Slippery Rock at the Big House (10/18) - Uniformz

Submitted by nmumike on

As many of you know, and for those who do not, during our bye week, Slippery Rock will be playing a game in Ann Arbor.

For the game, they have decided to wear a new uniform. "We wanted to find a unique way to show appreciation for our gracious hosts at the University of Michigan," said Mihalik. "We thought that in order to respect the Wolverines' great rivalry with Michigan State, we wouldn't wear our traditional home green uniforms in their stadium."

Instead of wearing the traditional green that has become a staple of Rock football home games, Slippery Rock will wear a specially designed all gray uniform, from head to toe.

Slippery Rock is 5-1 heading into the game, suffering their first loss of the season this past weekend.

Anyone going to the game?

That actually would be kind of cool, but I figure Bryan and company could use a mental break during the bye. If Slippery Rock coverage is the way to give them a mental break, awesome. If they chose to relax in prep for MSU stuff then I can't blame them there either. I think the bye is a nice break for us all.

When the game is over, what do they do with the uniforms? Do they give them to the players as keepsakes? I don't have a problem with this for one game, but when you have a team like Oregon that wears a different uniform every week, there's a potential problem. Let's say you play 4 seasons at Oregon and end your career with 52 commemorative uniforms. What are you going to do with them? Sign them and sell them, right? Sure, it's after your career is done, but at $100 a pop, times 50 games, that's five grand, man. Shouldn't that be an impermissible benefit? Does anybody know the rules governing this?

P.S. the Rock bumblebee sleeves are awful.

I'm amazed that Oregon has different unis for every game. I understand this is just a giant marketing/advertising venue for Nike, but still, 105 unis * 6 home games + 60 unis * 6 road games = 1000 uniforms. That's like $50K (I expect their production costs are much less than what their sales price would be), so much less than one 30 second Super Bowl commercial. But they also have different helmets every game. Are they just painted over, or do they have different helmetz? Even if they are painted over, you still have to pay someone to do all that painting and applying stickers.

My five month old got a free ticket from the Go Blue Kids Club and I picked one up from Stubhub for $6. I'll find some free parking and we'll go for an hour, or however long he makes it. He did make it through the entire hockey game last week without incident, and actually watched the ice for 75% of the game. He also did great for the 3 hours at my UTL tailgate. He should be fine.

I feel sorry for the guys doing statistics. Those numbers will be very hard to read from the press box at the Big House. Someone thing of the SID!!

recovered yet from the strain of trying to get the numbers right Saturday night?  That had to be a tough job; even Brandstatter and Dierdorf were commenting on the radio about their difficulties reading those jersey #'s.

BTW, thanks for doing the great job you do each week---much appreciated!!

Here's the link to their complete gallery, including the players posing and modeling these a little bit... (LINK)

As others have noted, the sleeves on the compression shirt are "meh" but otherwise this is a pretty solid effort, I think. Nice to see them hyped enough to do special uniforms for this game actually - wasn't expecting that.

It's a good thing they're not playing at The Factory over at EMU. They wouldn't be able to wear these uniforms due to the recent rule change about uniforms not being allowed to match the color of the field.

Anybody know if this game will be on TV?  I'd be curious to watch for a few minutes, if nothing else, just to see another team playing in the Big House and to see how big the crowd is.

So they are respecting M by changing the color of their jerseys from MSU colors to Ohio colors?  Am I missing something here?  It's like a backhanded compliment.

But what correlation does Slippery Rock have with Michigan. I've heard them mentioned several times. I just find it weird that a school from Pennsylvania is playing in A2. Thanks for the ensuing info.
