2018 at 8:47 PM ^
And the counter toss they ran on 3rd and short. Much better than watching Evan's run into the line for no gain again.
September 16th, 2018 at 7:55 PM ^
This has been a gripe for a while with me. Pick plays are part of nearly every team's passing attack. They are very effective and rarely get called as offensive interference. We are either so bad at them that I can't tell we run them or we just don't have them installed.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:54 PM ^
I'm with you.
I hate to be the kind of fan who complains after a victory, let alone a double-digit one. But this offense is . . . offensive. The play-calling is abyssmal, and gives the over-matched O-line no chance.
Shea Patterson threw only 18 passes today, against a defense that was selling out against the run, policed by referees who were calling PI whenever a DB breathed on a receiver. What a stupid game plan.
September 15th, 2018 at 8:50 PM ^
Harbaugh is very much a "jam a square peg into a round hole" type of coach.
September 15th, 2018 at 9:54 PM ^
Playcalling doesn't matter, just ask Space Coyote
September 15th, 2018 at 10:08 PM ^
Plays only don't work when you do not execute even if it's a bad play call apparently
September 15th, 2018 at 9:07 PM ^
This is only half correct.
Offense is not as productive as it should be, given the overall roster plus Patterson being generally excellent so far.
But Nebraska won't be much of a test. Nebraska D is terrible right now.
September 15th, 2018 at 9:46 PM ^
If Martinez is back, nebraska is a big problem. If higdon out and Evans out, and Hudson out first half, look out, going to be a handful. I don't understand how anyone is still taking any game for granted.
September 16th, 2018 at 12:39 AM ^
Wonder if Brian and his cronies are still gonna hate on Lloyd ball and DeBord.... I much prefer their offense, to this recent one so far... be careful what you wish for, in spades...
Did we run any screens or counter runs? I think no to the first, and none to the latter, and instead ran a ton of draws into a wall....
September 16th, 2018 at 10:45 AM ^
This game reminded me a lot of Lloyd and DeBored, actually. The offensive those two should have been running the entire time only came into play for the bowl game against Florida and it was a god damn thing of beauty....and we've been asking for some version of it ever since and gotten only glimpses of it.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:27 PM ^
People will say "Why would you get upset about a 25 point win over SMU?". Well count me in as one of those people that are upset with a 25 point win over SMU.
Because OOC games like this are a barometer of where you stand going into Big ten play.
Do we even look like we are on track to beat Ohio State in Columbus? Or even Penn State and McSorely?
The barometer says big storm coming.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:33 PM ^
I’m not the concerned about coaching. In fact, when harbaugh choose to go for it on fourth, I thought that demonstrated his belief in his team. Shea is a gamer.
Big ten season starts next week. I expect more of the playbook to be implemented on offense. D got punched, but brown and co will adjust. Hoping we get Solomon back soon
September 15th, 2018 at 7:50 PM ^
Like the positive thinking but I disagree. We may well beat MSU (I think that’s the game they’re mostly focused on) but we’ll lose to PSU (air ball will Kill us and we get no pressure on QBs, just look at today), likely beat Wisconsin since Honibrook can throw and for sure lose to OSU - we have yet to stop a running qb that can throw. Unfortunately they now have what looks to be a really good QB.
This is is an 8-4 season. My hope is we actually do something in the bowl game and we HAVE to recruit better this year.
September 15th, 2018 at 8:14 PM ^
ND, PSU, and OSU are 3. Where's the 4th loss?
September 16th, 2018 at 12:08 AM ^
...notre dame?
September 15th, 2018 at 8:44 PM ^
Yeah, I’m trying to be positive. I just can’t imagine this program if harbaugh doesn’t work out.
September 15th, 2018 at 9:51 PM ^
Ryan day? Lol
September 15th, 2018 at 7:55 PM ^
I have yet to see us “open the playbook once the season begins.”
this offense is going to be boring but compared to last year, boring is a big improvement.
September 15th, 2018 at 11:51 PM ^
JH will not implement more of the playbook. This is his playbook. He hasn't "opened it up" since he's been here. Not sure why people think he will.
Brown will not adjust. He hasn't adjusted significantly since he's been here. Not sure why people think he will.
7-5. What a waste of our first damn good QB in a decade.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:28 PM ^
There are many in this "fanbase" who are an embarrassment. 25 point win and reading the threads you would think we lost by 25.
Keyboard coaches who were Pop Warner All Stars. Their High School coach fucked them and made them sit pine.
Sorry about the rant, but Jesus...
September 15th, 2018 at 7:34 PM ^
Breh it's SMU. We are supposed to win by a bunch of points. You don't notice the weaknesses of this team?
September 15th, 2018 at 7:43 PM ^
Last time I checked - they give scholarships too. Of course I see weakness on the team.
O line is sketchy (to be kind).
Playcalling was very vanilla.
Must stop the slant.
DBs need to adjust to how the refs call the physicality on coverage. (They didn't today.)
Weakness = opportunity to improve. Doesn't mean the sky is falling.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:37 PM ^
Um, we have slightly bigger goals than beating SMU. Glad you're all warm and happy though.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:47 PM ^
You have goals for this team? I didn't realize you were playing. What's your number and what position do you play?
Fans who say "we" about the team they follow always crack me up.
Do you watch games with a Michigan Jersey with YOUR name on the back???
I suspect you do.
September 15th, 2018 at 10:31 PM ^
You're a moron.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:38 PM ^
I need the Michigan staff to understand that THE problem is the offense. Stop running it when you have 10,000 weapons through the air and an accurately throwing, mobile QB. It's almost like Harbaugh is trying to impress Bo. Play YOUR game. 45? I'll take it. But this should have been 72-0.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:57 PM ^
Is your username a play on the three amigos?
September 15th, 2018 at 8:36 PM ^
Obviously the last name is. My "First" name is a play on my actual last name.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:48 PM ^
Play calling is again terrible. D is throwing the house at you and you don’t run screens? A high school coach could see that.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:59 PM ^
My mom doesn’t know a lot about football but even she said this team is in big trouble when we play osu or psu.
