Slightly OT - Big Ten Tournament

Submitted by WMUgoblue on

My friends and I were contemplating buying tickets for the big ten tourney, if anyone has gone I'd like to hear their experiences. Bar scene, parking, game day, anything I should know about Indy? I'd really like some MGoBoard input.

I'm from Indy have been to the the tourny the last few years. If you have a big ten student i.d. You'll get a big discount for all the games (I hope that's still the case).  I havent been a student in while and it worked for me last year. Those seats arent close to the court, but there is not a bad seat in Conseco. It's a very nice arena.  There is plenty of parking in Indy with lucas oil, circle center mall parking, and parking at Conseco (all very close).  Plenty of street parking if you dont mind a  little walk.  Good/chill bars on Massachusets Ave.  Great bar scene and night life in Broadripple, but that's not downtown. Maybe a 10 min cab ride from downtown. Its usually a bit of a younger crowd.  I'm a member of the Indy alumni chapter, but I havent seen any tailgaiting or group info yet, but I may have just missed it.

Hope this helps

No problem. Just because I forgot, there's a bunch of big bars in the heart downtown a block away from Conseco if you want to stay there.  There should be plenty of hotels downtown with cheaper options outside the immediate area.  For a smaller city, Indy never seems to be overrun or crowded even with big events.

downtown Indy is a far superior BTT venue to the United Center. It's really not a debatable point. Lots of restaurants, bars, nightclubs, plenty of hotel rooms, some interesting culture, all within 6 blocks of Conseco. If the tourney could be held in the Loop I'd agree with you, but as it is, Indy wins going away.

I'm going for the first time this year.  The tickets came with a pamphlet saying that the Michigan faithful will be gathering at O'Reilly's Irish Bar and Restaurant, 36 South Pennsylvania St, just up the street from Conseco Fieldhouse.  See you there!

I go every year. If you get a hotel downtown yoy can just park in a garage and walk to most anywhere you could need to go. You can just buy your tickets from scalpers on a session by session basis. There are plenty of bars and dining within a half mile of Consaco. From a comfort and viewing standpoint I prefer to sit in the club level.

I would agree that the best way to go is to buy tickets for single games/sessions from scalpers unless you want to see a buch of games.  Since Michigan is unlikely to make it far in tournament it is more economical than buying the entire package.  If Michigan does keep winning there are plenty of people trying to dump tickets after their team is knocked out.

I used to go in Chicago, and the fans of team knocked out early, particularly ones that were upset (lost in an upset, not feeling angry) would give away their later round tickets.   Thanks Indiana!
