Slippery Rock at the Big House (10/18) - Uniformz
As many of you know, and for those who do not, during our bye week, Slippery Rock will be playing a game in Ann Arbor.
For the game, they have decided to wear a new uniform. "We wanted to find a unique way to show appreciation for our gracious hosts at the University of Michigan," said Mihalik. "We thought that in order to respect the Wolverines' great rivalry with Michigan State, we wouldn't wear our traditional home green uniforms in their stadium."
Instead of wearing the traditional green that has become a staple of Rock football home games, Slippery Rock will wear a specially designed all gray uniform, from head to toe.
Slippery Rock is 5-1 heading into the game, suffering their first loss of the season this past weekend.
Anyone going to the game?

EXCEPT for the silly green "S" on the helmets! (sigh)
October 14th, 2014 at 10:48 AM ^
That's terrible. Let's boycott.
October 14th, 2014 at 11:01 AM ^
Think it will work?
October 14th, 2014 at 11:05 AM ^
We should not boycott. It would not be fair to the Rock players.
We should protest by wearing a different color to the game. Maybe something that will really make a statement like blue or yellow.

we wore something that isn't slippery...at all...like maybe...sand paper?
I'll show myself out...

Fire their AD!!
Who is he? Nobody knows?
Wait, it's not normal that everyone in the country knows who your AD is?
October 14th, 2014 at 11:57 AM ^
I think it's spelled Hire...

Those uniforms would be pretty nice except for the green striping on the sleeves ... adds a touch of "Christmas Elf" or something to the vibe.
October 14th, 2014 at 11:00 AM ^
they lost me at the sleeves also. Otherwise, they're pretty cool.
October 14th, 2014 at 11:33 AM ^
But only Christmas morning. Show up for lunch.
October 14th, 2014 at 11:35 AM ^
If they wore little pointed shoes with curly toes it would be complete.
October 14th, 2014 at 10:50 AM ^
I'll be there. M Den or anywhere selling Rock merch?
October 14th, 2014 at 11:07 AM ^
Moe's sells a Slippery Rock shirt in blue and maize that looks pretty cool.
October 14th, 2014 at 11:11 AM ^
gave you $$$ on the street corner last week for the Karate lessons so that you could get your family back from those ninjas, now you're gonna spend it at M Den??!
I should have known better, seeing you were at that corner next to the MDen tent...

There's the Uniformz
October 14th, 2014 at 11:03 AM ^
This is the final straw. Fire Adidas, Fire Brandon.
October 14th, 2014 at 11:06 AM ^
Will the event get the full MGoTreatment? Preview, Punt-Counterpunt, liveblog, recap, UFR?
Inquiring minds wish to know.
October 14th, 2014 at 11:12 AM ^
That actually would be kind of cool, but I figure Bryan and company could use a mental break during the bye. If Slippery Rock coverage is the way to give them a mental break, awesome. If they chose to relax in prep for MSU stuff then I can't blame them there either. I think the bye is a nice break for us all.

How's their coach? Should we make a CC thread for him?
October 14th, 2014 at 11:09 AM ^
If all of their punts and kickoffs have 11 men on the field, add him to the list.
October 14th, 2014 at 11:42 AM ^
And he will be removed from the coaching change list when he loses.

When the game is over, what do they do with the uniforms? Do they give them to the players as keepsakes? I don't have a problem with this for one game, but when you have a team like Oregon that wears a different uniform every week, there's a potential problem. Let's say you play 4 seasons at Oregon and end your career with 52 commemorative uniforms. What are you going to do with them? Sign them and sell them, right? Sure, it's after your career is done, but at $100 a pop, times 50 games, that's five grand, man. Shouldn't that be an impermissible benefit? Does anybody know the rules governing this?
P.S. the Rock bumblebee sleeves are awful.
October 14th, 2014 at 11:15 AM ^
that, if the Slippery Rock uniformz have any kind of patch on them about The Big House or Michigan Stadium, WD will be right on them!
October 14th, 2014 at 11:46 AM ^
I thought I read somewhere that they only get one, or one a year, or something. I don't think its a free for all.

I'm amazed that Oregon has different unis for every game. I understand this is just a giant marketing/advertising venue for Nike, but still, 105 unis * 6 home games + 60 unis * 6 road games = 1000 uniforms. That's like $50K (I expect their production costs are much less than what their sales price would be), so much less than one 30 second Super Bowl commercial. But they also have different helmets every game. Are they just painted over, or do they have different helmetz? Even if they are painted over, you still have to pay someone to do all that painting and applying stickers.
October 14th, 2014 at 11:16 AM ^
So everyone has to wear stripes when they are the home team in Michigan Stadium? The sleeves are a crime against my eyes.
October 14th, 2014 at 11:21 AM ^
they remind me of the pajamas my kid wore when he was five.

our distaste for all things Michigan State.
Win the game, Slippery Rock!
October 14th, 2014 at 11:40 AM ^
...they're not a part of the jersey, they're like a compression undershirt.
Having said that, they look like Sparty as Beetlejuice.
October 14th, 2014 at 12:02 PM ^
Will this be on national TV?

I feel sorry for the guys doing statistics. Those numbers will be very hard to read from the press box at the Big House. Someone thing of the SID!!
October 14th, 2014 at 12:34 PM ^
I'll be calling the stadium play-by-play and I'm already dreading it. Silver numerals on gray uniforms? Omigod.
October 14th, 2014 at 1:42 PM ^
recovered yet from the strain of trying to get the numbers right Saturday night? That had to be a tough job; even Brandstatter and Dierdorf were commenting on the radio about their difficulties reading those jersey #'s.
BTW, thanks for doing the great job you do each week---much appreciated!!

Here's the link to their complete gallery, including the players posing and modeling these a little bit... (LINK)
As others have noted, the sleeves on the compression shirt are "meh" but otherwise this is a pretty solid effort, I think. Nice to see them hyped enough to do special uniforms for this game actually - wasn't expecting that.

is UM's/adidas deal? When's it expire?

any predictions on the attendance? I say 40000

It's a good thing they're not playing at The Factory over at EMU. They wouldn't be able to wear these uniforms due to the recent rule change about uniforms not being allowed to match the color of the field.
October 14th, 2014 at 3:39 PM ^
Anybody know if this game will be on TV? I'd be curious to watch for a few minutes, if nothing else, just to see another team playing in the Big House and to see how big the crowd is.
October 14th, 2014 at 3:40 PM ^
I thought you couldn't have numbers match the jersey...it's going to be tough to see the aluminum foil from the stands.
October 14th, 2014 at 5:05 PM ^
So they are respecting M by changing the color of their jerseys from MSU colors to Ohio colors? Am I missing something here? It's like a backhanded compliment.
October 14th, 2014 at 5:06 PM ^
Slippery Rock's AD cares more about Michigan fans than DB does; sigh...
October 14th, 2014 at 5:10 PM ^
Speaking of DB, does anyone have a pic of the Fire Brandon banner from the Penn St. game? I haven't been able to find one...
October 14th, 2014 at 10:49 PM ^
we'll see it on the front page.
October 14th, 2014 at 5:33 PM ^
But what correlation does Slippery Rock have with Michigan. I've heard them mentioned several times. I just find it weird that a school from Pennsylvania is playing in A2. Thanks for the ensuing info.
